BREAKING: Trump to Hit Britain With Tariffs Over Greenland
Donald Trump has announced tariffs on the UK and other European countries for their opposition to a US takeover of Greenland as he ratchets up the pressure in his move to acquire the Danish Arctic territory. The Telegraph has more.
The US President posted on Truth Social on Saturday that a 10% tariff on all goods sent to the US would be imposed from February 1st on Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands and Finland, before being increased to 25% on June 1st.
He accused the countries of creating a “very dangerous situation for the Safety, Security, and Survival of our Planet” after they sent a small contingent of troops to Greenland to help Denmark prepare military exercises.
He added that the tariffs had to be imposed to protect “global peace and security” and said they would remain in place until “such time as a deal is reached for the complete and total purchase of Greenland”.
The announcement came after Trump threatened on Friday to impose economic penalties on Nato allies who had spoken out against the plan, which Washington has cast as essential for national security amid risks from China and Russia.
However, he said on Saturday that the US was “immediately open to negotiation” with Denmark and the other countries that will be subject to the new tariffs over the fate of the island.

I wrote a comment a few days ago about how Europe, including the UK, were rapidly being considered by the US as rivals and less as allies and it wouldn’t be long before they started feeling the US’s “sharp edges”.
It wasn’t a well received comment and even got some mockery. But even I’m a bit surprised how soon it’s proving true.
Trump isn’t going to win any popularity contests. But at least he has a strategic plan for his country and dare I say the Western Alliance. It may not be subtle but it’s much better than our miserable managed decline.
Starmer/Labour has a strategic plan for the UK, dump into the bog and flush twice.
Planning and plotting to take over a part of the territory of a sovereign state that’s nominally an ally of the USA via threats and actions of political violence is not a strategic plan for any kind of Western Alliance. These are the action of a ruthless hegemon living by Obama’s Yes, we can! motto.
NB: I think that’s a good thing because I want all the madness of the Democrats out of Europe and the USA openly turning from a somewhat shouty ‘friend’ into the master of kennel of dogs who get the whip when they don’t obey can only help with that.
Not rivals in diplomatic. Economic or military matters. They are certainly a nuisance.
As the US prepares for possible conflict with China it needs to reduce its commitment to Europe. Meanwhile European NATO refuses to defend itself while lecturing the US.
Europe does not want to or cannot defend its borders, its economies are collapsing because of energy policy and internal adversaries are feted.
It’s noticeable that when the first round of talks between Putin/Trump failed and then the Russians advanced further into Ukraine and secured the mineral rich areas despite Trump negotiating a deal with Zelensky. Then the original idea of destabilisation of Russia also being a total failure using Ukraine as a means of attack.
So of course the Americans are trying to secure mineral resources in Venezuela, Greenland and The Middle East.
Europe has now been destabilised, is energy poor due to insane net zero policies, mass immigration that nobody wants and a population that has no confidence in its leadership. So we have a not so elite leadership that is elite in name only, we are rapidly deindustrialising, investment in new technology is low, growth for the past 20 years has been lamentable and the region is getting poorer due to all of the above and much more.
There is one thing we must now do and that is to start talking to the Russians and negotiate a security settlement in Europe. NATO is finished and the EU is on life support.
We have been sucker punched by the Yanks.
I would say our decline is largely due to the fact that European nations have gradually been taken over by bureaucrats.
We are not a society of enterprise and innovation but rather one of regulations and layer upon layer of unproductive management.
Our dynamism has been smothered by people who want to control everything and confiscate as much as possible in the name of equality and fair distribution of wealth. Those are the people in charge now.
I didn’t down vote but I suspect the mockery may have been directed at the suggestion that Europe is currently in a position to rival the US.
The EEC (1958) begat the EU (1992), was set up specifically to rival US economic dominance – post-war emerging Far East Countries of Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, too.
Odd that people are just noticing that US considers the US was rivals – why wouldn’t it, Europe considers the US as a rival?
And this from De Gaulle: “Yes, it is Europe, from the Atlantic to the Urals, it is the whole of Europe, that will decide the destiny of the world.”
How about that for rivals!
Urals? They would be the other side of Moscow… in Russia, wouldn’t they? So EU ambitions include Russia and people wonder why Putin reacts the way he does as NATO/EU creep further and further towards those Urals.
Maybe one day politicians in this country will realise that there are votes in defence.
If Britain still had a Royal Yacht engaged in soft power trade diplomacy worldwide, if Britain was contributing significantly to coalition operations in, say, Yemen, Iran, then the United States would not be bullying us in this fashion.
It is not so very long ago that this country was able to deter war both in Europe and the Middle East.
It is the export businesses and those who work for them that will now suffer, yet more job losses, yet more annihilation for the labour party at the polls.
President Trump is one part of a much needed wake up call for this country.
The other part must be systemic reform; a reforming government.
