Shame on the Centrist Commentators Who Piled on ‘Sophie of Dundee’

Last month, shocking footage emerged of a 12 year-old girl in Dundee, Scotland, brandishing a knife and axe while being filmed and confronted by a foreign man. “You’re f****** battering kids mate,” says the girl, who we now know is called Lola Moir. “Don’t touch my little sister, she’s 12,” says a taller girl, her sister Ruby. The cameraman advances on the girls, demanding repeatedly in a thick accent that the younger of the two “show the knife”. Eventually she produces a knife and an axe.

The incident, naturally enough, went viral, symbolising for many the lengths white British girls have to go to in order to protect themselves from seemingly predatory migrant men. Indeed, in what many saw as a classic example of the UK’s ongoing anarcho-tyranny, it was the girl, Lola, not the man, who was first arrested, for carrying the weapons. Dubbed ‘Sophie of Dundee’, she was soon being hailed as a Braveheart character by figures including Tommy Robinson and Elon Musk.

The girl sounded scared to me. The man was clearly provoking her to show the weapons on camera. I wonder what his motives were for the video and what occurred before he started recording.

I seem to remember reading that he’s Roma, not ethnic Bulgarian, The name Ali certainly isn’t a Christian Bulgarian name.
There was a third girl involved in the incident who ended up in hospital with a head injury.
I welcome this article except that it doesn’t go far enough in debunking the defence that grew up around the ‘Bulgarian’ who has since been arrested..

On first viewing strikes me that the girls are the aggressors and the Romanian is just calmly trying to get a picture of the knife to show what they are like

Well maybe give it a second viewing and put yourself in the shoes of the young girls. I certainly don’t go around the streets filming and goading young girls. As you can see the immigrant has now been arrested. Doesn’t that tell you something?

That he’s coming after two girls obviously trying to get away from him while yelling at them certainly suggests that he was extremely frightened by the seriously dangerous situation he found himself into.

NB: That’s sarcasm. The video documents a grown-up men harrassing two you teenage girls which wouldn’t be a match for him even if they were actually armed with something they could only use at the relatively puny length of their arms. The guy is clearly in a fit of rage he considers to be perfectly righteous but it really just demonstrates that he’s a foul tempered chap with only a very thin layer of civilization painted on the surface.

Why doesn’t he effoff as asked then? Why is he filming minors? If he’s being aggressed why is his tone so provocative and smug? And lastly.. are you ffing deaf? The girls are telling him he them which makes him is a kid batterer. So who’s the aggressor?
The girls are appealing to a common level of decency amongst the civilised of this country: you don’t hit children or girls.

Fraser Mayers was a disgrace during Covid as he pushed Covid ‘vaccines’ for children hard, despite all the evidence of the downsides. He has never apologised. Brendan O’Neil should have moved him on years ago.

Freddie Sayers normally does better but has made a big mistake here. There must have been a lot leading up to this incident. Young girls don’t usually, (ever?), decide to go out and threaten adults minding their own business. If they did they wouldn’t be sounding as distressed as they did.

Spiked and Unherd need to raise their game.

I’m ending my annual subscription to Spiked after far too many weak stances like their take on young Lola, they’re a bit too Lib Dem these days for my tastes.

Tom Slater never misses a chance to have a go at what he calls, ” the very online right” and Brendan O’Neill never shuts up about Israel and antisemitism.

Unherd have always been sneery to people that they consider to be their inferiors, very New Labour.

I used to subscribe to both Spiked and Unherd but have ditched them both. Spiked got the boot because of Brendan O’Neil’s push for jibby jabs for Care Home staff and for which he has never apologised. Unherd got the heave-ho for one too many lefty articles.

The Conservative Woman
The New Conservative
Freespeech Backlash (not yet a paid subscriber)
Off-Guardian
UK Column News
The Light (newspaper)
Together

I also check in to Dr Mike Yeadon’s Telegram channel, Global Research News, The Expose, Zero Hedge.

Miri AF has an excellent blog which is always worth a read.

Frequent daily peeks into Guido Fawkes’ blog helps keep me up to date with Westminster nonsense.

