Pressure Grows on Jess Phillips to Resign After “Calling Grooming Gang Victim a Liar” as Fifth Survivor Quits Inquiry

Pressure is growing on Jess Phillips to resign after she “called a grooming gang victim a liar” over a bid to water down the national inquiry and as a fifth survivor quits saying she has been offered “no support”. The Telegraph has more.

A fifth grooming gangs survivor has quit as an adviser to the national inquiry, saying she has been “overwhelmed” by the political storm around the process.

Gaia Cooper, who was repeatedly raped and exploited by a grooming gang at the age of 14, told the Telegraph she had been offered “no support” during the controversy – and told all parties to stop using the inquiry as a “political battering ram”.

She said “both sides are complicit in cover-ups and failures”.

Ms Cooper has withdrawn with the pressure mounting on Jess Phillips, the Safeguarding Minister, to quit over claims from other grooming gang victims that she had “betrayed” them.

Four other survivors who this week quit as advisers to the grooming gangs inquiry issued a statement on Wednesday calling for Ms Phillips’s resignation. She is in charge of setting up the inquiry.

On Thursday, Sir Keir Starmer was calling survivors to reassure them he is committed to an inquiry as he tried to fend off their calls to sack his Minister.

Survivors are concerned over the potential for the inquiry to be widened beyond grooming gangs, a block on speaking about the inquiry to others and the possibility of former police officers or social care workers serving as inquiry chairman.

In a letter to Dame Karen Bradley, the Chair of the Home Affairs Select Committee, Ms Phillips had claimed the idea that the inquiry’s scope could be widened was “untrue”.

The four – Fiona Goddard, Ellie-Ann Reynolds, Elizabeth Harper and ‘Jessica’ – said their “legitimate concerns” about the direction of the inquiry had been branded “untrue” by Ms Phillips.

“It is a betrayal that has destroyed what little trust remained,” the four said in their statement, as the Telegraph revealed.

They told Shabana Mahmood, the Home Secretary, that they would return to the inquiry only if Ms Phillips stood down.

In a letter to NWG, the charity running the victims’ liaison, Ms Cooper said that she did not “align” herself “with any political agendas” but said the inquiry was “dear to her heart” because it recognised the women who did not survive their experience of child sexual abuse.

She wrote: “I deeply hope that both sides of the political spectrum will have the good grace to support this inquiry with the sensitivity and care it deserves, and not to keep using it as a political battering ram. Let’s be honest, both sides are complicit in cover-ups and failures.”

She backed the other four victims’ calls for the inquiry to be led by a judge, suggesting Wendy Joseph, an Old Bailey judge who has overseen many cases involving vulnerable women, or Dame Carol Black, who has advised the Government on tackling drug abuse.

Ms Cooper added: “Numerous times during this process, which I agree is in its infancy, we have been offered counselling and support, but during this media storm there has been nothing, and that is the time I have felt I needed it the most.

“Due to the silence I had to speak to a journalist who I trust implicitly yesterday just to explain what is actually going on as, from NWG, there has been no statement. No emails to address any of it.”

The calls by other victims for Ms Phillips to resign has been backed by the Tories. Chris Philp, the Shadow Home Secretary, told the Telegraph: “Jess Phillips should resign or be fired, as grooming gang survivor Fiona Goddard has said.

“Jess Phillips called Fiona, a grooming gang victim, a liar – but Fiona has documentary proof she is telling the truth. It is shameful for a minister charged with protecting victims to have done this.”

Survivors are concerned over the potential for the inquiry to be widened beyond grooming gangs”
And rightly so.
It is very clear that the government would like to turn this into a generic “violence against girls and women by men” enquiry so that the ethnicity and religious background of the perpetrators can be conveniently swept under the carpet.
Otherwise the enquiry might find that sexual abuse and slavery are not, shall we say, entirely incompatible with the tenets of a certain religion.

Muslim sex Jihad and rape gangs.

This is how much the elite hates us and our women. They will protect Muslims, not white English girls.

They deny that 250K to 1 million white girls were raped in an ethnically targeted sex jihad – Muslims on white girls.

As you said, they want to have a discussion about ‘toxic masculinity’ which does not exist in the land of the furries, the faggots and lesbians, and abuse of females in general. Misdirection etc etc.

Evil. Loathsome.

Yeah, funny, isn’t it?
A bloke politely opening the door for a lady: outrage! Toxic masculinity! Smash the patriarchy! Educate your kids!
Muslim rape gangs systematically abusing young girls for many years: community cohesion! Vibrant multiculturalism! Diversity is our strength!

I always do this (also for men, BTW) because letting doors slam into other people is extremely impolite. The usual reaction is “Thank you” and nobody complained about it so far.

Exactly. I don’t think demonstrating courtesy towards others is sex-specific. I do it indiscriminately, including when I’m driving and cycling. Bit of an exaggeration by Major there, I think.

I opened a very stiff fire door that was half way down a corridor for a woman nearly half my age. I did it because I needed two hands to open the door. She was carrying a pile of papers: it must have been getting on a foot thick. And I received a mouthful of abuse!

I was more surprised than ‘offended’, I suppose, as it was the first time that I had encountered such a response.

It was in 1988.

