Badenoch Vows to Scrap Climate Change Act

Kemi Badenoch will promise today to scrap the “failed” Climate Change Act – which enshrines the Net Zero target in law – if the Conservatives regain power. The Telegraph has the story.

The Tory leader is vowing to repeal the “failed” Climate Change Act 2008, which sets legally binding targets to make the UK a net-zero carbon emitter by 2050.

It would pave the way for the Tories to scrap electric car targets, as well as plans to phase out gas boilers and replace them with heat pumps.

Mrs Badenoch said: “We want to leave a cleaner environment for our children, but not by bankrupting the country.

“Climate change is real. But Labour’s laws tied us in red tape, loaded us with costs, and did nothing to cut global emissions. Previous Conservative governments tried to make Labour’s climate laws work – they don’t.

“Under my leadership, we will scrap those failed targets. Our priority now is growth, cheaper energy and protecting the natural landscapes we all love.”

The proposals, which would be the biggest shake-up of Britain’s climate laws for a generation, come amid growing pressure within Labour to water down Net Zero plans.

Ed Miliband, the Energy Secretary, spoke on the final day of Labour’s conference, claiming the party’s opponents were using Net Zero to “stir up division”.

There is speculation that Rachel Reeves will seek to curtail Mr Miliband’s Net Zero plans in an attempt to boost lacklustre growth.

The Chancellor pledged this week to support “homegrown energy”, including oil and gas extracted from the North Sea.

Mrs Badenoch’s announcement is the first in a policy blitz as she uses the Conservative Party conference starting this weekend to outline her vision for the country.

She will gather her shadow cabinet on Friday to approve proposals to take the UK out of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) to tackle the small boats crisis.

Too slow to the party and will be resisted by the closet LibDems within the ranks.
Zero credibility after 14 years of broken promises.

Indeed but perhaps “if the Cons EVER regain power” would be more on the nose.

Climate change is real (it has changed over the past 4 billion years), man made climate change is pure invention. So Badenough is still hedging her bets.

Voters don’t like political leaders sitting on the genre.

Badenough late to the party again, but just like the rest of the ConTories, she’ll soon be gone.

What were her views when her party was in power?

Or voting for what she was told to under the whip, even if she didn’t believe in it; that’s normal in Parliament, unfortunately.

She says they would repeal it but it’s not specifically mentioned in the extracts whether they would replace it with something else

We want to leave a cleaner environment for our children, but not by bankrupting the country.

Another idiot who conflates pollution with greenhouse gases.

For a fist full of roubles

Climate change is only real in the sense that the climate always changes. It is as important to stop using Green terminology as it is to tinker with the law.

Too little, too late, and only an Opposition Politician’s promises.

It will be interesting to see if the promises still exist after the Conference.

Tice’s letter to renewables investers had a far greater impact, as evidenced by the level of opposition reaction.

Does anyone seriously think the Conservatives will be in a position to do this after the next election? Still, perhaps Reform will be able to count on their support in Parliament.

No

No Kemi, climate change, as believed to be caused by man’s CO2 emissions, is NOT real.

Tory “vows” are two-a-penny, and their promises are as thin as pie crust.

Attention Kemi: you seem nice enough, but nobody is listening because nobody believes anything the “Conservative” Party says.

PS. Hair braids are so Viking era.

Previous Conservative governments tried to make Labour’s climate laws work”

Er…no, they didn’t. Actually they made Labour’s Climate laws even more severe, increasing the reduction in carbon emissions from 80% to 100%.

And Teresa May has today condemned Badenoch’s statement as a “catastrophic mistake”.

Looks like it is not safe to believe Kemi’s claims that the Conservatives have seen the light.

Yes, even if we were to take Kemi at her word here, this policy is not going to survive the Conservative Party’s inevitable leadership change (coming some time soon?)

Aah … Lady May,as we must now call her.
The worst Conservative Home Secretary & Prime Minister ever.
Who can forget her 10 year tenure at the Home Office when she got rid of so many police?
Or her meaningless slogan “Brexit means Brexit ” which she then did for level best to destroy.
And then her supreme achievement: the passing of Net Zero into law without a vote.
We have so much to thank her for.
NOT

Not to forget Traitor May’s signature of the UN Refugees act allowed many if not unlimited numbers of refugees into Britain. She signed this without even discussing it with Parliament!

But when they still say climate change is real you know their belief system is still governed by fake computer simulations.
