The Stories We Hear About from Minneapolis – and the Ones We Don’t

In the USA there are about 60 murders on average every day. In addition, while accurate figures are not available and definitions are debatable, it seems likely that the police and other branches of law enforcement kill (justifiably or not) two or three people daily. Given the relative frequency of such events, why is it that occasionally such a killing is picked up by the mainstream media over here while most are totally ignored?

On the day of writing, Thursday January 8th, the BBC is leading its bulletins with news of the killing of 37 year-old Renée Nicole Good. The BBC website has multiple reports focused on the story, profiles of the deceased, interviews with witnesses, a livestream, reports on protests and video recordings of the killing. In the midst of no end of crises of global significance, and quite a few big UK stories, does a tragic incident in the US from the snowy depths of the Mid-West deserve to dominate our news media to the extent it has?

Coincidentally, the killing of Renée Good occurred about half a mile away from the site of George Floyd’s killing back in 2020. Another death at the hands of US law enforcement that would normally go unnoticed by the world outside Minnesota.

Yet a further coincidence is that both the Floyd and Good killings occurred within two miles of the Quality Learning Centre, the Somali owned childcare business that over the past week has become globally notorious – notorious, that is, if you get your news from somewhere other than the legacy media.

Here’s the odd thing: inside the legacy media there’s been hardly any mention of the Minneapolis Somali childcare scandal. If you haven’t heard of it, you’re in good company. Of the six friends I had lunch with over the weekend, none had, despite it having dominated the news in the US for days.

Of course, you might think there’s nothing odd about this at all, why would anyone in Britain be the least bit interested in misspent taxpayer dollars on the other side of the Atlantic? Well, it looks very much like the childcare scandal in the US has a number of the characteristics of our ‘rape gang’ scandal. Both scandals are dominated by a particular ethnic group. Both scandals have been hidden in plain sight for years.

As with the rape gangs, there have been repeated news reports, criminal investigations, City and State level inquiries going back years. People have been charged and found guilty of fraud, yet the frauds have continued. The scale of the scandal has been downplayed and the frauds have largely continued uninterrupted.

However, the story has been given fresh legs by the work of Nick Shirley, a 23 year-old YouTuber. Shirley had stumbled on the work of ‘Dave’, a Minnesotan, who has spent years compiling evidence of fraud, primarily within the Somali community. The thefts involve the siphoning-off of over $1 billion in taxpayer funds across multiple schemes, primarily from federal and state programmes meant for child nutrition, autism services and day care services.

Shirley’s 41-minute film on X has garnered 139 million views; in addition it’s been seen by millions more on YouTube, Rumble and other platforms. It’s spawned countless memes and has been clipped countless times. What wouldn’t the BBC give for a 41 minute programme that was watched by some 150 million people! Maybe it’s professional jealousy that’s led to it to ignore the story, but I somehow doubt this.

J.D. Vance the US Vice President has been commenting on the film. Tim Walz, the Governor of Minnesota and the Democrat’s candidate for VP at the 2024 Presidential Election, has, since the release of Nick Shirley’s film, declared that he won’t stand for re-election. Donald Trump himself has questioned the value of hosting any Somali migrants at all.

Across the US multiple citizen journalists, inspired by Nick Shirley’s scoop, have started to dig up similar funding scandals. Additionally, evidence that some of the funding was being returned to local Democrat party coffers in the form of donations has emerged that threatens to tangle the party even deeper into this particular web.

It would be hard to overstate the size of the story in the US. Yet over here, as they say in the States, ‘crickets’!

The BBC covered Tim Walz’s decision not to seek re-election; however, the report didn’t mention the Somali connection until paragraph 16. The BBC’s main reference to the Somali link was to play it down: “State officials have pushed back against allegations of fraud in the video. BBC’s US partner CBS News found no evidence of fraud when it reviewed public records for the centres, although it did find citations related to safety, cleanliness, equipment and staff training.” Does the BBC want the take-away from this to be the idea that Tim Walz has called time on his political career because of deficiencies in staff training in privately owned childcare facilities?

The BBC’s other reference to the Somali links to the Minnesota fraud also sought to play it down by framing the story around Trump withholding aid to Minnesota.

Even the UK’s primary Right of centre newspaper, the Telegraph, has barely covered the story and where it has its line has been about Trump withholding aid to migrants.

Look elsewhere in the UK’s legacy media and you’ll struggle to find much. It’s almost as if there’s a concerted effort at suppression!

