Union Groupthink Kills Industries and Jobs
This week, Britain’s anti-industrial green agenda created yet more problems for the beleaguered Lindsey oil refinery in Lincolnshire. In July last year, the then owners, Prax, faced accusations from the green press and Miliband himself that their mismanagement had led to the crisis. US-based Phillips 66, which owns a nearby plant, has now acquired the Lindsey site from administrators but has said that it is “not viable in its current form”, according to the Telegraph, indicating that the site will be mothballed. All this is very predictable, sadly. But perhaps the biggest tragedy is the continued failure of the unions that represent workers to respond to this car crash that was foreseen decades ago.
The Telegraph quotes Unite boss Sharon Graham, who told them:

Very well put. I especially like this, which sums up exactly how I think about “covid” u-turns as well:
“So my criticism of the U-turn is not that it is merely insufficient in failing to state a meaningful policy agenda but that this “epiphany” without pain is meaningless: I want to see expulsions, mea culpas, receipts and an account of how that party sold out its traditions, its constituencies, the public, the entire country and its industries.”
I too think of Unite and how it uncritically reinforced the government line on the vaccines – do as you are told and get vaccinated. Fortunately 45-60,0000 care workers left the sector and another 20,000 left the union. It’s not that they have the resources of a Green blob – they are the blob!
A voluntary part of it at least.
I too picked out that paragraph as the most telling. However even if some Uniparty politicians did show remorse and apology, I still wouldn’t trust them. Stop voting for Uniparty tyranny.
Bridgen and DeSantis had what look like genuine changes of heart. Can’t think of many/any others.
I think that’s much to nice. A politician is a guy who apologizes sincerely for his past missteps and learns lessons and then, turns round to do the same again. I’d prefer them to be sentenced to be chopped to death by windmills or having to live in cottages in the Scottish highlands without electricty and food they cannot either grow or catch for as long as they can manage.
Make an example out of them so that the next guy who thinks he just needs to talk a lot about saving the planet to be allowed to screw over the people freely thinks twice before he goes down that path.
Why would Unions and those workers paying into Unions want a “Low Carbon Economy”? —-Do people really think that construction workers out in all weathers, lorry drivers, people working in factories driving forklifts or spending 2 weeks on an oil rig or whatever job they are doing sit at home after a hard graft at work think “If only we had a low carbon economy”? ——-No they don’t.—– 99.9% of them will know nothing about climate and energy and that is why they are so easily manipulated, like the rest of the public who tune into their TV news at 6 pm to be indoctrinated by the Consolidated bought and paid for media, that the destruction of our Industrial Base and the 4.5 Trillion cost of Net Zero is all worth it because we must SAVE THE PLANET. It never occurs to them that when it comes to the alleged climate crisis (for which no evidence exists) that the UK is only 1% of it……..WAKE UP PEOPLE. The workers and everyone in this country are being played. —-This is a globalist SCAM.
I speak to many of the types of people you mention every time I visit one of my employer’s worksites. Without fail, they know Nut Zero is a fool’s errand. And most certainly don’t watch the BBC either.
Ask them how much CO2 is in the atmosphere and what percentage of it is natural and what percentage comes from humans? —-Most people know NOTHING about climate or how energy works. I speak to many many ordinary people, friends and family and I can tell you that none of them have a clue about this issue. eg my sister in law said my Hydrangea didn’t flower this year because “the weather is all messed up” but the real reason is because I had cut it back. Another friend said “I remember when I was young and there was snow all the time”—–They are influenced by what they see on their TV, and imagine that ordinary weather events are somehow evidence of disaster. That is why we now have the highest electricity prices in the entire world and keep voting for the phony planet savers who are robbing us blind.
The unions have been working against the interests of the working class since as long as I can remember.
“I want to see expulsions…”
I think the only way Badenough stands a chance of resurrecting the Not-a-Conservative-Party is if she kicks a bunch of senior LibCONs, starting with May and Cameron, out of the Party.
Yes it was a so called Conservative (Teresa May) that gave us the Net Zero Amendment in 2019. Do Conservatives actually exists anymore? Yes they do but the get kicked out of the party. The only conservative thinking people like Braverman, Rupert Lowe, Bridgen, Truss etc are all banished to the extremities of politics and what we have left is a Magnolia coloured Parliament all barking up the same eco socialist tree where absolutley everything that gets done has to be filtered through the Pretend to Save the Planet Prism.
I have gone right off her anyway after her pointless and wrong stated intention of banning under 16s from social media.