‘Basically, both Greenland and the Faroe Islands have been present in China for two years.
The representation is housed in the buildings of the Danish Embassy in Beijing and will be particularly dedicated to political, cultural and also economic cooperation between the largest island in the world and the most populous country in the world.
Accordingly, some business representatives from Greenland were also present at the opening.’

Oops!
That’s the price.
Europe is too weak to sustain Ukraine. Pathetic.
The U.S., consequently, has leverage.
The price for European security via U.S. assurances on Ukraine is Greenland.
Europe, Britain’s position is weak; impotent.
That is the future unless we take responsibility for securing our own borders and, hey, maybe that means we have put some serious rules of engagement in place.
Not going to happen with the shower of a government we have right now…
If Greenland, Denmark, the UK, and the EU (including Denmark) do not support the USA then by default they are supporting China and Russia.
Perhaps the downtickers would describe their plan of action were China to occupy Greenland. A hypothesis worth considering in view of the planned Chinese Mission in central London. Perhaps Trump knows something we don’t.
China isn’t at leisure to move much of its troops outside of China because otherwise, the outcome will be local rebellions and so far suppressed parts of it becoming independent. Even if this wasn’t the case, the idea that the Chinese Navy could carry out a military invasion over a distance of almost 14,000 sea miles (25,721km, 13,888 sea miles) is rather phantastic. Especially considering the by far superior naval forces of the NATO members even without the USA (195 major surface combatants and 5 carriers vs 149 major surface combatants and 3 carriers).
This is the first act of open aggression against a West European country since the second world war and we obviously don’t support it. OTOH, Putin is probably rather happy about it as the idea that a president of the USA could seek to annex a part of the territory of an allied nation and try to force this through by threats and economic sanctions for those who opposed him probably didn’t ever occur even in his wildest dreams before it actually happened.
Since no actual reason has ever been given for the US to just seize an entire foreign country, this map may explain it, and explain why Canada will be next, and why Great Britain is being forcibly dragged back into the EU, and why Muslim Turkey will be stuck onto the bottom of Europe against the will of the European people, and why currently free Eastern European nations will be given to Russia…
There is every reason to believe that a fake (green) religious element is in play. A reading of “Technocracy Rising” by Patrick M Wood explains this in detail. Gro Brundtland (Trilateral Commission member, and Maurice Strong (Secretary General of UN Conference on Environment and Development) brought about the Earth Summit in 1992, producing Agenda 21. Both they and Gorbachev (“Cosmos is my God, nature is my God”) were members of the Club of Rome. Strong and Gorbachev created the Earth Charter, a prototype for the New World Order in 1994. Strong wanted the charter to become the new Ten Commandments. Two days before 9/11 a celebration of the Earth Charter, attended by Steven Rockefeller, was held in Vermont. From P Wood, “The event revealed an elaborately decorated Ark of Hope, modeled loosely after the Biblical Ark of the Covenant, wherein a handwritten copy of the Earth Charter on papyrus was placed inside with other supposedly sacred items. After 9/11, the two hundred pound Ark was ceremoniously carried on foot from Vermont to the UN headquarters in New York City where it was placed on display. The two ninety-six inch carrying poles were reportedly made from unicorn horns which would ward… Read more »
That is very, very interesting information! I’ve just been searching the internet to find out where The New World Order “Ark of Hope” is located now, but could find no accurate results as to its whereabouts. It looks like a tacky sarcophagus to me.
That “Nature is my God” worship, like the previous “Gaia Earth Mother” stuff, ties in with the disturbing words at the end of Princess Catherine’s new video of her walking alone in the countryside, speaking of her own spiritual journey after health problems, but never mentioning God or Christianity at all. Only the words at the end: “Mother Nature”.
Dear people, there is no such thing as “Mother Nature”, but there is a Globalist plan to bind the world into a “Global Goddess Religion”, by tying in ideas from all faiths, as was pointed out decades ago.
Quite so. I will quote Wood again: “The Muslim faith has some 1.8 billion adherents, making up some 24% of the world’s population. Concepts of environmentalism, Sustainable Development, and Green Economy are deeply embedded into the Quran, where approximately 750 of its 6236 verses (12%) refer to ‘various aspects of nature, the relationship between man and nature, vegetal and animal organisms and their environment’ (source cited). In fact the Quran is the only religious book that has doctrines of environmentalism embedded in its core doctrines. […] Thus Islam is proposed as the ‘Green Way.’ ” (From Technocracy, the hard road to world order, by Wood.). This clearly explains the incongruity between Woke and Islam.

The UK would gain nothing from any association with the EU. Only NATO matters and largely only its extremities.
True, but the Globalists are not interested in benefitting the UK in any way, but in destroying it.
Thank you.
And thank you for taking time to consider it.
Iceland looks pretty close to Greenland… just saying.