The Critic magazine.

Bournbrook magazine.

There are scores of other alternative outlets that I dip in to and all of the above inevitably provide links to other interesting channels.

If you need links let me know or message me through the DS website.

Good luck.

If you have any time left after reading all of those I’d like to recommend a Substack by Firas Modad called Modad Geopolitics. He’s a Lebanese Christian analyst based in the UK and covers a ton of areas that don’t get much coverage over her and he updates frequently.

Well done Laurie for looking more critically. You are right that many middle class people find these adolescent girls distasteful… too uncouth, too wild… and hard to sympathise with. Children who have grown up in chaotic, neglectful and possibly violent homes are simultaneously aggressive and desperate for love and attention. Perfect fodder for unscrupulous men. Frequently not believed. Easy to dismiss.

Very hard to judge but my experience tells me there is usually considerable truth in what children say if they are kicking off. Hope someone gets to the bottom of it for the sake of these girls….as the article says we need to learn from the ghastly details of the rape gangs.

AnneCW
AnneCW

I remember at the time articles were saying the girls could be linked to a local gang, as if that was a good reason to dismiss what they were saying. Like all those girls in care who weren’t believed about the rape gangs because they’d been in trouble themselves. I went off the rails a bit when I was about these girls’ age, but because I was raised in a loving, stable, middle-class family in a peaceful rural town, that didn’t involve violence, gangs, crime or any of the other dangers more prevalent in their environment.

It’s quite common for supposedly ‘right wing’ commentators to rush to identify with supposedly non right wing causes, in an effort to ensure they are not perceived as predictable robots in their commenting and careers. A DT commentatator told us that the Rochdale rape gangs had ‘absolutely nothing to do with Islam’, a view which can quickly be destroyed by consulting the scholars and the ex Muslims’ testimonies. The right/centre right/centrist block is terrified of being identified as culturally conservative and common sense. The Bulgarian and his wife: why were they approaching the Dundee girls at all, surely a form of harassment and threat or provocation? There is really no right wing intellectual group in British politics since the right, especially if we include the heirs to Blair party, will always seek to the appease left wing ideology which is why we now have the Uniparty system. Feminists now attack ‘the right’ for highlighting immigrant rape statistics as ‘racist’, that most sinful and evil of labels of which this ‘right’ is most terrified – the victim girls take second place at best, and the grooming gang victims of Labour Councils and police are themselves considered trouble makers and slags, whether… Read more »

The Terfs only care about the trans subject, I haven’t heard them even talk about the rape gangs and yet the right still panders to them but the fact is that the Terfs are hardline feminists who despise men and most of them are pretty left-wing on every other subject.

The right should boot them to the kerb and no longer associate with them, they are enemies, not allies.

Please see my post above. I was struck by your previous comment some days ago that you thought the weapons looked like toys, which seemed likely, because of the way the slightly-built little girl raised them so easily, and stowed them away later in her trouser pockets so quickly, which would cause her an injury if they were real sharp blades.

Idiot Leftists also called what looks like a kitchen bread knife a “machete”, showing that they’ve never even seen a real machete, like those wielded by the Muslim Gangs roving through English streets after the Southport protests.

Thanks to Laurie Wastell & the DS for telling the truth about this! Here is a summary of what those with access to social media said, after watching the video testimony of Ruby’s 13-year-old friend who was there, which was partially featured on a Dan Wootton video. I have never been on social media, and have no access to it unless someone else provides a direct link. I’m only passing on what I’ve gathered in defence of those brave girls, and cannot vouch for the details. After Ruby’s friend had gone swimming with her at a local indoor pool (hence Ruby’s apparent swimming costume in the video), Lola rang them and asked if they wanted to meet up at the park, so they did. As they were walking past the Bulgarian Muslim and his sister, the man approached little Lola and harassed her with comments, calling her “sexy” several times, which made all the girls angry, and Lola brandished her weapons in self-defence, having experienced this kind of harassment before from Muslims, while Ruby tried to protectively push her away from the man, and shouted at him to leave her little sister Lola alone. What the video didn’t show was… Read more »

The charges have not yet been announced, and knowing our justice system, they may try to use a mental health excuse, or give him and his sister (not his wife, who is pregnant) a lesser charge. I’m only passing on what I heard.

