Home Office Buses First Migrants into Crowborough Army Camp Under Cover of Darkness
The first set of migrants to be housed at Crowborough army camp has been bused in overnight under the cover of darkness after months of Home Office denials that a decision had been taken to house asylum seekers there. The Mail has the story.
A total of 27 male illegal immigrants arrived at the camp in Crowborough in the early hours of Thursday morning in mini-buses that were escorted by police.
It came as the Home Office decided to press ahead with a plan to house up to 540 asylum seekers at the centre, despite months of protests from furious locals.
The asylum seekers will be kept there for up to three months while their claims are processed, with Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood saying “Crowborough is just the start” and that the move will help the Government close migrant hotels.
However, residents in the town, who have fought to stop the plans from going ahead, have vowed to keep fighting against the “unlawful” decision to open the camp.
Campaign group Crowborough Shield has accused Mahmood of “shamefully” failing to participate a judicial review and said they hope to get an injunction against the scheme in the courts.
Residents have taken to the streets every Sunday for months, insisting that the migrant camp would threaten the safety and wellbeing of people living nearby.
Wealdon District Council leader James Partridge said the Government refused to listen to the concerns of residents and that “we strongly feel this is the wrong decision”. He said the council was also considering taking the Government to court over the plans. …
Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp called the news “another day of shame” for the Labour Government.
“Illegal immigrants are costing £4 billion a year to house and they pose a threat to local communities up and down the country,” he said.
“We have seen hundreds of crimes committed by illegal immigrants in asylum accommodation, including many rapes, sexual assaults and even murder.
“Now the women and children of Crowborough will be exposed to those risks too.”
The Tory frontbencher added: “This site was used to train 6,000 army and RAF cadets each year as well as for police and fire training.
“They have all now been kicked out to accommodate illegal immigrants instead.
“Only the Conservatives have a plan to deal with this – come out of the European Convention on Human Rights and deport all illegal immigrants within a week of arrival.
“Then the boats will stop and we will not need to accommodate tens of thousands of illegal immigrants.”

The conversatives could have done this already during their 14 years in government. Besides, the problem that British judges quotemarder¹ from the ECHR to justify their political decisions can’t be solved by robbing them of the ECHR. They’ll find something else, eg, some UN convention on refugees.
¹ Usenet slang for: Taking a fragment of some text out of its intended context to repurpose it for something it was never meant to apply too, eg, the “right to a private life” which was – as the full article expresses clearly – meant to ban governments from blanket intrusions into the privacy of people’s homes and their private communication with other people.

The fact that the migrants were bused in overnight shows they knew it was very unpopular with the locals – but did it anyway!

Symptomatic of this Government’s attitude to the people of the UK as a whole, I believe.
The fact that a government does this during the night, knowing that there is huge opposition is sneaky. Not worthy of governing.
One crumb of comfort for me was hearing the Home Secretary refer to “illegal migrants” rather than “asylum seekers”. In politics, language is important. That’s why it bothers me that the Daily Mail seems to treat the terms “asylum seeker” and “illegal immigrant” as interchangeable.
We have a moral duty to consider granting asylum to those who are verifiably under threat in their native country. We have no duty of any kind toward those circumventing border controls to sneak into our country uninvited and unwanted, to abuse our systems and our people.
What are the chances of selling a house in Crowborough now? Looking forward to a class action in nuisance against the government for loss of value of properties. Crowdfunding the costs will not be a problem. Failure of the case must be anticipated, but that won’t matter, because it will spark the insurrection of non-compliance with authority anyway. Meanwhile, behind the scenes, with their loans in danger, the banks and building societies will once again demonstrate who runs the country.
Time for some enterprising local, under the cover of darkness or course, to weld the gates to the camp shut.
