National Trust to Prioritise “Embracing Traditions of Different Cultures”
The National Trust has quietly updated its values to prioritise “embracing the traditions of different cultures”, with the word “history” expunged in favour of the “stories of different histories”. The Telegraph has the story.
The charity amended its mission statement to remove numerous references to “history” in favour of the word “culture”, while several references to “countryside” were also stripped away.
Objectives of the National Trust now include “embracing the traditions of different cultures” and the “stories of different histories”.
The organisation said it wanted to harness “the ideas of a million minds. Alive. Open”, and referred to its charitable work as a “movement [that] reaches across time and place”.
It has made a video montage for internal use featuring shots of landscapes, stately homes redecorated for a Hindu festival, and tower blocks in east London. …
The video shows Hindus celebrating the spring festival of Holi at Corfe Castle in 2024, and a mural featuring the late poet Benjamin Zephaniah.
It stresses the sense of the Trust as a movement, and includes a fleeting image of a climate protest. Among the crowd is a woman holding a sign stating “capitalism kills”.
The voiceover adds: “What we can do together, we could never do alone.”
Cornelia Van der Poll, the co-founder of Restore Trust, a campaign group, said: “It seems that this is an attempt to attract ethnic minority visitors by incorporating their cultures into properties.
“This patronises visitors and risks misrepresenting the properties. It also seems counterproductive to treat people as belonging to separate identity groups.”
The update and the video follow a lobbying effort, led by the Trust, for the Government to tighten environmental protections.
The charity called on members to write to their MPs to pressure the Government to commit to a number of points including cleaning up waterways, and supporting farmers to help nature thrive.
Other demands include introducing more green spaces accessible to all neighbourhoods, and a push to end “unfair access to green space”.
Part of this includes cultural barriers that might prevent ethnic minorities from enjoying the outdoors, an issue recently addressed by Hilary McGrady, the National Trust director-general.
Speaking to LBC, she said: “They don’t necessarily know ‘what am I meant to wear, how do I behave? What’s a countryside code? I’ve never heard of it’. So there’s loads of different reasons why they don’t feel confident all the time.”

The same might be uttered by ‘townies’ the world over. Those that are interested, find out, talk to others with more experience. As I have having walked in rural areas across the world. Well, I’ve walked about in countryside places all over the world. And met many friendly helpful locals along the way. Those that want to, do. The others will be found by professional do gooders like Hilary McGrady and labelled as disadvantaged.

I saw a post on Farcebook the other day where a Muslim group had gone up into the countryside, I think the Peak District, and started having a barbecue, which is not allowed (fire risk and all that, and who knows if they nicked and ritually slaughtered a poor passing sheep for the barbecue) and the person who posted it who was a local national park ranger or similar incurred the wrath of the wokerati for mentioning that they were Muslim. Well they were clearly morons with no understanding of (a) rules that apply to everybody and (b) the countryside. If they feel uncomfortable in the countryside, then they should stay out of it and leave the rest of us in peace.
I think the park ranger needs to be disciplined and re-educated so that they are fully aware that the UK now runs a Two Tier justice system – with the full approval of the PM, El Starmeri – where only white native people are bound by these National Park rules.

More on the theme of bad behaviour. Has anybody seen these signs where you live about prohibiting pooing in public ( and they’re not referring to dogs, either )? Because I never ever saw such a thing. These sorts of things do not need taught to most people who are civilized and considerate to others, do they? I skate now and again on some sports courts in Finsbury Park, London, that are heavily used at certain times by the South American community for volleyball and parties – lots of them turn up with music and beer. With these charities that have now gone woke such as the English Channel Illegal Immigrant Taxi Service – operating in disguise as the RNLI – you can always write something abusive on their postage paid membership forms so it costs them money to be insulted.
I would visit a National Trust property in the belief that the admission fee stays with that property but would never become a member as your subscription is taken by the wokelings at Head Office.

For goodness sake! The job of the National Trust is to take care of our historical buildings and the contents thereof. Different cultures are nothing to do with our heritage, it’s our culture they should be concentrating on. Do other country’s equivalent of the National Trust concentrate on British Culture? Thought not!
It used to be said that when women reached middle age with time on their hands they turned to gardening or religion. Now it’s heritage organisations or refugee charities.