Largely, it’s only been on X where the story has been covered. Attempts by the progressive Left to repudiate the story have largely failed. No skeletons have been dug out of Nick Shirley’s cupboard. The evidence provided by ‘Dave’ is largely from public sources or FOIs. Previous convictions and court testimony have shown the veracity of the evidence. Given this, it seems all the more remarkable that the Renée Good shooting should occur just down the road and at a time when any pickup in mainstream media interest in the Somali childcare story can be deflected away. What are the odds that with the massed ranks of the US media in town, suddenly this other story suddenly blows up? Am I being cynical or is this just too convenient – an all too useful distraction for media outlets who’d far rather talk about the killing of a pro-migrant protester than a fraudulent migrant community?

Just like our own rape gang scandal, the Minnesota childcare scandal would likely have been buried if Musk hadn’t acquired X. Likewise, it’s all too probably that if the UK and EU had managed to enforce their various ‘online harms’ regulations then, like all those people in the UK dependent upon the legacy media for their news, the rest of us would also have remained totally ignorant of this huge scandal and its parallels in the UK.

It’s apparent that the George Floyd and Renée Good stories both conformed to a narrative of oppression by the forces of law and order. Both were seized upon and escalated with wall-to-wall coverage, whereas the Somali childcare story, much like the UK rape gang scandal, is seen as challenging the shibboleths of the progressive Left, with the result that it’s downplayed and, where possible, ignored.

In these three stories, all from a small area of downtown Minneapolis, we can see the battle between the two sides play out. It’s crucial that the forces of openness and freedom win out, but Musk is currently fighting a lonely battle in the media world. I worry that without Trump providing cover for Musk and X it wouldn’t be long before that last light of freedom represented by X is snuffed out.

Many of us are worried that Trump in the USA and Reform in the UK are the last chances of a return to normal liberal democracy in the west. If they are not successful many worry the next stage might be violent rather than democratic and definitely involve ethic conflict.

Only the far left and islamist groups can look forward to that.

I fear we may already be past that stage and it has become a question of when rather than if.

The ICE versus protesters look frighteningly like the beginnings of a civil war to my uneducated eye. If the police in the UK applied the law even handedly my guess is that similar scenes would quickly emerge around Gaza and other Islamic protests and counter protests.

As an American living overseas, I cannot wonder why all these young people are not at work? Unlike the Uk, shopping malls are empty M-F because everyone is at work. Surely these people will have to return to their livelihood soon?

Reform are controlled opposition and recruiting Muslims daily. There is no such thing as an ‘islamist’. This is an attempt to pretend that there are different kinds of Muslims. They all swear oaths on the Koran. I suggest you read it.

Excellent article by Nick Rendell, pointing out the strange parallels and coincidences in these things. Will our own British police, White Liberals, Football Teams & Starmer soon be cravenly “Taking the Knee”, like they did last time?

What a perfect distraction from the Somali Minnesota Fraud Scandal!
I still don’t understand why the Corrupt Somali Ilhan Omar has not been deported for immigration fraud, gaining US citizenship by marrying her own brother, nor why the Corrupt Somali “police officer” Mohammed Noor has not also been deported for the cold-blooded jihadist murder of Australian Justine Damond.

Great post. No Burn Loot Murder insurrection after that culling. She was blonde, very pretty. My guess is that the Muzzie Police stooge asked for a lot more than ‘can I see some ID’. She resisted was shot dead. No one apparently cares in the Fake News, Fake Grievance industry. Very selective.

US is in a civil war – started in 2016, accelerated with the Rona plandemic, 2020 electiion fraud and the BLM, fascist anti-Fa violence. The CIA-Demon party deep state has declared war.

Minnesota is a joke. Not the land of 10000 lakes and Scandinavian lineage. Now, apparently mostly queer, tranny, leftard and Muslim with Muslim Somalians stealing U$100 Billion feeding the Demon party and the bad guys are ICE and Trump. Insane.

Thank you for remembering that lovely Australian lady Justine Damond, murdered only one month before her wedding to her American fiance. She had called the police to help a woman she heard screaming in an alley behind her house in the middle of the night, and when the patrol car arrived, she went out to tell the two officers sitting in their patrol car what had happened. She was still in her pajamas, and as she was explaining the situation, the Evil Somali Noor actually pulled his gun, reached over the White American officer beside him, and shot her through the chest at point blank range.

