Boys Are Not Defective Girls
The Government has announced a new initiative in which teachers will be trained to spot misogyny and boys exhibiting signs of it will be sent on behavioural courses to mend their ways.
As a progressive middle-aged man who has grown to accept that women are allowed to vote, drive and answer back (even when their husbands are only trying to help them become better people), I look back in horror at the speed of my juvenile radicalisation.
It all started with a joke on television about family dynamics. I won’t repeat it or name the comedian, because I don’t want to fall foul of the Online Safety Act and it is unfair to traduce the dead, but he was very uncomplimentary about his mother-in-law. Who could have imagined at that moment that the bawdy laughter of a Northern working men’s club would be my gateway drug to toxic masculinity?
One night only a few months later, I was leaving the house, clad entirely in black and carrying a small holdall, when my mum accosted me.
“What’s that on top of your head?”
“They’re night vision goggles.”
“I see… One of the kitchen knives seems to be missing. Have you seen it?”
“Yes. It’s in here,” I said, pointing to the holdall.
“What is the balaclava and gaffer tape for?” she asked, peering into the bag.
As I started to explain that I had been tracking a local woman for the past few weeks to study her daily schedule and route home from work, she rolled her eyes theatrically, chuckled to herself and ruffled my hair. “Sit down you little scamp. We need to have a chat.”
A counterfactual scenario in which my mum had been out that night, or the parent intercepting me had been Fred or Rose West, doesn’t even bear thinking about. I’d probably still be in prison to this day.
Now, if you’re one of those po-faced prigs that have been so emboldened by the censorious climate of the 2020s, please spare me a lecture about making light of a serious subject. At this advanced stage of societal disintegration, humour is probably the only thing keeping the mentally stable from the burgeoning ranks of the professionally ‘anxious and depressed’. If we didn’t laugh, we would be crying into welfare cheques at your expense.
Honestly, it’s hard to know where to start with this latest ham-fisted attempt by the state to usurp the role of the family.
Well, let’s start with that.
A ham-fisted attempt by the state to usurp the role of the family; both a symptom and a tactic of socialist subversion.
Not that the family, whether nuclear or otherwise, bears all the responsibility for pastoral care. Too many adults, from policymakers to coddling parents, seem to have forgotten that moral education is more osmotic than explicit. Values are slowly absorbed through the home, peer group and broader culture, not drilled in by the clumsy pedagogy of misandrist institutions.
The vast majority of men have never raised a hand to a woman, yet I doubt many of us were ever expressly warned against it by parents or teachers.
Which begs the question: who exactly is the audience for these sermons of the bleeding obvious? Violence against women is wrong. Racism is bad. Gay people should be free to live with dignity. Sexual assault is unacceptable. Everyone knows these things. It’s preaching to a massive choir, split unevenly between the converted, who never needed to be told in the first place, and the recalcitrant, who don’t give a shit.
With Sadiq Khan’s excruciating ‘maaate’ campaign for young men to call out sexist banter, Keir Starmer’s suggestion that the “documentary” Adolescence be shown as a cautionary tale in schools (what kind of Philistine doesn’t know the difference between a drama and a documentary?) and this anti-misogyny gimmick from Jess Phillips, the henpecked male youth can feel the tentacles of American HR culture tighten around his throat.
Most boys and young men cannot articulate why they find the feminised worlds of contemporary education, corporate governance and public discourse so repressive and suffocating, an incoherent frustration that is most likely to express itself in the very same anti-social behaviours these proposed struggle sessions are intended to prevent. But what else would you expect of a tone-deaf establishment so inattentive to second order consequences?
Case in point. The oxygen of ‘manosphere’ figures like Nick Fuentes and Andrew Tate is the hyperventilating disapproval of polite society. Polite society’s solution to their (overstated) influence? Strongly disapprove, censor, deplatform, hyperventilate until you pass out. Tell young men that these people are bad role models who are beyond the pale, because, as we all know, nothing is less appealing to an adolescent male than transgressing taboos.
So boys will continue to be pathologised as defective girls, while the definition of ‘misogyny’ keeps expanding to satisfy the insatiable demands of woke bureaucracy and the covert motives of the digital surveillance state.
Sadly, these attempts to regulate normal human interaction through Orwellian legislation and overzealous policing will probably be welcomed by a population that has shown it will trade pretty much all freedom for the illusion of safety. Having entered into an abusive relationship with us in 2020, the state is pleading the old ‘you make me do it’ defence.
