Gaza Ceasefire Will Begin Tonight, Israel Announces
A ceasefire in Gaza will come into effect this evening ahead of the release of the remaining hostages after the first stage of a peace agreement was signed by Israel and Hamas this morning. The Telegraph has more.
The deal, signed in Egypt at 10am BST, will lead to a pause in the fighting, the release of all 20 living hostages in a matter of days and an Israeli military withdrawal from the majority of Gaza.
Israel’s Government will vote on the terms of the “first phase” of Donald Trump’s 20-point plan at 5pm BST.
A substantial majority in favour of the deal is expected, despite opposition from the hard-Right, including Bezalel Smotrich, the finance minister who is pushing for the continuation of the war until the total defeat of Hamas.
Once the deal is approved, Israel will have 24 hours to complete its partial withdrawal from Gaza to an “agreed upon line”, including pulling back from Gaza City.
Hamas will have 72 hours to release the surviving hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. The terror group also has to release the bodies of 28 hostages.
A source familiar with the issue told the Telegraph that the hostages are expected to be released in one go, “as soon as possible”. …
In a call to the remaining captives’ families on Wednesday night, the US President told them: “The hostages will come back, they’re all coming back on Monday.”
Under the terms of the deal signed at midday Israel time (10am BST), the hostages must be released within 72 hours, however its unclear exactly when this will take place.
An Israeli official told Reuters that 20 hostages are expected to be released Sunday or Monday.
Mr Trump, who signalled he planned to fly to the region as soon as this weekend, hailed the “historic and unprecedented event” as the first step towards peace in the Middle East.
Sir Keir Starmer on Thursday expressed his “profound relief” for the hostages and for the population of Gaza who have “endured unimaginable suffering” and called on both sides to keep their promises.

That’s certainly good news but I can’t help feeling that this is one of those fundamentally unresolvable conflicts that will sooner or later resurface.
As far as I can see, the problem is Islam.
It is fundamentally incompatible with any other way of life, as its declared aim is military conquest and the annihilation of its enemies.
That’s not just a problem for the Jews. It is also a problem for the Christians, Hindus, Buddhists and atheists.
Until Islam renounces that doctrine (and I don’t know how it could do it without rejecting the teachings of the Quran), the fight will continue, even if there is a temporary truce.
I’m not about to buy a holiday cottsge on the Gaza-Israeli border.

Sure. It doesn’t bother me, I’m just curious.
I accept that there are people out there who think that Islam is the religion of peace and find this entirely coherent with its propensity to blowing up people in concerts and chopping up heads. I guess they might even downvote me.
Back before only Daily Sceptic members could vote up or down, I used to regularly get substantially more downvotes than anybody else, but I never once complained about it. It never bothered me, and I never questioned it, or issued challenges about it, or wondered who they were, or why they had done it … because it was their right to do so, without explanation.
Some DS commenters used to get so upset by even one measly downvote that they began calling for all Downvoters to be “Unmasked”, like dragging them before the Inquisition! It was ridiculous.

Fantastic news! But I hope the world will notice that, in exchange for the remaining 20 living Israeli hostages, and the bodies of the dead, the Hamas Muslim Terrorists will receive:
“nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners: 250 of whom are serving life sentences, and 1,700 others detained since the start of the war”. All alive.
Now we see the real reason behind the October 7th Hamas Muslim Terrorist Attacks on Israel: to seize helpless, innocent Israelis, even children and babies, dragging them into Gaza to force Israel to release 2000 Muslim Criminals & Terrorists held in Israeli prisons.
I hope there are other parts of this peace deal that will compensate the Israelis for this glaring injustice of getting 27 dead and 20 living Israelis in exchange for releasing 2000 Palestinian Muslim Terrorists to continue terrorizing the world.

Good news, although some reports suggest that the IDF have been stepping it up towards the potential ceasefire. A bit like selling now before the shutter falls.
One side has a business model, the other side has a drain on resources. It is the fault of the West that the business model flourishes.
Hamas, or whatever it rebrands itself, is not going to give up its business model:
Only the West can end this, either by stopping the aid, or by providing military aid to Israel.
The West must stop ALL foreign aid.
We’ll see what Hamas comes up with to accuse Israel of bad faith, breaching the agreement and hanging on to some/all the hostages.
And in any case, it will sooner or later be business as usual attacking Israel. Leopards, spots, etc.
And just like that there was no more genocide to scream about and nobody was starving any more, in such a timely manner;
