Gas Boiler Owners “Will Subsidise Heat Pump Users” With New Levy Under Ed Miliband’s £15 Billion Energy Plans

Gas boiler owners could face a £30 green levy on their energy bills to subsidise heat pump owners under plans reportedly being considered by Ed Miliband. The Mail has the story.

The Energy Secretary is expected to unveil a bumper £15 billion warm homes plan next month following months of discussions with the Treasury over costs.

Mr Miliband is hoping to make gas users pay to encourage the uptake of heat pumps by imposing the levy to artificially cut electricity bills, reported the Times.

The Government is trying to move away from gas because its price is far more volatile amid a push towards what Ministers claim will be cheaper renewable energy.

The cost per unit of gas at 6.29p per kilowatt-hour (kWh) under the Ofgem price cap is currently a quarter of the electricity rate at 26.35p – known as the ‘spark gap’.

It comes after the Chancellor said last month she was trying to cut energy bills and the overall cost of living, with £150 off the average household bill from next year.

Rachel Reeves said in the Budget announcement that she would do this by scrapping the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme introduced by the Conservatives in government, which she claimed had cost households £1.7 billion a year on their bills.

Ending the ECO, which saw insulation and modern heating systems funded by a levy on all energy bills, meant a cut in average gas bills of about £30 a year per household.

But Mr Miliband’s plans mean such a benefit could now be wiped out – and energy campaigners suggested a range of alternatives for the Government to consider. …

Green energy entrepreneur Dale Vince criticised the change, telling the Times: “It impacts the people that can least afford their bills, let alone dream of a heat pump.

“If you get a Government subsidy for a heat pump, you still need to find £7,000 yourself.”

But the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) insisted to the Mail today that suggestions over the new levy are simply “speculation”.

Meanwhile, China pumps out the “planet-destroying” CO2 though its 1100 plus COAL fired power stations, and to add to the fun they have at the expense of the West, building between 300 (NPR) and 700 (mining.com) NEW COAL FIRED POWER STATIONS in China and around the world.

And all across the western media class and political class, NOT A WORD IS SAID. It is all kept quiet.

Drop in the ocean. My electricity bills are already huge because of the policies of successive governments.

Just an idea. If you haven’t done so already you could offset the rise in energy bills by not paying the BBC propaganda tax. 😀

Why does she like it? It’s wall to wall propaganda and/or depressing rubbish. Lying about everything is the default.

And this is just the tip of the iceberg, because all of our huge increases in taxes, electricity, transport, water, everything … is secretly in order to subsidise all the FREE STUFF FOR FAKE REFUGEES, who pay nothing for any of it, including the NEW COUNCIL HOUSES:

Where is all the electricity going to come from? Wind and solar? Okay, it’s been sunny for a week over Christmas but I suspect wind generation is way down.

Ah, the old $64m question…

– Can’t rely on interconnectors, our neighbours might have same weather
– gas-fired power stations will charge through the nose for standing by
– there are almost no nukes
– er, that’s it……

Hence ‘why is the Minister for Energy SECURITY pursuing this policy’?
And so far, no-one has been able to challenge his argument (apart from getting jingoistic brush offs, like ‘leading the world on climate change’)

One must conclude that he is trying to destroy our society

I see the enemy very clearly…

Will this ridiculous liar explain to me how putting £30 tax (not levy, it’s theft by taxation) is lowering my energy bill? Yet more cost increase nothing to do with wholesale prices, currently lower than pre Ukrainian Russian war prices. I can’t afford any of his fake green systems on my pension and am already using less gas and electricity year on year. This evil POS knows people can’t afford his f…ing pipe dream but knows we have to pay his theft, we have no options, freeze or pay his bloody theft. I can’t wait for them to be thrown out by the British public and hopefully we will see them all prosecuted for lying in public office.

Sadly some will believe them

But yes the only ways to lower the true cost of energy are to produce it more efficiently or find more natural resources so there is more supply. Everything else is just fiddling about with WHO pays.

Not really. Gas generation is subject to a carbon tax that comes through to the customer. Then there are all the subsidies added to the cost of electricity. And then there is the extra cost of rebuilding a perfectly electricty grid to cope with windmills in the middle of nowhere.

Those are not true costs but artificial ones externally imposed by government action in pursuit of an agenda. Governments can’t really change the true cost of something, unless they are directly involved in production in some way.

I saw a report earlier that my annual bill will reduce by £138 from April, so now I don’t know if it will be £108 instead.

As for subsidising heat pumps, why the hell should I? I’m not the one basing my heating on a system that doesn’t work properly with our climate and housing stock in the UK.

Begone Miliband, your time was up years ago.

I have been calling climate change politics ECO SOCIALISM for years now, and here we have another example of it in action. What is different about GREEN Communism though is that often it will be poorer people subsidizing wealthier peoples new green purchases, eg a wealthy person will benefit from a subsidy paid for by poorer people to put solar panels on his roof.—-We see it hear again with this proposal about uptake of heat pumps.
We are in serious trouble now that our energy policy is driven by Eco Fundamentalist UN/WEF parasites like Miliband who put alignment with the phony planet savers FIRST and the British people LAST. —–We now have the highest electricity prices in the whole world because of this eco socialist climate change racket, and with the Climate Marxists dictating policy it will only get worse with millions forced into energy poverty and our Industrial base DESTROYED.

True… all these green “ideas” that only suit the richer members of society. Brand new EV? 45% haven’t got off road parking and a high percentage NEVER buy new cars – they simply can’t afford them. 2nd hand EV market? No thanks. Solar panels on roof? Once again, a scheme for the more well off.

There is something seriously wrong with this gov’t. When a small child can see how ridiculous heat pumps are from an engineering point of view, you continue to have a man in office pushing heat pumps. Perhaps, one day, when Britain modernises its infrastructure, heat pumps may be appropriate, but not until that happens. Why then does this man continue to push an inappropriate heating solution on people who simply, do not want it.
