British Gas Boss: Electricity Will Cost More in 2030 Than During Russia Crisis Due to Net Zero
Energy industry executives are now beginning to come out in the open and tell us what some of us have been warning about all along – that, far from falling, electricity prices will continue to rise as a direct consequence of Ed Miliband’s mad obsession with Net Zero.
British Gas chief Chris O’Shea is the latest to break cover, with the Telegraph reporting:

And now, it seems, we’re to align with the EU targets which, although we’re the world leader in rapid transition to net zero, is apparently going to make us do it even quicker, more expensively, and more impossibly.

Actually caused because Europe stopped buying Russian piped gas – which was still in abundance, the price of which hadn’t gone up – and instead turned to more expensive LNG on the international gas market delivered from other suppliers which increased demand in that sector, so up went prices.
It had nothing to do with reliance on Russian gas or the Ukraine conflict, but everything to do with stupid, incompetent nitwits in “government”.

Prices went up because our lords and masters *decided* not to buy cheap gas from Russia, and instead (panic) buy more expensive gas from elsewhere.
(And that was long before the CIA blew up the Nordstream pipelines)
USA now supply 30% of Europes LNG, prior to 2022 invasion it was 3%. I have read that current bad weather in USA has messed up the supply chain and expensive alternative increased supplies from Middle East are now being imported.
I agree that net zero, green communism is causing much of this but….Britain’s electricity infrastructure is creaking because much of it is getting very old. We cannot even make the components of the system that we used to e.g. substation, pylons, cables. We are a deindusrialised, heading-for-third-world technical status, country. Systemic destruction of our industrial and technical capacities through the dumbing down of education, DEI obsessions (women must be forced to do STEM), and green communist, hippy drugged-up, civil service managed industrial policies, have put us here. We are dependent on foreign nations for industrial infrastructure and capabilities that we (mostly) invented and used to manufacture.
we have become a lazy nation of welfare crack-heads. We will not do what is needed and cut welfare back to the bone and force lazy people into work at the threat of starving them back if they do not comply. We must shame people again and use serious legal and practical coercion.
Time for massive upheaval and arse kicking of our people. And kicking out of visa overstayers, unwanted family members, leave to remainers and many other unwanted immigrants and illegals, as well. Remigration!!
But, but the green lobby keeps telling us that the Chinese are much better at this because they are decarbonising faster than everyone, building windmills and solar farms daily. Of course, the mendacious green bastards don’t like to mention the coal fired power stations that they are also building. Midday today, the carbon intensity of China is over four times ours, pumping tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere and completely undoing their argument. For me, though, the more they do that, the happier my garden and the agriculture industry will be, as the plants on which we depend will be better for it.

What we are likely to see next, unless the UNI PARTY is pushed out of office and REFORM take over is that full scale eco socialism will see poorer peoples bills paid by wealthier people. You have a point about REFORM or any other bunch of politicians and the fact we can never be sure what they might do. But we have to vote for someone, and I take the view that if enough people start to pay attention to a party like REFORM that is exposing the establishment for what they are, then they will have to change those policies that are poisoned with contempt for us.
We even see the Conservatives now making noises about NET ZERO and it was them who gave us the NET ZERO Amendment in 2019. ——Only by exposing their eco socialist fraud can we get rid of them or force them to reverse the commie climate stuff.
If you deliberately make energy generation very expensive and intermittent, people will use less of it.
For Communists, which is what the people pushing the Eco nonsense are, they have a well-developed understanding of the law of supply and demand.
It’s all about rationing (imposed and self-imposed) and control.
The only good news I can see is that Trump is showing the way to reverse all the nonsense. Cheap energy, a growing economy, job creation and prosperity. It’s all begging to happen over there. Also, they are having to break policy guidelines from government to achieve even the cost they are proposing. A subsidiary of Bute Energy, who are plastering the Welsh mountains with concrete to put windmills on, needs to build a new power line to connect to the grid. Ignoring a perfectly good, underutilized since the closure of the nuclear power station, access point in North Wales, they are going to build a new line across Shropshire and a brand new grid connector in the county. The line is overhead the whole way, both here and in Powys, ignoring policy for underground in Wales and despoiling the views across the Severn valley in Shropshire. They know that they can’t link to the existing connector, even though the distance is the same, because the Welsh government would not let overhead through Snowdonia and they can’t afford to bury it. So we suffer in Shropshire for a project sold by Bute as energy for Wales, that due to the amount of concrete being buried in the mountains and the miles of new cable is anything but green.
Why do they lie? (Rhetorical.) Volatility in gas prices supposedly caused by the Ukraine conflict were short lived and played only a minor part in the increase in wholesale electricity prices. We have been using gas to generate electricity for 50 years, and gas market prices have varied up and down during that period without causing major increases in electricity prices. Blaming them was to deceive and hide the real reason prices increased. This is evident by the fact that wholesale electricity prices did not fall back when gas prices went back to pre-conflict levels, instead they increased. Fact: none of the wind or solar energy companies have liquidity or are solvent because they have uncertain and non-continuous revenue streams, and total revenues are insufficient to cover capital costs, operating costs and give a return on investment. They only exist because of enforced transfers out of the pockets of taxpayers and consumers into the pockets of their shareholders, by distorting the free market and handing out taxpayer funded subsidies. Although the costs are a concern my big worry about what is called Net Zero is the lack of power. Blackouts will happen. Deaths will result. Economic activity will be even more reduced so relative economic decline will become absolute decline.
I wonder if anyone knows of any study concerning the effects on a community, in modern times, in a non-subsistence economy, when real incomes per head drop significantly. Say, five or ten per cent over three to five years with more after that.
I suspect that law and order break down, life expectancies drop sharply and the elites try to protect themselves using armed force. But I think they fail.
