Activists Attack Crown Jewels With Apple Crumble and Custard
Four people have been arrested after activists smothered apple crumble and custard over a glass case containing the Crown Jewels inside the Tower of London, this morning. The Mail has more.
The campaigners, who have identified themselves as members of Take Back Power, then unfurled a sign saying: “Democracy has crumbled – tax the rich.”
Take Back Power said it is a non-violent civil-resistance group demanding the UK government establishes a “permanent citizen’s assembly – a House of the People, which has the power to tax extreme wealth and fix Britain.”
Metropolitan Police said four people had been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage, while the Tower of London had now been closed to visitors as the force continues to investigate.
The glass case targeted was the same one containing the Imperial State Crown, which is worn by the monarch at the end of the coronation ceremony and at formal occasions like the State Opening of Parliament.
It was worn by King Charles at his coronation in 2023, and was seen atop of Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin during her lying-in-state period and subsequent state funeral at Westminster Abbey.
A spokesperson for Met Police said: “Police were called at 9.48am on Saturday, December 6th to the Tower of London following reports of criminal damage to a display case, containing the State Crown.
“It was reported that four protesters threw suspected food onto the case before two left the scene.
‘Officers worked closely with City of London Police and security officers and four people have been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage. They have been taken into custody.
‘The Tower has been closed to the public while the police investigation continues.’
In a statement following the action, the group said: “Since 2011, the poorest 10% of households have paid a combined tax rate of 44% on their income and wealth gains, while the richest paid 22%.
“Our political class, be it this Government, Reform or Tory, serve the super-rich; they do not care about working people.
“That’s why we must demand real democracy, with ordinary people at the heart of decision making, through a citizen-led assembly that has the power to tax the rich.”

Fine these nutters the total cost of all the Entry Fees to the Crown Jewels display that have been lost owing to the exhibition closure. Plus a few thousand to cover the investigation fees incurred by the Plods, plus court costs. Then throw them in a Tower dungeon for a few weeks on bread and water. Non-payment of the fines ?? No probs. An extra month in the dungeon for each £1,000 unpaid, compound interest of 10% per month to apply. Sorted. P.S. the bread to be stale.
Why are people allowed into a museum display like that with vessels full of crumble and custard? Tell them to sod off.

The intro to the article describes the group as ‘consisting of public school-educated toffs called Tarquin and Arabella, no doubt’. The only reference in the article to individuals is ‘Miriam, a retail worker from Leeds’ and ‘Zahra Alia, a student from London’. I think their actions are silly enough not to need to say something that may well not be true.
