Cash-Strapped Council Spends £1,500 on LGBT Bin Carts

A cash-strapped, Green-run council has splashed £1,500 on decking out its street sweepers and bin carts with the trans-inclusive Pride flag. The Telegraph has more.

The Bristol Waste Company, which is owned by the city council, added the livery for the Pride festivities earlier this year, however critics said civic chiefs should be focusing on spending money that “prioritises local needs”. …

A freedom of information request revealed £1,465 was spent in total, including £525 on the sweeper liveries, £860 for cleaning van liveries and £80 for stickers.

Announcing the decorations in July, Bristol Waste said on X: “We’ve been busy getting parade-ready for Bristol Pride tomorrow!

“Look for our street sweepers and street cleansing carts decked out in rainbows and helping Bristol shine with pride.

“Remember, put all your homophobia, transphobia and litter right in the bin.”

Bristol Waste was set up in 2015 and is responsible for waste collection, recycling and street cleansing across the city. Its funding comes from council finances and includes commercial revenues generated by the company.

Last month, Bristol city council announced it would be faced with a £117 million budget shortfall in five years’ time. Meanwhile, the funding gap for the upcoming 2026–27 financial year, beginning in April, stands at £20.8 million.

In addition, the council saw its debt increase by £105 million in the last financial year to £600 million in total. …

Bosses have also previously been criticised after insisting that women should be called “people with ovaries”.

They claimed that legally defining sex as biological “misgenders trans people” and could lead to discrimination.

Officials also argue that the term “maternity” should be scrapped and replaced with “paternity” to avoid offending trans people, despite the latter meaning “the fact of being a father”.

Earlier this year, the Green-run administration also proposed to charge yoga teachers, paid dog walkers and other professional exercise tutors £450 a year to use a city park.

It comes with being stupid enough to vote in a Green council.

Principally, yes. But I doubt the Greens included this as supposedly vote-winning policiy in their election materials and hence, most people who did vote for them probably believed they were voting for something that’s rather more important.

I think many people actually believe voting Green is something to do with the environment

Almost as if the Greens used enviro-babble to attract votes, then did the old bait-and-switch trick by actually championing gender woo… 🤔

Quite fitting, really, given that the entire anti-scientific and harmful ideology belongs in the garbage. This is a very good article on the subject, written by an evolutionary biologist; ”Over the last decade, academic biology has been under full-scale ideological assault by activists pursuing the narrow political goal of convincing the public that the biology of sex has undergone a revolution. Whereas biologists traditionally viewed the reproductive categories of male and female as a strict binary, these activists and ideologically captured scientists now claim that modern biology has abandoned this overly “simplistic” view in favor of a more complex model involving myriad traits that fall on a continuum. According to this narrative, the traditional binary model was not merely wrong — it was a product of bigotry that actively oppressed intersex and transgender communities. But no scientific revolution ever occurred. No new data have overturned our universal understanding of males and females as evolved reproductive strategies rooted in the type of gamete, sperm or ova, an organism’s reproductive system has the biological function to produce. Instead, the assertion that sex is a “spectrum” gained traction because activists successfully attached moral valence to what should remain an amoral empirical matter. Scientists and the… Read more »

The pathological misalignment is actually because such people are gullible, they believe their own thoughts uncritically, instead of examining them to eliminate the ludicrous ones.

Wouldn’t it be great if the average Green mutated into a variant with enough working neurons to understand that there’s more to life then performative political messaging aka virtue signalling? Like, say, actual problems of real people politicians are supposed to deal with.

Although it’s wasted money, I’m surprised it’s so inexpensive. Is it £1.5k per street sweeper/bin cart or £1.5k total? How many vehicles adorned with this tat?

When I was born homosexuality was illegal, now apparently it’s compulsory! Or at least it’s compulsory to ram it down everybody’s throat. I have no problem with gay, I have several friends and a close relative who are gay, but since I don’t shout out my sexuality I don’t want someone else’s sexual preferences shoved in my face.

It’s compulsory to celebrate people for having sex with other people provided they’re not a man and a woman each. This means they’re somehow special. And this specialness must be celebrated because ordinary people are responsible for anything bad in the world, mainly, because they sometimes do other things than have sex.

Pass a balanced budget mandate, using last year’s actual income plus verified growth as the income number. Then they can’t rig the budget by anticipating outrageous income.
