I Don’t Want 600 Illegal Migrants Moving into My Town
In a gesture to assuage mounting public and political disquiet at the use of costly hotel accommodation to house illegal migrants, Starmer’s Government last week announced with some fanfare that military bases would be used instead.
Camps in Crowborough and Inverness were identified for initial placements. Those who haven’t heard of Crowborough in East Sussex – where I live – will be rather more familiar with A.A. Milne’s Winnie-the-Pooh stories which are based in and around the Ashdown Forest – a large area of tranquil open heathland. The Crowborough camp – which was first established during the First World War and then used in WWII to prepare troops for the Normandy landings – abuts the forest. In the far distance can be seen the South Downs, which border the English coastline and the English Channel.
Crowborough itself is a mild, mellow Sussex town lying to the south of the better-known Tunbridge Wells and largely comprises attractive housing for families whose children attend seven primary schools and one large secondary school. Shockwaves therefore reverberated round the town last week when word spread via social media – rather than any official statement – that Crowborough army training camp had been requisitioned by the Home Office to house 600 illegal migrants.
In an information vacuum, rumours swirled and residents were gratified when Sussex Weald Reform swiftly organised a public meeting. Such was the attendance that the meeting had to be held in two sittings, with a third pending. A strictly apolitical meeting, none of the key players – including the local MP Nus Ghani – were present. Ms Ghani also holds the position of Deputy Speaker and, as such, is unable to ask questions in the House, which fell instead to Mims Davies MP and Dr Kieran Mullan MP from adjoining constituencies.
In the meantime, acerbic communications took place on Facebook between the LibDem and Green leaders of Wealden District Council and Ms Ghani, who claimed to have only learnt of the plan via the national press. In the face of fierce ongoing protest by the local electorate, all parties are now expressing opposition to the plan. What has emerged is that Wealden District Council will be paid per asylum seeker, and that Clearsprings – one of the triumvirate of companies making millions from providing and servicing asylum housing – will be running the camp. The Home Office claims that the contract with the MoD will be for just twelve months.
In the meantime, as the various agents wrangle with each other and disclaim responsibility for the decision, Crowborough residents remain extremely worried about the prospect of 600 males of mixed ethnicity being moved into the town. They will, of course, be free to come and go as they please, so any sense of ‘control’ derived from the ‘military camp’ name is entirely fallacious. As reports mount of crimes committed by illegal migrants, apprehension and fear rise commensurately.
Above all, residents feel impotent in the face of decisions made by official bodies, with the Crowborough situation being a microcosm of the situation in our country. Even as the 600 migrants are transported to the camp from Manston arrival and processing centre, given fair weather, another 600+ will arrive across the Channel. Where will they go? As the Home Office scours the country for other facilities to requisition, hotels will still be filled, HMOs will still be acquired and communities like this Sussex country town will be browbeaten by officialdom into accepting even more. From being a facility to prepare troops to defend our country, Crowborough camp will become a centre for a large number of foreign individuals of unknown provenance and intention. Such is the irony of this situation, and it is entirely self-evident that as long as our borders are uncontrolled, the influx will continue unabated and more and more of our country towns will be placed in a comparable situation.

Very few ordinary people want this – but time and again people vote for politicians that are in favour of open borders. The Lib Dem and Green local politicians in this case are being ridiculously two-faced.
Shocking how many people are still voting Labour, green communists and Lib Dumbs. A nation of stupid people we have become.
Shocked as we are by the numbers still voting LibDem, the polls suggest even more vote Conservative, albeit still only 16 per cent according to a recent report.
The “so called” Conservatives are just as bad.
My biggest nightmare is a LibDem/Green coalition sweeping to power on a Stop Farage platform. Reform is very exposed being entirely identified with one man whom (unfortunately) two thirds of the electorate have been indoctrinated to loathe. If only he hadn’t got rid of Suzanne Evans, Ben Habib, Rupert Lowe etc. etc. etc.
The only silver lining is that this will push more people to vote Reform UK.
Keep an eye on Scotland; the SNP are currently surging as Labour support has collapsed, but as their official line is “refugees welcome”, once the people of Scotland see what this actually looks like, Reform could see quite a boost.
Between now and the next election several hundred thousand more will have rocked up on our shores. WW2 lasted 6 years, while we have General Elections every 5 years. In that conflict the response to threats had to be rapid or in some cases before the threat could materialise. We did not have the luxury of waiting several years to change strategy.
Only the best of the best. And check out the part about the Muslim Brotherhood connection, for Pete’s sake. Coming to an HMO near you;
”An Egyptian man has been allowed to stay in Britain on human rights grounds despite committing 19 crimes since arriving in the UK.
The court also granted him the right to stay anonymous and protect his identity.
The 24-year-old arrived in Britain in 2016 and has committed offences including robbery, burglary, possessing an offensive weapon and drug offences.
He also served time in prison after assaulting an emergency worker.
The Egyptian argued that he was at risk in Egypt as his father was a banned Muslim Brotherhood extremist.
The court ruled that his deportation would violate the European Convention on Human Rights [ECHR].
Despite his crimes, the man has not been named to preserve the privacy of his mental health issues.”

FFS !!
Dont care. Human rights is made up nonsense. There are no human or animals rights in nature. Only hard edged outcomes for idiots and idiotic behaviours.
You’re very optimistic. If the Jockistanis are voting heavily for more National Socialist Democratic Alba Party (NSDAP) then when will the thicko’s ever learn?
