Labour Council Leader Forced to Resign After “Calling Grooming Gang Victims White Trash”
Labour Council Leader Dennis Jones, who appeared to call Rotherham grooming gang victims “white trash”, has been forced to resign. The Telegraph has the story.
Dennis Jones was suspended by Peterborough’s Labour group following the revelation of his WhatsApp message to a young woman.
Independent Councillor Daisy Blakemore-Creedon, 19, said she received the comment last month after writing to him: “I care about safety, and why should immigration put women’s safety at risk[?].”
On her X account, she shared a screenshot of a message labelled from Mr Jones, which read: “Oh so white British cops f—ing poor white trash in Rotherham is OK, is it? Get a f—ing grip Daisy.
“You are aiming for populist votes and attention. Forgive me but you are bright enough to know what you are doing and, politically, I wish you no luck at all. But you know what you are setting out to do.”
Ms Blakemore-Creedon responded: “The phrase ‘white trash’ is demeaning and classist. It dismisses victims of grooming gangs as if their suffering is less serious or less worthy of respect because of their background. That is completely unacceptable, especially from someone in public life.”
Mr Jones remains a councillor and will serve as an independent, pending an investigation.
Ms Blakemore-Creedon, who quit Labour in May over alleged bullying, said: “I’m slightly disappointed that we haven’t seen a full resignation and that he will be sitting as an independent. But for now that is a good outcome for all victims of grooming.”

Another one down the flusher. Marvellous.
“Mr Jones remains a councillor”
More a floater, than a flusher.
It’s actually a good thing that he said what most Leftists think about the Working Class, because now they cannot hide it anymore.
And this is the Labour council leader?
I suspect what he said is common currency in Labour circles.
Indeed – Lucy Powell [good riddance], Jess Phillips etc.
Charming guy.
The Labour Party must be proud of him.
It’s good to see the madleft revealing it true ideas, because the madleft idea of racial trash – peoples which are not on the “right side of history” and who have to be exterminated – is a very longstanding one in madleft circles. It accounts, for example, for the large number of ethnic cleansings and population destructions in the Soviet Union. It is also the impulse behind the contemporary madleft’s desire to replace the native peoples of our islands with foreigners. And it also accounts for the madleft’s visceral loathing for our national flags. The madleft see us world poisoners who are fit only to be race replaced.
Am I the only person to whom it seems obvious that this is sarcasm? It appears to me that the question is clearly rhetorical, with implicit answer “no, it’s not okay”. He wasn’t dismissing the victims as “white trash”, but implying that she was.
It should always be remembered that words’ meaning can only be fully discerned when they are seen in their broader context, which in this case is lacking. Even the question “why should immigration put women’s safety at risk[?]” is ambiguous here. Is this asking why immigration should be allowed to endanger women, or is it rhetorical and implying that it doesn’t? (From what little context is available, I think it’s probably the latter, but it’s impossible to be sure)
I see your point, but the fact that a Labour councillor has been forced to resign from a council leadership position is all I care about.
It’s dangerously easy to totally misrepresent someone by taking their words out of context. And it’s deeply concerning that anyone could be forced to resign over it.
First they came for the Labour councillors…
I completely agree. This was clearly sarcasm. He was saying that this 19 year old councillor saw the girls as white trash, not that he did.
Huh. My comment questioning whether he was a paedo was removed. Interesting…
His mistake was saying what Labour really think. So much for their claim to represent the working class.
Gosh, I remember when an Obama’s chief of staff appointee, called Rahm Emmanuel, told a group of female gov’t employees to pull their tampons out and get on with their jobs. What a class act. He did not get fired by anyone.
