Streeting Told Mandelson Labour Had No Growth Strategy in Private Texts
Wes Streeting told Lord Mandelson that Labour had “no growth strategy” in a direct criticism of Sir Keir Starmer via private messages last year. The Telegraph has more.
In private messages to the disgraced peer last year, the Health Secretary complained about the Government’s handling of the economy, which had been declared Labour’s top priority.
In a message to Streeting, Lord Mandelson said the Government “doesn’t have an economic philosophy which is then followed through in a programme of policies”. The Labour MP replied: “No growth strategy at all.”
Streeting took the unusual step of publishing the messages on Monday, before the release of thousands of communications between Lord Mandelson and senior Labour figures.
The messages will be revealed to the public in full after MPs forced Downing Street to pass them over to the independent intelligence and security committee last week.
Lord Mandelson’s close relationship with Jeffrey Epstein was laid bare after the publication of millions of documents relating to the paedophile by the US department of justice.
The political fallout of their friendship triggered the resignation of Morgan McSweeney, Sir Keir’s chief adviser, who quit on Sunday after admitting he had advised that Lord Mandelson was hired as Britain’s ambassador to the US.
Streeting, who is viewed as one of the contenders to replace Sir Keir if he resigns, may have taken the decision to publish his own messages to neutralise them if a leadership contest should arise.
They show that he was sceptical about Sir Keir’s approach early last year.

A lot could be read into the fact that Streeting specifies that the Ilford South ward is 51% Muslim – as if the party expects as a matter of course to secure seats in which the majority of voters are Muslim.
Clears up a few possible questions one could ask around grooming gang inquiries, police conduct, etc.
Possibly, but I’m definitely getting butch dyke vibes from that photo.🧒
Hmm… It makes me wonder what the two were doing 30 mins after this picture was taken…
I dont think we need the services of Hercule Poirot for this conundrum.
It really upsets me that these poor girls are being treated in a way you wouldn’t treat an animal; just to preserve their right to power
Interesting that Streeting seems more worried about his seat at the next election than the state of our nation.
The government absolutely has an economic philosophy it follows through on with policies – tax and spend, buy votes from public sector workers and people on benefits.
I see another site has a story from a whistle blower in the cabinet office claiming that they are being ordered to destroy or redact thousands of documents prior to release to the ISC. If that is the case, I hope that the speaker will be sending someone round to feel the collar of the cabinet secretary to drag him to parliament and explain his contempt. Oh my mistake, he’s about to resign so will say it ain’t his fault.
Document destruction is often a sign of an entity in its death throes.
“Streeting’s £20k fundraiser with McKellen hosted at Lord Alli penthouse”. In photos of the event there are two more familiar faces whose names I’ve forgotten. Does anyone remember?
A picture is worth a thousand words.
This scumbag has just destroyed NHS improvement and doesn’t deserve a chance at any position of political power.
lets face it, it’s a toss up between him and the ginger growler, god help us all!