If the radicalisation of young men isn’t a confected moral panic, we should all try to find a solution. But this isn’t it.

Shame we can’t uptick the article without making a comment
It’s a funny old business. It seems to me that I spend some of my time thinking that women should be more like men (whatever that means) and some of the time being very grateful that women are nothing like men (whatever that means). I’m a bloke. But really, spending time and energy thinking about what other people “should be doing” or “should be like” according to me (beyond expecting them to leave me alone unless I harm them or steal from them) is an incredibly dumb idea and I should be getting my own house in order.
I can’t help feeling that all this hectoring about misogyny is there to divert attention from the treatment of women in Islam.
And in the meanwhile the dinghies keep coming, full of testosterone filled young men who definitely, positively do not consider themselves to be defective girls.
I am willing to believe that Jess Phillips personally opposes violence against women and girls, however since she operates as part of the labour party she has to tread carefully. (Of course she could always tell the truth and shame the devil – but I can’t see that happening).
So she cannot mention rape gangs, or FGM, or honour killings.
What can she say then that will not get her into trouble with very important communities that the labour party seeks to woo?
How about…a campaign to correct naughty schoolboys. Apparently some of them are seriously cheeky. And the really good thing is that none of her colleagues will veto a campaign like this.
Result!
How’s the Pakistani Rape Gang inquiry going Jess?
Almost stitched up to ensure that all the police, councillors and their staff, social services, MPs etc are completely exonerated ….. they couldn’t possibly have understood what was going on, let alone do anything about it.
Move along ….
When I was in secondary school from the mid-1980s until 1991, we took it for totally granted that men and women were equals in all respects. I remember how totally baffled I was when I – this must have been about 2000 or 2001 – encountered a young woman who said something like “Now, please don’t claim I’m just doing that because I’m a woman!” for the first time.
This suggests that it took dediciated ‘feminists’ about two decades to revert most of the progress which had already been made in this area and thus, re-enable them to play the role they really want to play. But that’s too late for me, Ms Phillipps. At 53, I cannot be unsaved anymore. I’ll continue to believe that men and women are equals and that that’s how things really ought to be.
I remember reading many years ago about a man who stood up to offer his seat to a woman on the London underground. “I hope you are not doing this because I’m a woman”, she said. “No”. he replied, “I’m doing it because I am a gentleman”.
Nice story. I can practically hear him say that. Nevertheless, there’s something seriously wrong here: I firmly remember this men – women thing as solved problem and a time when everybody also thought this was a solved problem, a spectre of the past we had cast off because we had learnt better. Obviously, nobody claimed that women and men were identical but it was generally accepted that they were of equal value and equal non-physical abilities. This changed around the turn of the millenium, when the old stereotypes suddenly came back with a vengenance and since then, have pretty much assumed law-of-nature status, similiar to how all other woke issues are imagined by those seekign to manage them: It’s always assumed that the cause is inherent – can’t you see It’s In Their DNA™! and cannot be solved except by force: All men are assumed to be violent imbeciles looking down on women they want to murder and rape (or the other way round, but always both). And the only way to stop them from doing so is to force them through neverending rounds of brainwashing whenever they show any signs of “male behaviour.” A part of this is presumably… Read more »
Since I cannot edit this anymore: Better wording for cannot be solved except by force would be can only be kept under control by constant observation and suppression.
Yes boys and girls were treated equally, but I do recall that while I was out on the rugby pitch in the freezing cold and and the girls were doing much more gentle things I didn’t give it a thought. But in hindsight I think it may have been better if I’d attended the domestic science classes, just to even things up of course and to prepare me for the new freedom ahead. There are a few videos on YouTube where Jordan Peterson eviscerates feminists for achieving the opposite of what they say they achieve. There is one where he proves conclusively that the outcomes of the feminist objectives have achieved exactly the opposite. There are also many videos showing career women who can’t understand why, at 35 years of age are past the point where any serious man wants them. They simply can’t understand that their life choices are wrong, they just keep blaming the men. In fact many young men are seeing that having a relationship is a complete waste of time. The only benefits for a man is sex because they look around and see that society favours women in all respects and despite the equality women… Read more »
I used to have a sports teacher who thought it was a great idea to have us (boys) all go out into the snow in swimming trunks for about a quarter of an hour before a swimming lesson. We ended up throwing snowballs at each other and this really wasn’t much more uncomfortable than usual. Nevertheless, I doubt that a female sports teacher ever did this with her girls. But boys were supposed to become men which included becoming soldiers and girls women which didn’t. That’s why I wrote equals and not equal.