He later claimed to have been “frightened” or some such ridiculous claim, and was let off with only 12 years in prison, then when he appealed and complained, his lawyers got his sentence reduced to only 4.75 years, and now he is free, confident that he has won his ticket to Paradise by doing his Muslim duty of killing an infidel.

This is called “justice” in Minnesota, now controlled by Somali Muslims and Marxist Harpy politicians, lawyers and judges.

Watch this weeks VivaBarnes on YouTube. He explains how Bondi is propping up lobbyist friends who are receiving bribes to advance or reject certain cases. He is a supporter of Trump, not some lefty so gives some weight to his analysis.

I’ve been following this story since it first broke. In the first few hours, all the lefties were screaming cold-blooded murder and that she was an innocent bystander who had just dropped off her child at school and panicked when men were surrounding her car. Then details about her background emerged – that she’d packed in her job to become a full time “ICE protester” and that she was continually following ICE officers and attempting to disrupt their activities. There were also reports that 2 of her children were in care – and that the reason they had been put in care (I shall put this as judiciously as I can) didn’t exactly show her and her wife in the best light. Still the liberals made excuses. Then footage from one of the officer’s bodycam emerged which clearly showed her talking to the ICE officers (so she was 100% aware who they were), showed her wife filming and being a disruptive pain in the arse to the ICE officers – and showed her driving at and hitting one of the officers. And still the liberals claimed it was cold-blooded murder. Finally, yesterday, more footage emerged showing her deliberately blocking the… Read more »

It was totally avoidable, but of course tragic!

I read somewhere that the ICE agent who fired the shot(s) had already been run over once by a protestor, so was maybe a little trigger happy, but that could be fatal.

The Left is creating this entire situation, using a stance I find a little perplexing, standing up for the rights of criminal illegals. You would think there was a better group to die on a hill for, like law-abiding legal’s and illegals you might think have a legitimate case – okay notwithstanding that entering the country illegally is obviously an illegal act by definition.

I wonder if the people funding her training to be an ICE protester care that she has been killed – or are they secretly pleased at the media storm it has produced?

If all the protestors could stand back and look carefully at the use made of their activities they might, perhaps, be less willing to be a martyr for somebody else’s cause?

I’m wondering how Somalis in Britain compare to the US where they are typically either on welfare or committing fraud. I wasn’t amused a few years ago when Mo Farah complained about being shut out of the USA and saying he should be let in because he was a taxpayer. So just another tax exile from Britain. Who did he think he was? A Formula 1 driver?

The Somalian fraud isn’t just one daycare Center. It involved dozens of other ghost businesses, all housed in a number of buildings that are empty. Home healthcare, doctors offices, daycare centres. Dozens of businesses that do not exist. One must ask why it took a 24 year old kid and a guy called Dave to uncover the fraud involved? Aren’t the people, hired to inspect such businesses doing their job? Were there kickbacks at every level of gov’t? Many questions to be answered, billions of dollars to be recovered. George Floyd died of a drug overdose while being detained by police. The woman in the car who was shot by an ICE officer when she attempted to run him down with her SUV, was a member of an anti ICE org? In both cases, their deaths were a sad outcome of their choices. the removal of Somalians from Minn has begun. It will continue. People from Minnesota, being midwesterners are usually middlings. They are not far right nor far left. The next job for the attorney general is to find out who funds the people currently rioting, destroying public property, attacking ICE agents. Hopefully she will act quickly, and deal with… Read more »

Well maybe if Musk did something about all the AI pornography – including child porn – on X – he would have more credibility.
I am glad the truth can be posted on X when it gets no platform elsewhere but I am sick of endless fake bot accounts following me and all the other rubbish that X is littered with.
The whole Somali community sounds utterly corrupt and obviously have completely failed to integrate so I don’t blame Trump for wondering aloud what the point of letting them live in America is.
There needs to be a long over due purge but it needs to be much better managed than the current mess which is creating more problems than it is solving.
ICE agents need to be properly trained – a real professional would not have reacted the way Ross did – despite severe provocation he would have kept his cool – Ross over-reacted and will now spend a very long time in prison with his life and career ruined because he made a poor decision.
It’s a double tragedy – one person is dead and another’s life has been ruined.
If only cooler heads had prevailed.

I heard a story on GBNews this morning that Somalis are going on holiday in Somalia with bags full of dollar bills – 100s of thousands in a bag or suitcase. They register the export of vast amounts of cash at customs and the US customs just let them through. No-one knows what is going on.