You are right— there is no war in Bulgaria, and no reason at all for him to claim asylum here, or to be given a council flat. No doubt they used the pregnancy to get the flat.

What we need is a sort of untouchables division of home office investigators trawling through the records of all foreign born individuals either on benefits or in council housing, and getting all their leave to remains and asylum grants rescinded unless there is overpoweringly good evidence that it is justified (ie brain surgeons etc) and getting them all kicked out no ifs no buts no appeal.

On the platform previously known as twitter, a user called Aesthetica has published reports based on information from the girls and another witness.
A girl called Ruby was assaulted by two migrants, and spent time in hospital with concussion. It was after this assault that Lola tried to scare off the migrants with the knife and axe.
“we described the vicious assault where the sister of the migrant violently attacked Ruby unprovoked, yanked her to the ground by her hair, then her and her brother “The Gypsy Gangster” proceeded to kick her head in while she lay defenceless on the ground. You’ll also recall that this is what motivated Lola to pull out the Knife and Hatchet to scare off the violent migrants and save her sister’s life.”

Thanks for that confirmation of the Bulgarian and his sister attacking Ruby. But it happened AFTER she sent her little sister Lola home to protect her.

That’s why Lola was not there to protect Ruby from them later, because Ruby had sent her home so she wouldn’t get into trouble for brandishing the weapons.

Fantastic stuff. Good to read journalism holding other hacks to account for selling out. The Mail piece is interesting – they must have been following orders, but from where? As for Aberdeen University Professor’s daughter and professional feminist Stock, shame on her. Not such a women’s champion if they’re not of the bien pensant class it seems. I watched the footage in slow motion with no sound. It is revealing. What becomes apparent is that the taller girl is interceding between them. She then gets out her phone and her left hand goes up to cover her right cheek – the delayed reaction of someone who’s been hit or slapped. As she is brandishing the weapons the first girl shoots anxious glances at her sister and around her, and then walks off, only to return and confront the man again. At this point you can see the sister’s arm and hand appear between them, palm facing the man, interceding again. Why intercede with a strange man that’s hit you? The obvious explanation is that the man was known to her. There seems to be an emotional angle to this appeal. How did he know her? My bet is that Mr… Read more »

The cartoon picture of ‘Sophie’ that accompanied Kate OBE’s piece for Unherd looks like part of a storyboard for a new Harry Potter film where the girl has become a Pictish berserker in the House of Sturgeon.

Aside from that, like all propaganda posters, this drawing is not necessarily untrue. It’s a truth heightened in intensity and one dimensional. Instantly encapsulating an entire issue in an image. Irritating to the intellectual sort of mind that wants to compartmentalise and classify, and debate ‘nuances’ – those excuses for calling a spade a spade.

In this case, the slop came from the Unherd kitchen; the picture was worth a thousand words and the pen not mightier than the sword.

Kate the Philosopher made a nice try of it in her piece for Unherd. She refers to ‘Asian rape gangs’. Evidently, we must we go through the lecture again. Does ‘Asian’ mean Chinese or third generation Ugandan Indian? At least the ‘rape’ part was accurate; ‘grooming’ is no longer remotely tenable. The particular kin group involved elsewhere in these ‘gangs’ acts as a kin group, not as a territorially-based gang of lowlifes from Dundee’s Coldside. And the other characteristic of this kin group is a motivating factor in their targeting. It’s not all ‘just’ misogyny, Kate. Kate’s namesake, Katie (Lam) helpfully read out some of the court transcripts to the serious of the Commons, just to make it clear what the convicted perpetrators’ motivation was. In her Unherd piece, the Philosopher writes: Sexual exploitation of minors has been rife in places like Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Dundee for decades — if not centuries — without the authorities getting a proper grip on it; and the perpetrators have usually been homegrown. It will have taken centuries for the homegrown gangs to tally up the 1400 victims in Rotherham. If the total figure is tens of thousands across the country in 20 years, there… Read more »
