Labour has been bitten by its own “monster of harvesting Muslim community bloc votes” in last night’s by-election, Kemi Badenoch said today following the shock Green victory in a campaign blighted by sectarianism. The Mail has more.
The Tory leader lashed out at beleaguered Keir Starmer amid a growing row over claims of coercive “family voting” in Gorton and Denton raised by independent observers of the shock Green victory.
Nigel Farage lashed out at “cheating” and Reform’s candidate Matt Goodwin blasted “dangerous Muslim sectarianism” in the wake of his crushing defeat after Democracy Volunteers said there were potential breaches of electoral law.
‘Family voting’ is where a voter is accompanied by another person, often a relative, into or near polling booths with the intention of influencing their vote.
Tougher legislation, known as the Ballot Secrecy Act, was introduced in 2023 in a bid to clamp down on the practice. That made clear it was an offence.
There were growing calls today for the Electoral Commission and the police to get involved in examining the claims.
In a lengthy statement issued this morning, Badenoch lashed out at all three parties who led the voting in Gorton, where the Tories came a distant fourth.
Addressing Sir Keir’s splintering party she said: “Labour created the monster of harvesting Muslim community bloc votes and yesterday that monster came back to bite them.
“As I have said many times before we are a multi-racial country, not a multicultural country.”
After a campaign in which Labour, Reform and the Greens were accused of fighting dirty she added: “If you stir up grievance politics between groups based on religion or race… you start to unravel the culture of tolerance that makes Britain great.”

So, the leader of the Dead-in-the-Water Party (once-upon-a-time the Tory Party) complains about the Party of Anti-Whitists and Anglophobes (the Labour Party) over the “victory” of the Eloi Party (formerly the Green Party).

Totally agree. When will these dumbass ‘bystanders’, the apathetic crowd, learn? Everyone knows ALL the Muslims show up to vote. They don’t do apathy because they’ve got an objective so are very focused and engaged. Not voting is for losers and those with a defeatist attitude, certainly not the strategy of a patriot who gives a damn about the current state and future of the country.

I disagree. Spoiling a ballot paper is meaningless. It never gets more than a single sentence in mention. If you deliberately spoil your ballot paper, you are lumped in with all the morons who filled it out incorrectly – not an easy thing to do.
Lack of turnout always gets far more coverage.
I believe ‘None of the Above’ should be on the ballot paper. If that had been on the ballot paper, I would have turned out for the 2019 general election when the only options in my constituency were Labour, Liberal and Conservative.

A depressing and concerning result.
I’ve written this before but I will write it again. “Right leaning” people in general seem to me to be people who want to get on with their lives, have fun, make money, not bother other people unless those people bother them. The left seem the complete opposite. So they have a built in advantage. I don’t really know what the answer is and I am certainly “guilty” of not really wanting to “get involved”.
I think you can throw in that the Far Left seem to be very well-funded, including from every philanthropic foundations, lots of billionaires and scamming taxpayers money. The right wing are just getting organised from a very low level when versions of the left have been in power for decades. But currently I do see a Far Left coaltion as a distinct possiblity where the off their faces Greens could push their crackpot ideas and guarantee a financial crisis almost immediately as UK debt is either dumped or demands a huge interest rate premium.
Those far left philanthropic NGOs also get plenty of our tax payers money. Item 1 for an incoming right wing government, cut the head off the snake.

British is a race.
You cannot be British unless your genetic code – bloodline – goes back to the founders of this island race, the Britons, the Brythonic Celts who crossed from the Continent thousands of years ago, who survived four centuries of Roman occupation and rule, who mixed with the colonising Germanic tribes (also ethnic Celts) over a period of 600 years to produce the modern Briton who happens to be White.
Being White does not make a person British, the French, the Germans, Italians are White but not British. Being a British citizen, or being born here, or culturally assimilated does not make someone ethnically British.
Unless you have Celtic DNA you cannot be British.

Absolutely. It should be a basic requirement for a voter to speak English, so they understand who and what they are voting for, without the need for an interpreter. Postal voting should revert back to its original function to stop wholesale fraud.

There is no “culture of tolerance” in Britain. History: Henry VIII through to reign of Elizabeth I, was filled with religious and political intolerance, wars, persecution, torture, burnings at the stake. And see 20th Century Ireland. Tolerance = putting up with, enduring something you don’t want or don’t like, or which is uncomfortable, painful, disturbing. There is no religious tolerance in Britain, our ancestors reached the point by the end of the 18th Century where they didn’t care what religion anyone was. So the Gaza Restoration Extinguish ENgland party have had a good result by some perverse combination of gay rights and Islamic fundamentalism which, let’s be honest, hasn’t got any chance of holding together. While Reform had an okay result pushing Labour into third, it is a wake up call for British democracy. Similar mergers of beliefs, just to achieve the anybody but Reform outcome could have devastating consequences for the cohesion of our country, I can see Labour and the Greens working together in places where there is a similar demographic, Labour and the LibDems in areas like Oxford and Gloucestershire, the LibDems and Tories in the South and South West. This could see these four achieving 150 seats each, with 50% of the vote in each constituency, while Reform only get 35-40% in each. Nationally that could result in a vote of just 12-15% for each party and 35-40% for Reform, but they would have almost no seats. If that plays out, prepare for outrage from the electorate, because the 24 difference between the Reform vote and the LibDem vote was bad enough.
It’s similar to devolution in the UK. Blair and his cronies thought that granting devolution would secure their votes in the future, instead the Scots and Welsh rewarded them by voting for nationalists.
