“Hypocrite” Eco-Activists Used Diesel-Powered Van to Carry Out Climate Protest, Court Told

“Hypocrite” eco-activists used a diesel-powered van to carry out a climate protest in Norwich that cost thousands of pounds to clean up, a court has heard. The Mail has more.

Gabriella Ditton, 32, and Nicola Stickells, 55, are each accused of two counts of criminal damage after pink paint was thrown over council buildings in Norwich.

Both defendants admit carrying out the protest but claim they had a “lawful excuse” for their actions as they were raising awareness about climate change.

Their trial at Norwich Crown Court heard they used a Mercedes Vito van to first travel to County Hall, which they covered in paint, before moving onto City Hall for a second protest.

Yesterday, Ditton was asked while giving evidence whether she thought it was hypocritical to use the diesel-powered vehicle to carry out the demonstrations on February 15th 2021.

The 32 year-old, who works as an illustrator and animator, said this was not the case, instead insisting her actions were “overshadowed by the enormity of the climate crisis”.

She told the jury that lowering her carbon footprint did not really matter as what is needed is a “system of change”.

Ditton, who is representing herself, said according to Eastern Daily Press: “The aim was not to create the most damage but raise a conversation.

“I have written letters, done marches, done everything and it’s not working.”

Giving evidence in her defence, Stickwells said they used the diesel-powered van due to difficulties transporting the paint on more environmentally-friendly modes of transport such as a bus or bicycle.

Will a sympathetic jury let them off or will justice be done this time? And why has it take half a decade to come to court?

Worth reading in full.

This is the regular response of these deluded hypocrites – I will carry on doing what I do, it is for the government to change, whether it is violent criminal damage, owning multiple homes, touring around the world on their holidays or pointless meetings. They will ignore their own demands and expect everyone else to change.

It’s taken five years to come to court for the same reason there are many other delays in the justice system; Governments want to get rid of jury trials, so purposely underinvest in the system so that it goes to rack and ruin, then claim that the only way out of the mess [that they created] is removing the right to trial by jury. This isn’t just a Labour scheme, as the Conservatives have played their part in the enshittification of the criminal justice system.

But of course when the case is against someone that Starmer really hates then everything proceeds at lightning speed.

Yes. Lucy Connolly’s prosecution for hurty-words was signed off as an ’emergency’ by Hermer and went to the front of the queue.

Let’s hope we see the same justice handed out to the obscene person who originated this post, not holding my breath though

Well of course if writing letters and complaining doesn’t work and you are so important you are perfectly entitled to go and create damage, perhaps like the tooled up attackers on the EBit site you could do that too. I am sure the jury will let you off, after all if you cannot get what you want, then you have to use violence and threats. Its shown to really work in thic Country, just look at the most favoured community as an example.

I don’t think the fact that they used a diesel van is really the problem here. It’s a silly, cheap gotcha.

The real problem is that they are dangerously delusional and millions share their delusion (or pretend to) including most of the ruling elite.

Nobody that is on board with this delusion is going to be persuaded or swayed in any way by the “irony” of a diesel van.

I find it interesting their view that nobody is listening. I mean they might just be attention seeking pricks but they might truly believe that there is a climate emergency and they have correctly noticed that nobody is taking it very seriously- not even the powers that pretend to and use it as an excuse. They can see the climate crisis industry is a scam, from a different angle than we do.

Any real emergency is very noticable and having had 20 or more years of the ‘fire climate alarm’ going off without anything happening apart from weather it is not a surprise if attention start5s to wander onto other topics, such as why is food and energy so expensive when we are producing more than ever and there are plenty of reserves of coal oil and gas?

To them, it is absolutely real, and of such consequence (the death of mankind by being gently warmed by 1 or 2 degrees), that they cannot put this down. It must be pursued with fanatical zeal. They also think, rather grandly, that the solution falls on their shoulders to deliver, that far from being by-standers in the pending catastrophe, they are the heroes who will save us all. Finally they imagine that any small step towards nett zero is worth the effort, despite its financial or societal cost, and despite China and India burning coal at a colossal rate, so much so that the UK’s entire output of CO2 is little more than a rounding error.

That, and they are probably bankrolled by the climate change in industrial complex. Has anyone ever investigated?

If climate-realists spray-painted a solar farm in protest at the Great Leap Backwards and claimed their actions were “overshadowed by the fake climate crisis,” they’d be banged up in no time.

Perhaps there is a good reason why it’s not working?

What law is that then?

I really wish our police force would stop wearing lurid hi-viz jackets. It makes the force look cheap and takes away any authority they have left. I don’t see hi-viz jackets with almost any other notable police force – Russia, France, US, Italy, Japan, German, India – All have smart uniforms and mostly dark.

At least they are wearing helmets, rather than those laughable ‘baseball caps’

In 2021 the local paper reported Ditton had already been arrested 16 times. I was working at County Hall when the paint vandalism happened and would have thought justice delayed is justice denied

A Nichola Stickells was involved in the criminal damage case against Elbit Systems. Could it be the same person. The idiot jury let the defendants off in that case. https://share.google/gNKpRJaAlhhAp8WM4

Government have a lot to answer for regarding these easily manipulated brainwashed people. They have all been convinced by endless propaganda that the earth is coming to a crunching halt, and if I thought that was true I might think chucking some paint was the least I could do to save the planet as well. ——Fortunately I can think for myself and don’t believe a word that comes from politicians and bureaucrats on any issue and certainly not on eco socialism masquerading as concern for the planet. But these activists are clearly unable to think for themselves and have allowed themselves to be indoctrinated, and Government and the bought and paid for media must shoulder quite a lot of the blame for that.

If you want to “start a conversation” you use the normal processes: write to your MP; join a political party; stand for election; campaign in a General Election.

You don’t commit vandalism and destruction of property.

I hope they’re jailed for a long time.

For a fist full of roubles

Have you ever considered that it may not be working because no-one is in the least interested in your self-promotion, dear lady.
