The Decline of Climate Week NYC Shows the Net Zero Dream is Dying
As New York City hosts Climate Week NYC and the Global Renewables Summit 2025 this week with much fanfare, the absence of major global leaders at these events speaks volumes. Dubbed by its organisers as “the world’s largest climate event” alongside the annual UN General Assembly, it boasts over 1,000 events and a theme of ‘Power On’ to rally climate action. Sixteen years after its first ‘climate week’ in 2009, the event is meant to represent a high profile gathering of senior representatives of government, business and NGOs to provide momentum for the upcoming UN climate change conference in Brazil (COP30) in November.
Yet the guest list tells a different story: only three heads of state of relatively minor countries — Kenya’s President William Ruto, the Bahamas’ Prime Minister Philip Davis and Antigua and Barbuda’s Prime Minister Gaston Browne — are confirmed. This is a far cry from the global heavyweight presence one might expect. The unelected Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission and Brussels’s chief green cheerleader, is also expected to attend.

The term NGO is pretty Orwellian.
It is a non-governmental organisation that nonetheless strives to govern us by… influencing and directing public policy of governments.
In my more normie days, I thought the US democratic system was a bit compromised by all the lobbying. And of course it is.
What made me a sleepwalking mormie, of course, was failing to realise that in Europe NGOs fulfil pretty much the same role, but in a much more insidious way.
At least the Americans are straight-forward and honest about what they do. We pretend our politics isn’t influenced by big money, when actually, it’s probably even influenced even more through the power of the these NGOs.
NGO is basically government by stealth.
I guess the difference is that many European NGOs are funded by not for profit or charitable trusts (and often the state takes our money to match fund them) and people somehow believe that only people motivated by profit are bad and the rest couldn’t possibly be biased or have a preset agenda regardless of the evidence.
Charlotte Gill has been investigating the funding of some influencing organisations and there is a more structure to how these NGOs are funded than you might expect and definitely more than there should be.
She does good work
As long as they don’t get public money they are free to do what they want, but what I find frustrating is that leftists and liberals don’t seem to think they exist or do much, compared to the evil capitalists.
Agree on the concept of free to do what they want but with the proviso they are clear on funding sources. Said organisations are anything but clear as her work shows.
I’m not sure about that
I usually want to know how organisations are funded before I lend my support but perhaps it is up to people to demand that information rather people being obliged to reveal it
If an influencing organisations is not obliged to reveal how it is funded, why should be able to have influence or indeed, even have a seat at the virtual table?
Whoever they are trying to influence ought to be asking how they are funded. I think I would agree that government agencies and MPs should be obliged under their terms of service to establish sources of funding for any such organisation.
When it is actually the other way around. One should be incredibly suspicious of people that seem so motivated to help others and make careers out of it.
Not that there is anything wrong with helping others, but for practically all human beings doing well themselves is the primary motivation (I just dont see how those who don’t prosper in the evolutionary game).
With the NGO people therefore you have to guess at their real motivations. With people who work for profit, it’s very clear. Much more honest.
100%, would much rather deal with people who have normal, obvious motivations like making profit
It’s getting harder for the Eco Zealots to explain why the devastation they’ve been predicting for decades hasn’t occurred; and why the windmills aren’t providing the promised cheap, reliable energy.
You can fool some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time. But you can’t fool all of the people all of the time.
(Actually, I don’t think you can fool all of the people even some of the time …. as the Covid Tyranny proved. Even against the most carefully organised and orchestrated propaganda/brainwashing campaign in history, there were a great many people who weren’t fooled. Enough to fight back).
Yes about 10-20% of the pop have critical thinking skills. 80% are brain dead. I love arguing with zealots about the ‘moon landing’ and Armstrong’s U$ 15 million net worth when he died. I can present about 100 scientific facts that disprove the landings but the moon zealots, like the mentally ill gays and tranny’s, cannot tolerate the truth. World-views and self esteems shattered. So too with the Rona plandemic. I use that to wind them up before explaining 9-11 and the DEW that was used….’Science’, from Virology, Relativity to Evolution mostly a massive pile of horseshit.
President Trump’s speech to the UN yesterday is utterly compelling. I watched it live on GB News in stunned amazement (and gratitude), then again on the GB News website. He calls the whole thing a scam and a joke. Funny, the BBC isn’t showing it. He also deals with London, its mayor, sharia law and illegal immigration among many other things. A truly great speech.
Just got my latest electricity bill. It contains a “Rota Disconnections Alpha Identifier”.
EDF helpfully explain this on their website. It seems they are actually getting ready for the net zero power cuts this winter.
https://www.edfenergy.com/help-support/power-cut-guide
“Sometimes it’s necessary to carry out a process of emergency planned energy outages across the country. These are usually rare and are at specific times reacting to an emergency. Like water rationing, when there is a drought, the government will need to take action if there is less electricity available.
The action taken to manage this effectively is called the Rota Disconnection Schedule…
Disconnections are carried out by group – your electricity supply is grouped with other properties in your area. Easily find your group at the top left of your energy bill. Look for a letter from A-Z next to your address in bold. Once you’ve found your rota disconnection letter, you can visit energyemergencies.org.uk to view the schedule.”
Ah, “Rota Disconnections”, eh? Who would have thought that destroying a number of ~2GW power stations would lead to a need for “Rota Disconnections”?
I take it you have a “smart meter”?
Thanks for sharing this. Ed’s dark, cold, dystopian vision of our future, where nothing can be relied upon to work. Electricity is now a life support and any talk of interruption of supply is insane.
Where’s Ed?
Hiding.
Until these organisations can address reality they are destined to fail – miserably!
Just a dose of Climate realism would help, like proper grown up discussions about actual weather events that are happening, and how to best mitigate them, with sensible and costed solutions.
Despite what our opposition thinks of us, we are not all mindless zombies intent on destroying the planet. But lets address the real; issues, the pollution of the soil, sea and air, which is not being done by the average person, but by Corporations and some nations, the real polluters.
Its time to put a stop to this insane idea of Net Zero, unless the aim is for zero pollution, and for clarification CO2 is NOT a pollutant.
Lets discuss instead what the Hell they are doing up there in the atmosphere, what crap are they actually putting up there and why? What we are seeing up there is not what those of us old enough to remember, recall seeing on clear days!
Bit of a surprise Mad Ed’s not there, getting his vacuous grinning face on the news.
