Police Accused of Turning a Blind Eye to Sharia Courts in Britain
Police across Britain have been accused of ignoring the spread of sharia courts after figures showed only 3% of honour crimes were prosecuted last year. The Telegraph has the story.
The data show the authorities are consistently failing to prosecute and prevent honour-based abuse, which can include offences such as female genital mutilation, homicide (honour killings) and forced marriage.
And campaigners are warning that the “privatisation of justice” within some Muslim communities through sharia courts makes it harder for the state to intervene.
They say this has fostered a parallel justice system operating behind closed doors with no state oversight.
Nick Timothy MP, the shadow justice secretary, said: “There can only be one rule of law.
“But the British state has turned a blind eye to sharia courts spreading across our country.” …
Last year, 2,949 honour-related offences were recorded in Britain, but only 95 defendants were prosecuted.
In 2023/24, 2755 offences were registered, but there were only 80 corresponding prosecutions. In 2022/23, there were 3,008 recorded incidents and just 68 successful prosecutions.
Between 2015 and 2024, the Metropolitan Police recorded more than 1,000 reports of female genital mutilation (FGM).
Some 109 cases of FGM were reported to police last year alone, while a further 111 were recorded in 2023/24.
This is almost double the 65 FGM cases reported to authorities in 2019/2020.
FGM has been illegal in England and Wales for nearly 40 years. However, despite the number of reported cases, there have been only three criminal convictions in Britain – the first of which, relating to a three year-old girl, was secured in 2019.
Meanwhile, some 766 forced marriages were reported to police between 2020 and 2025 but just 118 resulted in prosecution.
There were 125 reported cases in 2024/25, 201 in 2023/24, 173 in 2022/23 and 141 in 2021/2022.
The corresponding prosecution numbers were 30 in 2024/2025, 27 in 2023/24, 20 in 2022/2023, 33 in 2021/2022 and 8 in 2020/2021.
There are believed to be as many as 85 sharia councils operating in Britain.
These bodies – which are not bound by the Arbitration Act which guarantees some level of Governmental regulation – primarily manage family and marital affairs, including divorce and remarriage.

The existence of these courts is evidence itself that you’ve been Islamized. It should be the law of the land or nothing, zero tolerance for this garbage. It also makes you wonder what on earth is going on behind closed doors because how many such crimes are even reported to the police if they adhere first and foremost to their own laws and customs. I don’t think we’ll ever know the true extent of any sort of ‘honour-based abuse’ because most will go unreported. I think it’ll actually be sooner than that. I believe we have about 20 years before England is an Islamic state. The current mathematical models are too optimistic – they don’t factor in the motivating force that is sweeping through the Muslim community in the UK as it gathers momentum. The more Muslims, the greater their incentive to take control, and the more children they will have. I believe the Muslim population will increase at a staggering exponential rate. When your invasion is carried out by simply impregnating as many Muslim women as possible, and when your religion dictates that women are second class citizens, then you’re unstoppable. Only a civil war will halt their march and that’s not going to happen.
It can be summed up pretty quickly, the establishment do not represent the majority. The whole lot are actively acting against the people. If they were judged on the successes they would be ranked as well below any acceptable level of competence, yet they still reward themselves for their failures. In fact it does look like the more failures a politician or official makes the greater the reward. The last 35 years is notable for complete failure and betrayal of the so called elite.
We should ask Diane Abbott if Asian women will also go to the wall for their children, or is it only West Indian women.
Apparently by 2050 the country will be 50% Muslim. I knew that people could SLEEPWALK but I never knew a whole country (UK) and a whole continent (Europe) could. But it is obvious that is what we are doing—–SLEEPWALKING.
But it’s only 6% now. Can’t see such a drastic increase happening in just over a couple of decades. Especially if Reform get in and stop all of this mass immigration, and the rest of their pledges to deport certain people etc.
Don’t be too sure. —-24 years is a long time. —-But this idea that we should deport people is simply not necessary with political will, which ofcourse we have NONE. All that is required is to say that if you arrive here illegally you will receive NOTHING. No food, no money, no accommodation—NOTHING.
The very next day none will arrive. There will be no one to deport because they will stop coming.

Why are these Courts here at all? The UK has a legal system it has a judiciary that has been built over millenia. If people choose to reside here they must accept that the British legal system is the one that is Prima, there are no others.
Those wanting a different system such as Sharia need to move themselves to Countries where Sharia is the law. It does not belong here and should be made illegal.
We are not a Muslim Country (yet!)
Religious courts have always existed but those of the Church of England have been reduced to deciding internal church affairs while Sharia courts decidedly haven’t. In this respect, Islam is comparable to a private club with certain by-laws and tribunals making decisions according to them. People are free to submit to such decisions if they want that which includes that they can be made to want that for social/ cultural reasons. This obviously mainly affects women living an islamic life in the muslim parallell society which exists in the UK.
This is a knotty problem because islamic officials claim to act according to the will of a god which has more weight than mere human regulations. It’s also a knotty problem politicians, especially, left-wing politicians, prefer to ignore because they need the votes of the people who ‘voluntarily’ submit to this system.

Can we please be a little more assertive of our own culture? People murdering their female relatives or aquaintances have no honour which could ever have been stained by anything.
I was still in the police when the 2019 conviction of someone for the FGM of the little girl happened. I was a couple of weeks away from retirement.
It was trumpeted on the intranet as a big success, with the usual claims of how no stone will be unturned, etc. The story got lots of positive comment from around the force.
I posted a comment. I said it was great that this conviction had been secured – which it was. I then said that we should also look at protecting baby boys from the mutilation of circumcision, with equal determination. After all, why protect girls but not boys.
A few brave people gave me the ‘thumbs up’. However, cue *lots* of people telling me “That’s different”, including because “It’s worse for girls”, thereby spectacularly missing the point.
Some people seemed quite upset that I’d mentioned it. Had I not been within a couple of weeks of retirement, I think I’d have been pulled in for some stern words.
Hypocrites.
Agreed. It should all be outlawed as no babies and little kids should be at the business end of a scalpel unless it’s medically indicated. All this ‘religious and cultural differences’ shouldn’t fly as an excuse to tolerate such unethical treatment of vulnerable kids here in the West. I don’t even like seeing babies with their ears pierced but that’s nothing compared to having bits of their anatomy removed for no justifiable reason whatsoever.
Incidentally, where is this circumcision of baby boys happening in the UK? Because it’s obviously not done in NHS hospitals, though given their stance on medical ethics I find that surprising in a way. But it’s not just Jews that do this, is it? Muslims and non-Muslims also can participate in this.
For the Jews it’s done by a Mohel, who I believe plies his trade via direct contact with the parents. I don’t know about the legal situation, but it’s always been tolerated.
There are worse things in orthodox Judaism, look up about how husbands and rabbis decide if a woman is not menstruating and is thus able to have sex.
Sharia Courts must be banned.
Why are people so defeatist?, you take the benefits away, as will happen as not enough working to keep up this level of welfare, wont keep having kids, you forget many are “westernized” and turning away from Islam, and the biggest thing you forget is people have had enough and this situation will not continue for much longer, tobe hoped this generation doesn’t have to go to war!!.
