BBC’s Bias “Pushed Hamas Lies Around the World”

The BBC’s Arabic news service chose to “minimise Israeli suffering” in the war in Gaza so it could “paint Israel as the aggressor”, according to an internal report by a whistleblower. The Telegraph has the story.

Allegations made against Israel were “raced to air” without adequate checks, the memo says, suggesting either carelessness or “a desire always to believe the worst about Israel”.

BBC Arabic, which is funded partly by a grant from the Foreign Office, gave large amounts of space to statements from Hamas, making its editorial slant “considerably different” to the main BBC website even though it is supposed to reflect the same values, managers were warned.

The BBC also gave “unjustifiable weight” to Hamas claims about the death toll in Gaza, which are widely accepted to have been exaggerated for propaganda purposes, and incorrectly claimed the International Court of Justice had ruled that genocide was taking place.

Danny Cohen, the former director of BBC Television, said it was now clear that the BBC was “not safe” in the hands of its senior managers and they should “hang their heads in shame and resign”.

In an article for the Telegraph, he said: “Having made such serious and misleading journalistic errors, BBC executives chose to hide them from the public rather than correct the record.

“Protecting the BBC’s reputation came before the duties and principles enshrined in the BBC’s Charter obligations.”

He added: “That the BBC has helped to push Hamas lies around the world and fuelled antisemitism at home cannot now be in doubt.”

The BBC was plunged into crisis on Monday when the Telegraph disclosed that a Panorama documentary doctored a speech by Donald Trump which made it look as though he had incited the Capitol Hill riots.

As a result, the BBC is facing questions over trust, with Lisa Nandy, the Culture Secretary, and the broadcasting regulator Ofcom facing growing calls to launch an inquiry into alleged BBC bias.

Concerns about coverage of the war in Gaza were raised in the same 19-page letter to the BBC Board that highlighted the “manifestly misleading” Trump documentary.

Michael Prescott, who until June was an independent adviser to the BBC’s Editorial Guidelines and Standards Committee (EGSC), was so appalled by the BBC’s lack of action over multiple instances of bias that he wrote a devastating memo that was sent to all BBC Board members and is now circulating in Government departments.

In a copy of the letter seen by the Telegraph, he says that BBC Arabic gave a platform to journalists who had made extreme antisemitic comments.

One man who said Jews should be burned “as Hitler did” appeared as a guest on BBC Arabic 244 times in 18 months.

Another man who described Israelis as less than human and Jews as “devils” appeared 522 times in the same period.

Earlier this year, BBC Two broadcast a documentary called Gaza: How to Survive a Warzone which it later admitted was narrated by the son of a Hamas official. The broadcasting regulator Ofcom found that the film was “materially misleading” and ordered the BBC to broadcast a statement with the findings. The film was also removed from iPlayer.

Despite years of complaints about the BBC’s reporting of the Gaza conflict “there is no sign of an open admission” by managers about “systemic problems” within BBC Arabic, Mr Prescott said in his memo.

BBC Arabic, which is part of the World Service, is funded mainly through the licence fee, but also receives support from the Foreign Office through its World2020 programme.

Many of us who regularly post on the DS will have observed the bias of the BBC on this and many other issues over many years. While we have not the resources to examine their output in detail it has been clear they are not giving a full and fair report on the world’s or on Britain’s most importanmt issues.

While the words and images can be shown to be incorrect and biassed, because they are obviously not simply mistaken, it is more difficult to demonstrate the bias evident from their selection of stories to report or exclude and their running order.

Even the tone of voice of their presenters tells us what they think: sometimes smiling, sometimes sneering and raising their voice at the end of sentences when they simply do not believe the report they are (occassionally) giving about one of their hate figures, basically DJT, Nigel Farage or any of their supporters, small business people and the little people whom they despise.

An easy (comparatively) way of pushing back against the liberal global consensus would be to defund the BBC.

What the BBC choose to report is up to them within the bounds of free speech, but people who don’t share those opinions should not be forced to pay for their transmission.

I don’t watch read or listen to much msm but it’s obvious from independent online evidence that a terrible and cruel attack ion Gaza has occurred. Probably Gaza would inflict the same on Israel if it could

I don’t know what you mean by “anti semite”.
But if that means I think that Israel continues to murder thousands of innocent civilians – 50,000 plus- and that’s only recently – then yes I’m an anti semite – in your eyes. So that makes two of us at least who have a moral compass.

