Wes Streeting Says Nigel Farage is “Racist”
Health Secretary Wes Streeting has said Nigel Farage is “racist”, joining Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson in using the insult of the Reform party and its leader. The Mail has more.
The Health Secretary pointed to Reform leaflets targeting Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar, suggesting he would “prioritise the interests of the Pakistani community”.
“If Nigel Farage allows that to go out from his party, what does that make him?” Mr Streeting told Times Radio.
Mr Farage has dismissed Keir Starmer’s claim that Reform’s immigration plans are “racist”, branding it an insult to the British public and evidence that the PM is panicking about the polls.
Deep divisions have emerged at the top of Labour over the attack with Sadiq Khan insisting he would not use the “really loaded word” about Reform.
“I don’t call the followers of Reform racist, I don’t call Nigel Farage racist,” the London Mayor said.
But Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson, when asked whether she thought Mr Farage was racist, said: “Because many of the things that he does and says, I think, drift into racism – it’s hard to escape that conclusion.”
Asked during a round of broadcast interviews this morning whether he thought Mr Farage was racist, Mr Streeting said: “Well, let me put it this way, because I don’t have a window into Nigel Farage’s heart and soul.
“I remember the leaflet that Reform put out in Scotland in the by-election that said that Anas Sarwar would prioritise the interests of the Pakistani community.
“If that leaflet directed against a proud Scot of proud Pakistani heritage was not racist, then I don’t know what is. And if Nigel Farage allows that to go out from his party, what does that make him?”
Mr Streeting added: “I think there’s a climate in this country at the moment of a level of racism that we have not seen for a long time.”

Is this the new anti-Reform strategy from Labour – try to insult the insurgent party’s poll lead away? If so, it’s unlikely to work. The public have largely been immunised now against the Left’s name-calling when it comes to immigration. They just want the borders brought back under control.
Stop Press: Starmer has said Nigel Farage “doesn’t like Britain” and is a “snake oil merchant” in his conference speech. Farage responded that the remarks were a “disgrace” that risked the safety of Reform politicians, accusing Starmer of inciting violence from “the radical Left” against his party.
Stop Press 2: David Lammy has had to apologise to Farage after falsely claiming he once “flirted with the Hitler Youth” – despite saying he was “not going to play the man”.

Technically, I believe that it is not illegal to prefer your own race in Britain – not yet anyway. It is discrimination that is illegal.

Perhaps the counter to calling Farage a ‘racist’ is to call Streeting (or Starmer etc.) a ‘globalist’. Globalisation – not just the integration of national economies and unfettered immigration, but also submission to ‘international law’ and international organisations.
But unfortunately for Labour globalism, although still powerful, has lost its lustre. One size does not fit all so they are pinning their authority on a failing idea.
Now if you were to call Farage a ‘localist’ then there may be some truth in that label – but it works for him as much as against him.
They appear to be too thick to realise this is exactly what is what causing them to lose voters to Reform, one of many reasons.

Remember the golden rule of the DS Echo Chamber: “Rules for thee but not for me”. It is always acceptable for people to demonstrate or even admit to being racist*, but it is NEVER allowable for others to point this fact out and challenge them on their views. When voting in elections, it’s perfectly legitimate to study a candidate’s background and affiliations to assess how you feel they will serve their constituents, and which groups (or “communities” within the constituency) you think they will support the most if elected. If they’re from a socially deprived background, will they prioritise the needs of such constituents, for example? It’s not unreasonable to extend that appraisal to their gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity and so on. They normally talk about such things anyway in campaign literature, so they must accept that it’s important for voters to know. Under such circumstances, discussing someone’s ethnicity should not be criticised. Rather, it should be supported as an important element of a functioning democracy.
And when they win, they’ll comply with the Party whip, most of the time. At least they might deal appropriately with local constituency matters.
If preferring to live among people who share my values and cultural history while preferring not to squander £billions of taxpayers’ money on immigrants both legal and illegal who do not share those values makes me a racist, then call me a racist, I am proud to be one.

I do find it amusing when politicians accuse others of various shortcomings. If they knew the contempt in most of them are held (to varying degrees) they would be more restrained in their condemnations. But ignorance and arrogance seems to be a prerequisite these days for anyone chasing a seat in parliament. I can understand why they do it during their conferences when they are trying to encourage their troops but they seem to forget that their ravings are being broadcast to the wider electorate who look on them with a mixture of amusement and disbelief.
Ad hominem usually results when your opponent has a weak argument or no argument at all – reminds me of the playground when I was twelve years old!
