UN “On Brink of Bankruptcy”, Says Secretary-General
The United Nations is on the brink of bankruptcy after Donald Trump cut funding, its Secretary-General has said. The Telegraph has the story.
Antonio Guterres said the organisation was at risk of “imminent financial collapse” and could run out of cash by July.
He blamed unpaid fees and a budget rule that forces the global body to return unspent money, according to a letter seen by Reuters on Friday.
The UN has struggled for cash after the US – its largest contributor – cut voluntary funding to the body’s agencies and refused to make payments to its regular and peacekeeping budgets.
Earlier this month, Washington announced the US would withdraw and cease funding for 31 UN entities, including a climate treaty and body promoting gender equality.
Guterres told Washington at the time that it had a legal obligation to pay its contributions to the budgets.
“The crisis is deepening, threatening programme delivery and risking financial collapse. And the situation will deteriorate further in the near future,” Guterres wrote in a letter to ambassadors dated January 28th.
“Decisions not to honour assessed contributions that finance a significant share of the approved regular budget have now been formally announced.”
It was not clear which members he was referring to and a UN spokesman did not immediately respond to the Telegraph for comment.
Guterres urged all member states to “honour their obligations to pay in full and on time” or to “fundamentally overhaul our financial rules to prevent an imminent financial collapse”.

Putting aside their ridiculous appointments like China on the human rights committee, Saudi Arabia on the women’s protection committee, Russia on the global security committee and India on the environmental committee they’re also behind the WHO – the people who tore up the respiratory virus plan and imposed lockdowns, masks, untested vaccines and a host of other human rights violations with little or no scientific basis the reverberations of which will be felt for generations. All for a communist and his big pharma paymasters.
Let’s face it, the only use of the UN in recent decades is to harass Israel and provide gainful employment to terrorists. It won’t be missed.

AFAIK, the second-largest UN funder is the German state. The German government will doubtlessly be willing to increase its contributions.
I must admit that I get great pleasure from seeing people such as Gutteres panicking at seeing their gravy train coming off the rails. My pleasure would be increased a hundred-fold if the WHO and the EU followed suit. There must be many other useless organisations which could collapse and the world would be a much better place.
Good! The whole thing should be abolished as useless. It is interesting that the Portuguese Communist Antonio Guterres has remained in power as head of the UN for over 8 years, despite the fact that his country of Portugal is one of the lowest contributors, a mere 9 million euros per year, in contrast to the UK and France, who contribute over 130 million per year each. And this is in contrast to the world’s 4th largest economy, India, which is also now one of the lowest contributors to the UN, at a measly 21 million per year.
It was, and maybe still is, the same with British contributions to the EU, which provided a whopping ONE-FIFTH of the entire EU budget. That’s why the EU were so outraged by Brexit, when they saw their Golden Goose flying away…
