Badenoch to Ban Diversity Quotas
Kemi Badenoch has promised to ban public bodies from using diversity quotas when hiring, saying there will be “no racial preferences” or “state-sponsored division” in the public sector. The Telegraph has more.
In a speech setting out how she would aim to promote integration, Badenoch said Britain has become “too tolerant of those weaponising identity politics for their own gain”.
She said her party’s approach would be “bold” and “brave” but strike the “right tone” to avoid fermenting division.
She said: “We will end identity politics in the state, full stop. No racial preferences. Protected characteristics will not be used as criteria for hiring, promotion, admissions, or procurement.“There will be no more state-sponsored division. From now on, every public body will act based on merit and competence, not grievance and quotas. It is about bringing people together around a common culture and a common identity.
“British culture exists. We live it. We benefit from it and we have a duty to defend it and pass it on.
“The answer to this is integration, but for integration to work people have to know they are integrating into a culture which is strong and self-confident.
”It does not work if Britain is a mess of competing cultures and it cannot work if we are not brave enough to say who we are and what we expect.“We will replace the promotion of multiculturalism in schools with a national story, one that is inclusive of the many people who have come to Britain, but without the grievance or the guilt which is corroding our cultural confidence.”
Badenoch claimed separatism was “most visible in some Muslim communities, with extremism its most violent expression,” but said the issue was also emerging elsewhere. …
She said her party would launch a commission to recommend an integration and cohesion plan that “sets out the culture that we want people to assimilate into, what we expect and what we will enforce”.
A commission will be established to assess how to overhaul the Equality Act “so it prioritises meritocracy and strengthens integration”, Badenoch said.

Too little, a decade too late mukka.
It was too late ever since Blair, although the ‘reveal’ took longer.
I agree a lot of damage has been done by diversity targets which prioritise gender, race, sexuality etc. over competence, but it’s never too late to start the pendulum swinging back to the middle.
It all sounded so reasonable until.. that.
Piss off with your commission and your committees to “set out the culture”.
You don’t need to “overhaul” the Equality Act. You need to get rid of it. Meritocracy will then flourish naturally.
Is it beyond the minds of these people to just not do anything and get out the effing way? FFS.
Agreed. Just get rid of it. Most subsequent difficulties can be addressed by existing laws and any egregious problems can form the basis for a new slimmed down law (bearing in mind bad examples make poor law).
‘A commission will be established..’ is a holdover way of thinking from the global liberal consensus which is falling apart in front of our eyes. It’s a shame that Kemi Badenoch hasn’t realised this (or is trying to keep the Conservative Wets on side). Still the Wets won’t be a problem after the next General Election.
Perhaps it’s just that governments have to justify their existence by “doing stuff”?
She is in the end another person in a long line of Big Government do-gooder types.
Spot on! In fact, it turns out that getting rid of the Equality Act 2010, which was sponsored by Paedophile Information Exchange supporter Harriet Harman under Gold-for-Sale Gordon Brown, is easy, because it WAS NEVER PUT TO A FORMAL VOTE IN PARLIAMENT!!!
Therefore, the Equality Act is NULL & VOID.
Hmm, maybe I’m being cynical but is it entirely impossible that Kemi Badenoch also benefited from DEI policies…?
Let’s face it, she ticks quite a few boxes.
And here’s the fundamental problem with positive discrimination: you never know if a “diverse” person is in that illustrious position because of merit or because of political preferences.
Well that is the problem isn’t it? They’ve made us actually racist. I no longer see someone in a role and think that they’re skilled in said role… I assume they’ve had a leg up because they’re a black lesbian autistic or whatever.
The interesting thing is that it’s impossible to know whether Badenoch benefits from DEI or not.
You’d think you’d be able to tell by how well or badly she does her job. But such is the nature of her job that it is near impossible to distinguish the competent from the incompetent. So much of the job is bullshitting, that by it’s very nature it’s basically impossible.
Which leads one to wonder what exactly “meritocracy” means in the context of jobs that you can’t really fully tell whether someone is doing it well or not even after they’ve been at it for a while.
I guess you could measure success at the ballot box/in the polls. Once they are in government it’s harder. One approach could be simply did they do what the promised they would do – but that’s not really a measure of competence, more of honesty.
She isn’t banning anything. She doesn’t have the power to do so.
As they will never get near the levers of power again in their current form, this is just p!ssing in the wind. And if they ever do get near, then Kemi will not be in charge on that future date. Pointless talk as the wets willl never allow it anyway..
Will that include the gender pay gap stuff as well, which is equal outcome legislation in disguise and which is statistical nonsense given equal pay legislation.
You just need to start again with the equality act, because it is not in practice about equality. It is instead about protecting certain category groups and therefore giving them a more beneficial status. Equality needs to be defined by individual basic rights
The problem is she opens her mouth and all I hear is blah, blah, blah, because we know she is currently just saying anything to try and sound different to the appalling mess that is the Starmer government. Behind her are rows and rows of people who believe in DEI, transgender rights etc. Then there is the green blob backed CEN group who will never allow her to open up new North Sea oil and gas. Next are the remnants of the liberal lawyer group who have no intention of letting her rip up Bliar’s human rights laws or leaving the ECHR. There is nothing new in the current Tory party that wasn’t there when they destroyed the country and other than a few solid right wingers, who possibly support her comments, the rest are literally laughing behind her back in Parliament.
So… does that mean she’s out too?
Hopefully it would get rid of her.
Well done LOTO. Only 25 years too late of which 14 were in office.
Bring back meritocracy. In my opinion, DEI applied over the years to all aspects of industry, the workplace, the Civil Service and politics is the reason why nothing in this country works as it once did.
I worked for a well known charity and it was clear that those at the top just couldn’t make a decision or run it efficiently. Their careful recruitment strategies run along strict DEI rules made sure that the wrong people were employed. Many mistakes were made but once it was clear they had employed the wrong person they could not be got rid of, thus gradually things went downhill.
In the UK are led by an idiot who is far out his depth surrounded by a cabinet whose combined brain power couldn’t run a tuck shop.