Apart from, I occasionally call the femizeros (translation of the German term Feminullen, a Null (“zero”) is colloquial German for incompetent and therefore, useless person) out for their blanket statements about men, eg, the classic male violence despite the overwhelming majority of the men never commit any violent crimes and most victims of violent crimes by men are other men, but I won’t play ball in this respect. I’m not going to make derogatory blanket statements about women just because I’m supposed to do that. A lot of people are a**holes and these come in all sexes.
“I’ll continue to believe that men and women are equals and that that’s how things really ought to be.” Blimey, quite a rare sight to see such a sentiment stated by a man on here. Usually it’s disparaging remarks such as how everything wrong with society is women’s fault, courtesy of us acquiring the right to vote all of an entire century ago. Correlation can be used and abused at will when one has a bee in one’s bonnet and an obsessive need for a scapegoat which will divert attention away from who’s actually to blame. “I’m not going to make derogatory blanket statements about women just because I’m supposed to do that.” Yes, you’re clearly breaking ranks with the general consensus of the DS Boys Club here, but I suppose there’s the odd few outlier men such as yourself who are realists and were brought up with the same philosophy as me: treat others how you wish to be treated yourself, irrespective of so-called ‘personal characteristics’. And nobody is expecting you to make derogatory remarks about women, just to behave like a decent and respectful human being. I find most people reciprocate the way in which they’re treated/spoken to, anyway. “A… Read more »
Where to start?
A bloated public sector with far too many on the payroll with too little to do.
Until we roll the state back to pre 1939, 163,000 civil servants or so, roll back the regulatory framework, restore the 1990 tax code, this nonsense on stilts will continue.
Parliament requires reform, cut the Hof L by 60%, institute the Cameron plan to cut number of constituencies to 585 and double pay for MPs to improve their calibre (the MP photographed being a case in point).
That’s where to start….
A reforming government is required.
100% true. Which is why these attempts will fail because they will be seen as what they are – sanctimonious, overbearing BS. And the people who deliver this education will be either sceptical and do it half heartedly (great) or will be true believers and come across as angry and insane (even better).
Expect the detachment of young men from prevailing social orthodoxies to increase in proportion to the vigour that they try to shove these ideas down their throats.
The best way to get young blokes to become misogynistic is for women teacher to lecture them about having to respect women.
Whatever happened to earning respect, rather than demanding it.
Teachers are not trained clinical psychologists, and a few lectures will not make them so, so the scope for misdiagnosis or spiteful activity is plenty.
Next: to reduce NHS waiting lists, porters to be trained in cardiovascular surgery.
The real problem is, and always has been, nasty little misandrist pricks like Phillips. And I mean misandrist in the true sense of the word – she hates males. This is the same vile creature that literally laughed when another MP – I can’t remember who, maybe Davies – tried to talk about male issues like suicide in the house of commons. There’s nothing that could be more hateful than to believe one sex shouldn’t exist as they do. Narcissistic bit of feminist filth.
Agree. Great post. Megalomaniac narcissists, all of ’em.
The government seems to have only two roles:
1. To destroy the country.
2. To give as much publicity as possible to someone called Andrew Tate, whom most people had never even heard of.
The bigoted Fabians in power hate white working class males. I think they hate them because they know the Party was created to advance the interests of white working class males, not Champagne Socialists like them …. and certainly not in the interests of every REALLY bigoted and misogynistic “ethnic minority” male they can cram into the country.
They also know they still desperately need the votes of the white working class males they despise so much.
So it’s a form of deflected fury …. an expression of rage.
I don’t even think “mysogeny” is the right word for the problem. Isn’t it the objectification of women and as a recent Facebook post pointed out, doesn’t the fact that 240,000 young girls between 18-24 are posting on “Only Fans” also contribute significantly to this problem, despite the modern left apparently viewing this as a “my body, my choice” issue. I despair.
This wouldnt be instead of the G gangs inquirey would it Jess?
Moxon (2018) reviewed the literature on misogyny, and concluded that that the evidence better supported its antithesis: philogyny and misandry.
