Ed Miliband “To Spend Billions on Solar Power” in Scramble to Meet Labour’s Pledge to Cut Energy Bills

Ed Miliband is poised to splurge billions of pounds on solar power, batteries and heat pumps in a scramble to meet Labour’s pledge to cut energy bills, it has emerged. The Mail has the story.

The Energy Secretary is expected to set out proposals next month to allocate up to £13 billion over the next four years as part of the Government’s warm homes plan.

According to the Times, a shift in policy will see billions of pounds invested in household grants for installing solar panels, heat pumps and battery storage.

Ministers are said to believe the plans could see some homes become “zero bill” – meaning they pay little or no money for power.

The newspaper also reported that the Government will lift restrictions on ‘plug-in’ solar panels that can be installed on balconies, patios or flat roofs.

This could see ‘plug-in’ solar panels, which can be plugged into a power point without the need for specialist support, made available in the middle aisle of supermarkets.

Prior to last year’s General Election, Labour promised its planned move to ‘clean power’ by 2030 would slash £300 off the average annual household energy bill.

Mr Miliband has stood by that pledge and denied his Net Zero drive is keeping Britons’ energy costs high.

At the Budget last month, Chancellor Rachel Reeves announced plans to cut energy bills by £150 a year by scrapping some green levies.

But it has been claimed much of this saving will be wiped out by new energy levies to help fund upgrades to Britain’s power grid and maintenance of gas pipelines.

Ministers are said to believe the mass expansion of solar power and batteries is the fastest and most cost-effective way to help voters see the benefits of Net Zero.

“This is all about bills,” a Government source said.

He’s arguably the most dangerous of Labour’s imbecilic front bench.

Of course it won’t work, I live in Italy and have 6kw south facing solar panels with 5kwh battery and even then I still have to buy some power sometimes and there’s only two of us plus various dogs and cats.

At higher latitudes- fugettaboutit.

Will he also be providing a sun that stays in the sky 24 hours a day and shines through thick cloud?

Yes I heard him today talking about energy that we can control without specifying how he would be controlling the sun, the wind or the tide. What a complete idiot

Doesn’t the moon influence the tides? Perhaps they could send a remote controlled moon up there at the same time as the 24/7/365 sun. Job done.

To mods – the use of the shortened form of canute was a deliberate reference to controlling the tide if you wanted to edit my comment and fair dos, it’s your website you would have done better to change to canute, jus’ sayin’ and happy new year to all of you keep fighting the good fight.

A bit presumptious – he will be gone in less than 4 years.

Ministers are said to believe the plans could see some homes become “zero bill” – meaning they pay little or no money for power.

And I believe there are fairies at the bottom of my garden. Who are these retarded ministers who believe this nonsense?

‘Clean power’ by 2030 was never possible because the resources to deliver it do not exist and it is questionable that the money exists to pay for it. As for scrapping green levies, Rache The Princess of Thieves is just moving them to general taxation so the taxpayers are still paying for this crap with the illusion of lower bills.

LBC watch: Coverage by Simon Marks included an interview with Dale Vince and another pro-net-zeroista, all about the wonderful grants available for solar panels and heat pumps. I switched off, but not a word about where the funding for those grants and subsidies would come from.

Funny, it may be just me, but my house tends to need the most power, I don’t know, at night, when the sun is down and my second hand solar panels I put up do sweet F all, and the most they have ever put out in full summer sun was 1.3KW, or about one hobs worth of power. When do we cook, oh yes in the evening for dinner.
How and why are we ruled by the idiotic high priests in the entire West?

Ross Clark in the Spectator has an article about his own solar panels which he put up when the very high rates were available for selling into the grid. He has zero electricity bills but the problem is that the rest of us are paying for it on our bills. Mad Ed is obviously not able to grasp details about energy policy. MODERATOR HERE: The income Ross Clark receives is something called a Feed in Tariff. They are a subsidy which was established to encourage the take-up of renewable energy generation, and were very generous (so, lots of scams…) until about 2015, when Amber Rudd woke up to what was going on and started cutting them severely. Clark is being paid 70p per kilowatt hour JUST FOR GENERATING renewable electricity, regardless of whether he uses the electricity, sells it, or just dumps it into a heater out in the open air! That 70p is well over double what consumers now pay for electricity (27p?). FiTs last 20 years and are linked to RPI; if Clark sells the sparks for the market date (almost 30p) he could be earning £1.00 per kilowatt hour, of which 70p is coming from the rest… Read more »

ED——Look out of your window. —-It gets dark all winter about 3.30 pm, and does not get properly light again till about 9 am. —-What kind of half wit thinks using sun is a good idea in a northern country like the UK?——The answer is stupid eco socialist UN and WEF arse lickers like Miliband. But he is not alone. Almost all of the Political Class are in on this commie climate scam that isn’t about the climate.

Miliband has ben telling porkies about lowering energy bills since he gave us the absurd Climate Change Act back in 2008—–Instead of lower bills we now have the highest electricity prices in the entire world. If we are going to keep electing imposters and bare faced liars then we will get what we deserve. ——-IMPOVERISHMENT.

Those with “Zero bills” have them paid for by the rest of us via our taxes and additional costs on our energy bills.

This is like the “free” NHS.