So does Eurasia when you’re not distracted by Mercator’s projection.
Excellent point!
The Club of Rome made all these decisions in 1974. They made the map.
Perhaps they wanted Iceland attached to World Region 2 to claim fishing rights to the whole of the Atlantic Ocean between Iceland and Britain.
I wish he’d bloody well punish the Labour Communists for attacking our freedom of speech and expression, and for their endless anti native immigration policies. This isn’t helping us, Don.
Did you know that people have been encouraged to call him “The Don” because the name “Donald” apparently means “World Ruler”.

At this stage my sympathies are with Donald Trump.
Something that none of the media coverage of Trump’s desire to control Greenland seems to mention is that Greenland has large deposits of rare earth minerals that so far it’s decided not to mine for “environmental” reasons.
Although a lot of rare earths are used in “renewable” energy generation such as wind turbines which Trump isn’t interested in they’re also used in a lot of computers/electronics including a lot of military systems. China currently controls 85% of the world’s supply of rare earths and in terms of national security this is a major problem for the US.
I suspect that Trump’s main reason for wanting to control Greenland is to ensure the US has sufficient amounts of essential raw materials. There may well be secret talks going on to arrange a deal whereby Greenland starts mining with US investment and a deal that means the US can buy as many minerals as it wants before anything that’s left is offered for sale to other countries. Talk of military action or buying Greenland may well just be a tough opening position in negotiations to try and force a deal whereby Greenland remains part of Denmark and the US gets rare earths.
The US is developing computer chip manufacturing with the Taiwanese firm transferring technology. Tiawan is likely to be controlled by mainland China. As you say, Greenland is essential for US tech to compete with China.
Greenland has permission to declare independence from. Denmark and the Inuit could do this now and then Donald would have to pay them instead of Denmark. And it would be a fortune to share with a small population. They would not even have to give up independence but agree an exclusive deal. Invading a small independent country would put the US in a very bad light.
The way I see this is suppose I own a hedge cutter but don’t have a hedge, whereas my neighbour has a hedge but no cutter. Every year, twice a year my neighbour borrows the cutter. This year, he says why don’t I buy it from you, it saves you cleaning and oiling every winter, frees up space in your shed and gives you cash in your pocket. Why wouldn’t I sell it. Denmark has done nothing for Greenland, doesn’t really want it or look after it, indeed it abused many female residents in the not too distant past. Why are they clinging on to something when they haven’t cared for it? Let it go and keep the US happy, they’ve wanted it for 150 years and the Danish claim is fairly weak anyway. Anyone else offering to buy it and they would have sold it.
A tax per view paid for by the company on American owned social media , streaming sites and YouTube would raise far more than our exports to USA.
Very pleased to see the ‘read more’ has disappeared this morning. Thanks Mod.
No it hasn’t
Don’t worry folks We’ve sent a single soldier to counter President Trump. The soldiers former resume was “look-out” on the RMS Titanic
If Two-Tier wanted to be excluded from Trump’s tariffs, perhaps he shouldn’t have so blatantly attempted to scupper Trump’s Ukraine negotiations and restrained his objections to Trump’s objectives Greenland.
Trump appears to be forcing Two-Tier to choose ….. ally of the USA or the EU?
The Communist EUSSR want to drive a permanent wedge between the US and UK, to make sure that no one ever comes to the rescue of Great Britain again.
The optics do not look good for trump, but I don’t think we are being told the whole story. The tariffs are his tactics to force a serious negotiation. Unfortunately the EU is governed by non serious people, they already have their bad optics factored in. And those optics are not the trump bull in a china shop, they are spineless, snivelling and back stabbing. The state of the British armed services bribes the Americans through our weakness. It’s seems that the mirage of international law being a cover for raw power is over, because the western governments no longer agree.
A Country and its people get wealthier by its imports NOT exports which are a cost.
Exports earn foreign currency to allow the purchase of imports. The less foreign currency earned, the less can be imported from the issuing Country.
The more UK exports to the USA are decreased by tariffs, the less US Dollars earned, the less US goods bought and/or the less investment into the US.
The US isn’t the only gal at the dance. Exporting companies can switch to other markets, or direct sales into the UK domestic market.
But – I know it’s against the rules – but let’s deal with facts not the emoting, and hand-wringing.
Only 10% to 12% of UK companies export.
And… nearly 70% of UK exports to the USA are services and intangibles unaffected by tariffs, so the effect of tariff increases in the UK will be minimal, despite all the hyperventilating.
We also have much greater threats to our lives and economy than Trump playing his usual silly-buggers – an evil malicious Government bent on our destruction.
I have often criticised those suffering from TDS, but I’ not so sure now.
We should perhap complement it with TSDS so that there’s Trump derangement syndrome, manifestly in existence among it domestic and foreign political opponents, and Trump’s derangement syndrome, which also seems to be a factor.