Kudos to most on here who’ve seen the covid scam, the locdown scam, the net zero scam, the mmRNA scam, the immigration scam etc.
That said it’s such a shame that you can’t see that you’ve been propagandised by the Israeli/Hollywood/MSM lobby over the last 70 plus years.

How come the thumbs up icon has a negative number?
I would have thought it could be zero or positive, the thumbs down can be zero or negative. Is something wrong with the counter?

When you upvote a comment with more negatives than positives you reduce the number of negative upvotes at the same time as reducing the number of downvotes. I know! Potty but there you have it!

These people defy belief, really. Just look at how brainwashed they are, those poor kids. Parents over the moon if their sons die a ‘martyr’. To describe them as a ”death cult” would be factually correct, in my opinion. I don’t care if it’s Gaza, the West Bank or what. It’s all Orcistan to me because they’re all cut from the same cloth;

”These children are NOT from Gaza — they are from the West Bank.

The Palestinian Authority doesn’t just teach children to kill others — it brainwashes them to KILL THEMSELVES.

To be “martyrs for Allah.”

Not entirely sure if these kids have been hanging there for 5 seconds ( for fun ) or 5 hours ( literal child abuse ), because who can tell with that lot?

My God, that is deeply disturbing. Profoundly disturbing.

This is what the West is up against, and this is who we are encouraging into the country.

We have reached make or break point now. We are at the fork in the road; do something about this to one side, and civil war to the other. Unfortunately, The Left/Uniparty are in government…

No such thing as ‘magic soil’, so they’re very unlikely to take on any sort of radical transformation in their attitudes just because they’ve moved over here. Especially with regards to their open hostility towards Jews. We’ve had many arrive here in the Netherlands, and I see that Belgium just got another load yesterday. Apparently most are here due to ”family reunification”. However, slightly concerning is the fact nobody actually knows the numbers because ‘Palestine’ isn’t a real country ( no such issue with the UK, thanks Starmer! ) and so they can’t go down on record as being from there. They’re stateless; ”There are no reliable figures on the number of asylum and family reunification applications from people from Gaza, according to the Immigration and Naturalization Service (IND). This is because the Netherlands does not recognize Palestinian nationality and therefore people from the Palestinian territories cannot be registered as such. Refugees from Gaza are registered as ‘stateless’ or of unknown nationality. “Since there are many more situations in which foreigners are registered with an unknown nationality or as stateless, we unfortunately cannot indicate how many people from Gaza have submitted asylum applications in recent years or whether there has been… Read more »

We live in hope that this, along with the deception about the Trump speech, will be the final downfall of the BBC.

I think all across the civil service and the BBC the presence of Muslims is probably somewhat higher than in the population at large, but crucially they are not afraid to use their presence to distort policy to further their sectarian ends, rather than attempting to serve the public at large.

This problem has to be fixed.

While Newsguard’s fact chuckers cause the Daily Sceptic an inordinate amount of bother, BBC Verify gives itself a free pass.

That’s the cognitive bias industry for you.

Its very simple, Panorama for example at the end credits lists everyone involved with the making of the programme which featured the fake news with regards to Trump and the incitement to hatred regarding Israel. Every single person invoved with those programmes should be sacked from the commisioning Editor through to the tea boy, the so called journalists involved should have all press passes etc revoked as they are not journalists but political agitants. Further up the laddder the head of news and Tim Davy should be removed. Finally Maria Spring or whatever her name is and her so called fact checking unit should be removed and disbanded. The BBC has now shown itslef to be a Political, ideological organisation disguised as an entertainment service. Whta is even more disgusting is that the majority of people are forced to pay for these “Citizen Smiths” who then use the public funds to fund hatred and lies. In summary sack all those mentioned above, and I hope Trump sues them for every penny. Privatise the BBC I am sure Al Jazeera would be happy to purchase, then they can open up a subscription service and truly find the value of their propaganda… Read more »

I think the BBC as cheerleaders for Hamas and Palestinian propaganda are responsible for much of the huge increase in antisemitism in this country.
we as a civilised world said “Never again” after the atrocities of the last war. A pity Hamas’s Lord Haw Haw didn’t get the message.

Have I missed the plot here? The BBC Arabic served bias towards the Palestinian perspective. How surprising! In case nobody else noticed, the hint’s in the name! Of course it is going to be bias, it’s supposed to be pro Arab, otherwise it will alienate its audience base.