The SNP (Stupid Numpty Party) control Highland council which has expressed strong concerns over Cameron Barracks housing 200 economic migrants. Presumably yet another case of “refugees welcome somewhere else”.
There was a small protest outside the barracks last week during which Union Jacks and Saltires were attached to lamp posts. The council immediately announced they’d be removed asap. An SNP run council taking down Scottish flags, you couldn’t make it up, are they now seen to be as racist as the English flag?
Very apt – From army camp to insurgency HQ.
We shall welcome them on the beaches, we shall welcome them in the dinghies, the hotels and the army camps, we shall always surrender.
The mass migration is framed so that it is an uncontested ‘truth’ that all these males of fighting age are coming in regardless and it is just a question of where to put them and how best to make them feel at home, including giving them advantages that working class generations have spent a good few hundred years trying to achieve.
I wouldn’t want them anywhere near me, either. The thing is, as parents we’re meant to give our kids gradually more and more independence as they get older, let them stay out a bit later and just go and do their ‘free range’ thing ( as long as they’ve got their phones ) with their mates, but at this rate parents will be going back to square one and not wanting to let their kids out of their sight like when they were little. That’s how I’d be, anyway. There’s enough concerns within society about trying to keep your kids safe without known criminal, creepy, pervert, stabby men on your bloody doorstep. And what bright spark ever thought this was a good idea? At least they’re getting their English lessons somewhere more appropriate now, I should think, thanks to ‘people power’; ”Dozens of youngsters were pulled out of classes by furious parents after migrants were being taught English in the same building during school hours. As many as 70 children are said to have been removed from St James’ Primary School in Renfrew when it emerged the language lessons had been taking place after a large group of men were… Read more »
I drive past this camp sometimes and it is right on the edge of the town but there are some nice houses there that will see their values plunge. Indeed one owner was on GBN to say this has ruined plans to downsize and fund retirement, but of course the Far Left government hate people like this anyway.
Some of the nearby million £ houses have gardens which link to the forest. It may be possible for migrants to walk through the woods into their gardens.
Accommodating vast numbers of alien, paperless men of fighting age in hotels was always bound to provoke the public. In order to address these objections these irregular migrants will be relocated to Ministry of Defence establishments designed to train regular soldiers and other military personnel. Have I understood this correctly?
You have understood correctly. Obviously some of these might have finished their conscription time a few years ago so they will probably require refresher training courses.
Given the incompetence of governments in Britain I suggest someone checks if the arsenals at the military base were properly emptied out.
The authorities could helpfully open a click and collect service on site for deliveries of sharp implements from Amazon for the occupants. The usurpers must not be deprived of anything. That would be grossly unfair and against their human rights.
No more walking the dogs across Ashdown Forest then.
Military camps should not be used. We should build new prison camps to house these unwanted dangers to our people. Barbed wire fences, tear gas and tasers must be available to the guards. And the inmates must never be let out into wider society nor given money or phones. Basic food and accommodation and simple entertainment only. Make them work for their keep, too.
Sick of feminised rules and policies leading to dead and injured British people.
Provide they’re secure and the inmates aren’t allowed out to terrorise local communities then unused military barracks would be cheaper, quicker to bring into use and Imo better than new prisons.
Even with a sensible government it’ll take a few months for every potential migrant to get the message that the UK is no longer open for taking the piss and a similar length of time, or longer, to force countries to take back their citizens or find another country that can be bribed into taking them so we’d have to accommodate thousands of people for a certain length of time
Build them if you must but not in Britain.
The migrant army is building strength.
Starmer likes to call them ‘irregulars’, just like mercenaries.
The old parties brought us huge immigration and bellowed the advantages of multi-culturalism. They failed to heed the opposition of the public and now find it convenient to bemoan one of the consequences. Perhaps the leafy constituencies in the south of England will begin to enjoy the advantages of un-integrated (aka multi-cultural) communities as we in Epping have done recently – ie, not.
So let me get this right, you understandably dont want these people in your “back yard” but we have to have them in “ours”, the solution isnt wether they go into barracks, hmo’s hotels etc, the solution is every single one deported. They are illegal gimmigrants no matter what do gooders say, and deserve nothing, a genuine refugee is welcome, these parasites are not, in anyone’s “back yard”.
This isn’t going to end well. Sorry but it’s not. Just saying.
Well said Madeleine. We are also Crowborough residents and as well as being totally p—d off about how Gov and LAs blatantly try to override local people’s wishes, there is clearly no end in sight for all of this while illegal migrants continue to stream across the channel unhindered.
It’s a better move to put them in disused military camps than in 4-star hotels, but they should be confined to camp until they have cleared security.
During the War, our national treasures were moved and stored in caves and disused mine tunnels in Wales. They must still be available.
Why don’t we house them in MPs houses, the houses of Human Rights lawyers and all those who insist everyone who is against our cultural, social and economic destruction is a Far Right racist? They couid pay the expense too.
Most people accept certain levels of immigration as being just part of how the economy and the world works. But what happens when that “certain level” keeps getting bigger and bigger? What happens when the 750,000 added to our numbers with 45,000 arriving uninvited in boats becomes 2 million and 100,000 in boats, and then twice that again?
But if it is not the UK that controls its border and it is an International Court or Treaty that does so then there will be no limits to the “certain level”, and that is what we are seeing play out. Migrants are being stuffed into every town and village and every corner of the country. ——How long is this absurdity to go on? How long before we say —-NO MORE?
