School Accused of “Brainwashing” Children After 14 Year-Olds Told to Read Book “Blaming Them for Their White Skin”

A parent has accused a secondary school of “brainwashing” after he learned that 14 year-old pupils were told to read a book that “blames them for their white skin” – and his daughter was forced to read it out loud. The Mail has the story.

James Farquharson claims students were being fed “partisan political views” after the novel, The Hate U Give, was added to the Year 10 reading list at Budmouth Academy in Weymouth, Dorset.

The 53 year-old said the book was making some students feel guilty about being white and left his daughter “embarrassed and uncomfortable” after was told to read it out loud.

He has also accused the school of double standards as it has a zero-tolerance stance on swearing yet the book is littered with four letter expletives, including the F-word repeated 89 times.

The US novel, which has since been removed from the school’s reading list, follows an African-American girl who speaks out after witnessing a white police officer shoot her childhood friend.

Mr Farquharson said he has also questioned the appropriateness of another book that was being read out aloud by children aged 12.

He said the book, called Pigeon English, explores sexual themes including female masturbation and is so “creepy” it raised safeguarding concerns for the children reading it.

The books are part of the Drop Everything and Reach (DEAR) initiative which aims to get people to read for a short period everyday.

Mr Farquharson has now written to the Headteacher at Budmouth Academy seeking an urgent review of the titles on the school’s reading list.

He said it is not about banning books but about giving students access to books that are appropriate for their age.

He said: “I found out about this last week when my 14 year-old daughter said she and her peers were having to read (The Hate U Give) out aloud.

“She felt embarrassed and uncomfortable about it.

“‘I looked through it and read the first 150 pages and thought ‘really?’

“It is full of bad language, it normalises sex and drugs, and is centred on identity politics, namely race, which blames her for her white skin.

“It is divisive and is centred on issues of blackness and whiteness.

“The school shouldn’t be addressing political issues with students unless they are going to balance it with the counter-arguments.

“It is neo-Marxism being slipped into our children’s minds, not by outright political lectures but via fiction.

“It is being incubated in their minds that there are goodies and baddies who in this case are the white kids.”

Worth reading in full.

Bit of an aside, but still on the topic of schools, maybe parents want to scrutinize what their kids are being served in schools and universities because this is concerning. Can’t Muslims just eat fishfingers or bring a packed lunch, FGS?? Vegetarians have to find alternatives ( of which there are plenty ) so why not Muslims? Here’s a quickie from Lewis;

”One of the most common tip-offs we’ve received since launching the whistleblower unit, is primary schools and universities serving only Halal meat.

We have contacted the establishments for comment, but have received nothing back.”

I need to ask, before I go: is there such a thing as vegetarian Muslims? Also, are there Muslims that are concerned about animal welfare and object to non-stun slaughter and the cruelty this involves? I’m just wondering if such people exist. I mean, does it say anywhere in the Koran: ”As an obedient, good Muslim, you MUST eat meat and it must only be of the Halal variety”? Just curious…

For a while my son was best friends with a Muslim boy. When he came to his birthday party the mum said they were vegetarian. I think she was being honest.

Thanks for getting back to me and that is good to know that they do actually have a choice in the matter and aren’t forced or pressured to eat this type of meat. I think it speaks to the rationale behind Katherine Birbalsingh and her decision to make her school pescatarian. I know in theory it shouldn’t have to be this way but perhaps when a school reaches, say, 50% Muslim, for example, I’d rather a school went the way of Katherine’s, and do away with meat altogether, as opposed to the other way and make it all Halal. And let’s keep some perspective: kids are only having their lunch at school. Surely to goodness Muslims can wait and have meat for their tea when they get home. It’s only one meal. I obviously think ALL non-stun slaughter should be banned because animal welfare standards should be upheld and standardised for all, no exceptions. But many countries are pandering to the minorities, and it is important to remember they’re minorities, though it may not feel like that in many towns and cities where there’s a high concentration of Muslims. No prayer rooms, no cruel meats, no banning of anything to… Read more »

Jeeves would agree with your last sentence! And apart from that, I agree with everything you say. They are minorities, the trouble is that they’re just very shouty minorities that have infiltrated all our institutions
At least as a parent who’s not totally skint I have the choice to say I’m not going to subscribe to this and send my child with a packed lunch instead. Families with children on free school meals have no such choice.

This issue was first formally raised back in the 80s, and four decades later one can clearly observe the outcome. The weaponisation of postmodernistic academic theories is having a devastating effect on western democracies – no doubt, all by design.

Is it not time for a criminal prosecution test case against schools, head teachers, governors and teachers involved with unbalance and party political biased teaching. Is there a school in the country that is not infected with left wing and woke bias, anti-Brexit and anti-capitalist teachers.

When my daughter was choosing her A levels in 2018 she considered English Lit. Well the syllabus was strikingly free of Dickens, Shakespeare, Chaucer or Austen. But it did have a load of literature dealing with ‘the immigrant experience’ (and we can guess the stance that would have been taken).
She didn’t choose English in the end, much to my relief.

What I don’t understand is why masses of parents aren’t following James Farquharson’s courageous example, joining together and kicking up about the Satanic Effluent being forced upon their children in school.

He is being a good parent to his children.
What are the other parents doing?

Off topic: Who is responsible for consistently changing the punctuation guidelines in recent months (apparently both here and in the Telegraph) to remove the first hyphen when giving ages? This article is a case in point: ’14 year-old children’ refers to fourteen separate individuals, each aged one. If you’re referring to a group of children aged 14, you write it ’14-year-olds’.

Farmers at market need to know if they’re getting 14 prime young cattle (14 year-olds) or an unspecified number of old cows (14-year-olds). Language use may change organically over time, but why deliberately make an unnecessary top-down change that actually makes the meaning less clear?

Less clarity is their objective.

Just look at today’s MET Office article.

The Teacher should be disciplined for this, it is indoctrination and “brainwashing” of young and pliable minds. Is it any wonder we have an explosion of mental illness in this country when frankly sick adults in the teaching profession are taching our children to hate themselves either for the colour of their skin, their gender, their Britishness. Isn’t it starange that if these same things were forced to be read and read out loud about other races or religions there would be a vast outcry from Labour, the Press and of course the lovely liberals on the Left. But bully and mentally torture a white british child, thats fair game isn’t it? All that will happen hear is there will be a mealy mouthed non apology from the school head, with utterances about diversity and multiculturism etc and the same teachers who inflicted this cruelty will remain in place.