So I could blame Margaret Thatcher. Prime ministers always get the blame. 🙂

And how many women have you held doors open for since 1988 that haven’t behaved like ill-mannered cowbags? It’s like me remembering the guy from 17 years back who was driving behind me, gesturing madly, giving me the ‘V’s, all because he couldn’t wait 3 seconds while I crossed a roundabout, then overtook me and carried on with his mentalist behaviour. Should I come away from that and tar all men with the same brush, ignoring all the perfectly polite and considerate male drivers out there, and adopt a:”Men are crap, unsafe drivers and are prone to road rage once they’re behind the wheel”? That’d be nonsensical and weird, wouldn’t it? But you get people like that. People who take an isolated/rare occurance and then carry that grievance around with them for life. These people aren’t normal. But it’s what haters do. Their hostility becomes pathological. You know the ones I’m on about. The ones who go:”Women shouldn’t be allowed to enter politics because Angela Rayner”. Which is on a par with me saying:”Men shouldn’t be allowed to enter politics because Keir Starmer”. These people exist and double standards is how they operate, because as soon as reality is acknowledged… Read more »

I have been roundly and soundly abused on occasion but I am a loud old ex-soldier with a fairly good vocabulary and a very sarcastic turn of phrase. The last time it happened I asked, ” Where did Madam learn her English? Polishing a lamp post in Bute Street?”. Bute Street being a notorious red light area near Cardiff docks before its gentrification. An old couple nearly choked laughing and the woman sped off. It is only good manners to just smile and say thankyou, whether you are the holder or the recipient.

Thanks for mentioning this, as I was wondering what this widening was supposed to refer to. This is obviously again left-wing politicians in different countries working from the same script: Just today, I saw statement from Heidi Reichinnek from the German party Die Linke¹ which claimed that migrant violence against women would be a non-issue and that genuine women were always of afraid of men because of male violence. We should really some day work out who’s providing these clones with their marching orders as they always march at the same time and in the same direction, regardless of which country they claim to be associated with. This was already highly evident during The Global Cold² when statements of German and UK politicians (and also politicians from other countries) were obviously just different translations of the same prefabricated statement. ¹ In 1949, the German parties SPD (Social-Democratic Party of Germany) and KPD (Communist Party of Germany) merged to form the SED (Unified Socialist Party of Germany) which would control the GDR until 1989 when it again split into its constituent parties, except that the part which didn’t merge with the FRG-SPD couldn’t used its original name as the KPD is… Read more »

That’s based on a German word play I made in March 2020,

Globale Erwärmung war gestern, hier kommt die globale Erkältung!

Unfortunately, this cannot really be rendered in English. An attempt could be

Global warming is so 2019, here comes global colding!

But while Erwärmung (warming) and Erkältung (cold) mirror each other in German, colding isn’t a word in English and

Forget about global warming, here comes the global cold!

isn’t as nice because of this.

Political expediency perhaps? Not concern for the many victims.

At the same time, Sir Keir Starmer also reassured the Muslim community that the enquiry will not upset them in any way and the Labour Party hopes for their continued support.

Committed to an Inquiry he didn’t want to hold?

Committed to an Inquiry which will, if carried out properly, confirm that the ethnic identity, region of origin and faith of the perpetrators is highly relevant.

Committed to an Inquiry which is very likely to identify a large number of “public servants,” mostly in Labour-held Constituencies, including many elected Labour Representatives (Councillors and MPs) who, at the very least, turned a blind eye and allowed it to continue.

Is the Labour Government working from a disaster movie script?

Wait a week, and a new disaster will befall it – there is no rake they will not tread on to bash them in the face.

Senator Kennedy said that AOC is the reason there are directions on a shampoo bottle. If only Ms Phillips could get her hands on one. Wash and Go used to be pretty straight-forward although apparently the conditioner element led to “buildup” – whatever that is.

So an enquiry that this government never wanted to hold in the first place is about to fall apart before it got going because the victims are refusing to take part. This has nothing to do with the Safeguarding Minister insulting and undermining some of the victims. Of course not. And as this is exactly the result Kneel requires she will keep her job.

How to hold an enquiry without ever holding an enquiry.

It was the witnesses wot done it.

I haven’t heard “chav” used for a very long time. I’m surprised it hasn’t made a comeback in woke circles as a way of smearing the, often, working class patriots who protest outside migrant hotels.

I’m not sure why any of the victims of these horrific crimes would want to have anything to do with a Liebour inquiry or relive their ordeal by giving evidence.
It’s obvious that all that’s going to happen is that the government is going to spend millions or tens of millions of pounds to produce a report running to a thousand or more pages that no one will read in full. The report will say mistakes were made, the victims should of been believed far earlier and authorities failed in their duty to protect often very vulnerable girls. The responsible authorities will offer gushing apologies, say that lessons must, and will be learnt, then nothing will actually change and no one in authority will face criminal charges or loose even part of their massive police/local authority pension.

It’s notable that the harpies with the loudest voices screaming about justice for women are the first ones throwing genuine victims to the wolves when it becomes politically expedient to do so.
How about women who have proved their worth in this area being invited to serve on the committee such as Rosie Duffield and the woman MP who was castigated some years ago for trying to raise this appalling situation.
There will be a complete cover up because the Labour Party would rather have all those poor girls re traumatised than upset the Muslim population, who by now are used to claiming racism and Islamophobia every time someone tries to call their appalling behaviour to account.
when you are used to exceptionalism, equality seems like oppression.

You might almost feel sorry for Jess Phillips. Her winning majority in her previous safe seat was drastically cut in last year’s General Election. She knows that her future tenure is dependent upon mollifying the Muslim block vote in her constituency, so is afraid to upset them by giving a national enquiry the teeth to address certain tribal and religious communities.

So, Ms Phillips, what matters most? Your Parliamentary career or exposing the truth of Pakistani Muslim grooming gangs?

(Still, I bet you get elevated to the other house, if all goes wrong).

Shame.