That’s not wrong. That’s crucially important for the program: Children must be cut off from non-government sanctioned sources of information until they reach voting age because otherwise, they might come up with dangerously wrong ideas like that pensioners freezing to death in flats without electricity in Berlin¹ would be a more important problem than fighting against the far right on the internet or tackling climate change by turning electricity from an abundant into a scarce resource.
¹ German MSM have essentially been silent about the power outage in Berlin, preferring lengthy stories about how climate change is bad for penguines and stuff like that instead.
Quite correct, since it was Far Left extremists who blew up the electricity connections and this is not their first crime, but then like XR here, nobody has ever really been punished for what these ecoterrorists have done.
On the plus side, the lefties living in Berlin deserve all they get – it’s a bit like trying to feel upset if the power and gas was cut off from Islington.
Even in Ilsington, there are probably many people who cannot really be described as lefties and nothing in Berlin (or Germany in general) can be compared to Islington. Certainly not Berlin-Zehlendorf which is a 100% CDU area which used to be the German “more conservative” party and – despite it’s factually center-left and heading outwards today – the most “right-wing” party Germans can vote for without being constantly labelled as Nazis and targetted by violent “anti-fascists” if they political inclination becomes generally known.
The idea of banning them is not wrong as such—–But what it means is that everyone will have to prove their age not just children and that is how the Political Class operate. They always use the “never let a good crisis go to waste” tactics.
They do not want anonymous people able to post criiticisms of their policies, they want to know your name and where you live so that you can be “monitored”.
It’s wrong to me. This is for parents to decide, not the state.
How can parents decide, when there’s no borders or controls. It’s a conundrum.
There have been suggestions that it could be implemented on a school by school basis. On a child by child basis, which is what parental control alone would entail, it would fail as children with access would be more valuable as friends.
How do parents control anything their children do? A problem for the parents, IMO. I am sure there are tools available, services you can sign up for etc. If you’re a parent who doesn’t want your kid on social media, knock yourself out. Just don’t force your restrictions on ME and MY KIDS.
It’s the ‘proving your age’ giving the Authorities everything.
I binned out of Unite for this very reason.
The unions and the Labour Party have been a complete disaster for the economy and the working classes. I was in the TGWU many years ago and I can confidently say that they make matters worse for the workers. In the end I got out and became a white collar worker, I did very well but I have great memories of the fantastic job I had in those days. Wind on to the Blair years and the following governments and again socialism has been an utter disaster. In fact the western world is falling apart now, we are in trouble and it looks like we are past the point of no return. Karl Marx wold be rubbing his hands in glee.
Unite leadership clearly believe they have found a way to have their cake and eat it!
The Holy Grail of Net Zero and zero job losses.
Right, well good luck with that! Oxymoronic.
Clearly, Unite leadership is just as fully committed to narrative stupidity as this vile braindead government and media.
Is it too much of a stretch to suggest that had the leadership acted otherwise they might be a tad less wealthy than they currently find themselves?
There’s nothing that can’t be helped by subsidies.
As ever Ben, a complete description of a bunch of clueless fools who undoubtedly couldn’t find their backsides with both hands.
Somehow this travesty of representation needs to be called out so that all of Unite’s membership go banging their fists on the union’s doors demanding that they do what they were founded to do and are paid to do.
As far as I know, the British Unions are still essentially Marxist, so why wouldn’t they support a project to “rationalize” ownership of the means of production and the modes of consumption in order to save the planet aka mankind? That’s the idea which is the very core of applied Marxism and since the problem it was originally meant to solve, physical misery and political disenfranchisement of the working class, no longer exists in Europe, it obviously needs a new problem to remain relevant.
Only slightly OT, but has anyone else seen the completely unbelievable news that the new tugboat fleet for the Faslane dockyard is to be built in China. Apparently no British shipyards were able to quote, so the contract was given to a Dutch company who are subbing it to their Chinese business. Our most sensitive naval base will have Chinese boats running it. WTF is going on???
But what did Unite do about it?
Reminds me of when Jack Carter caught up with Albert Swift at the betting shop and asked him ‘What did you do, Albert?’ in relation to knowing that Jack’s brother was murdered for finding out his daughter was in porn films. As Albert Swift had done nothing Jack stabbed him to death.
The Labour Government needs to finally get into gear. Its Net Zero policies are hurting workers – it’s time it showed them whose side it is on.
You do not have to be stupid to be a union leader but it is no hinderance obviously. Labour has shown exactly whose side it is on if the dumb woman hadn’t noticed.
What’s new?
