Labour Government’s Popularity Crashes to New Record Low as Markets Ramp Up Borrowing Costs
The Labour Government’s popularity crashed to a new record low of minus-59 yesterday as markets ramped up borrowing costs following Starmer’s side-lining of Reeves and drafting in of hard Left economic advisers. The Mail has more.
Keir Starmer suffered an unhappy birthday today as the Government’s popularity slumped to a new record low and investors hammered the UK.
YouGov found Labour’s approval rating has slumped to minus 59 – with 70% dissatisfied with their performance and 11% satisfied.
The net figure was down five points on a week ago, and the worst the firm has yet detected.
The grim numbers emerged after the PM desperate reshuffle ‘sidelined’ Rachel Reeves and sparked a frenzy on markets.
Government borrowing costs have spiked to 27-year highs as investors bet Labour will need to borrow more as the economy slows and MPs clamour for more spending.
Gathering his new-look top team in Downing Street for the first time this morning, Sir Keir stepped in to stop them serenading him on his 62nd birthday.
Sir Keir – who has admitted he does not like to be reminded about his age – ordered a halt after several ministers started up the tune.
The dramatic overhaul yesterday saw Sir Keir poach the Chancellor’s deputy to become his own ministerial enforcer and install two economics experts in No. 10.
The move came after alarm that the premier was ‘blindsided’ by the Treasury on plans to slash winter fuel payments and curb benefits – which ended in disastrous U-turns.
But the Tories warned that Left-wing “tax fanatics” had been brought in to conduct a “radical socialist takeover” as Labour faces a black hole of up to £50 billion in the public finances.
MPs have been heaping on pressure for ‘wealth taxes’ to fund fresh spending splurges.

I’m fed up of articles implying or directly blaming Truss.
She was taken down by the globalists.
If guilty of anything, it was not being prepped for the savage attack from MSM, Bank of England and the blob.
Had she been PM, it’s likely her policies would have succeeded.
Please desist dissing her, implied or otherwise.
Well said, Neil.
I am no particular fan of Liz Truss, but that was clearly an organised coup.
That the Bank of England did not tell her or Kwateng that they were unwinding some to the 2008 quantative easing by selling off bonds at the moment of her mini budget was criminal. Was it incompetence or deliberate? That nobody seemed to be aware of the dangerous LDIs that the pension industry had embarked on spoke of a failure of regulation once again.
Subsidising everyone’s utility bills was stupid though. In the end, that’s what destroyed her 🙁
Sadly I think she had the right ideas but was too keen to impress so rushed out the mini budget that was used to bring her down. Much was said of her not consulting the OBR but we can guess what this Blob orientated leftie bunch would have said and given their track record of being wrong you can understand why she didn’t.
It looked as though she wanted to stimulate economic growth and make the UK less beholden to outside agencies, so of course the Blob did not like it. At the time I felt the problem was one of presentation and of changes being introduced too suddenly. However, seeing now how the Blob works I suspect they would have brought her down sooner or later anyway. She had a belief in a sovereign UK that we hadn’t really seen since Mrs Thatcher.
And… uniquely these days… she was trying to help the population. That was her sin, it would have been at the expense of the money lenders on the steps of the Templevof Greed. Couldn’t have that so one their cronies had to replace her who would put their interests first.

The end is coming soon. Either they support the workers and taxpayers or they support those on benefits and the migrants.
Ironic that it will come down to Trump and Putin to decide if Europe is worth saving.
From the Fabian website http://fabians.org.uk/about-us/:
We are affiliated to the Labour party and work very closely with Labour politicians, as well as influencing debate across the political spectrum. Every Labour prime minister has been a Fabian and today 100s of Labour politicians are members of the society, including Labour leader Keir Starmer MP and more than half his cabinet, as well as senior figures in devolved and local government. Our elected executive committee currently includes five Labour frontbenchers.
The Fabian Society is a socialist organisation which aims to promote:
So I’d guess it is not a matter of who they support but the Fabians supporting the group that promotes their aims the best. It used to be the working man.
President Trump has made it clear that he will not stand behind Europe unless Europe first stands up for itself.
Putin’s Russia, its economy stuffed by an incompetently managed war that it cannot afford is now the client state of a China itself wobbling economically.
It seems that Europe only survives by the simple expedient of having hopeless leaders whose only quality is that they are marginally less useless than some of the worst leaders that the world has ever seen.
Last time I looked the military operation in the People’s Republics was going very well. Luhansk is free while between a third and three-quarters of Kherson, Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia have been cleared while the Ukrainian forces are on the edge of collapse.
Loving the humour ‘Luhansk is free…’ Putin still occupies less of Ukraine than he did immediately after his invasion….at huge cost in blood and treasure…a terrific effort…..not. ‘The key point, well understood but incomplete, is that Moscow is making very slow, if painful, gains. There have been moments recently when Russian forces moved forward hundreds of meters, especially toward Pokrovsk, a key town in western Donetsk. Moscow has announced for weeks that it would “soon” take the town, but it has not, as Ukraine regained territory north of it and crack Ukrainian troops moved to the area to push the Russians back. In the air, Moscow continues its savage war on Ukraine’s cities and civilians, which causes weekly casualties, but with little strategic impact. Meanwhile, Ukraine’s ever-growing drone capability—in both distance and explosive capacity—is wreaking havoc on Russian hydrocarbon installations, transportation hubs, bridges, railroads, weapons depots, and strategic industries. This is already having an impact on Russian oil supplies. Shortages are being felt throughout the country—even in the far eastern port city of Vladivostok—and are also magnifying the pressure on industrial production, which has been battered by high inflation and interest rates. Putin’s notion that he can inevitably take a good bit more territory—reflected in much Western media reporting—does… Read more »
Apparently reliable sources talking about 1.7 mln MUA/KIA for Ukraine, conscripts with 2 days training and 4 hours life expectancy at the front.
I admire Trump’s efforts to call a halt to the whole vile business and if the price is the Donbass well that is just a recognition of the reality.
And here ends the BBC News for today.
Remember to have a look at: https://yougov.co.uk/about I.e. what the organisation is etc. With numbers like that, there is no point in betting on any general election over the next few years.
Why do people still refer to Liz Truss’s mini budget when the damage was caused by the BoE.
Results of polls can be dismissed by politicians as a matter of perception that may be managed. Market results and borrowing costs are also matters of perception but they have real impact on expectations and cannot be managed so easily, if at all.
Recall in Road Runner cartoons where the coyote runs over the edge of a cliff and keeps running in the air briefly before gravity drags him down? Coyote Keir perhaps?
Except it is just his mouth continuing to move
Starmer has one job (it seems) – to utterly destroy this Country in every way possible.
To destroy our economy, our culture, our health, our beliefs, our religion, our morality, our unity, our hope, our history, our prestige (such as it was) – everything!
And it seems he has almost the perfect team to achieve it!
It’s interesting that the countries that had communism imposed upon them are now doing quite well after finding themselves in the economic gutter. Whereas the UK which has been drip fed the false socialist dream is, like the proverbial boiling frog, having to face the reality of communism.
But I do feel for the Central Europeans who after escaping communism are finding that the utopian European dream is falling apart, sadly many of them are just beginning to realise.
Frying pan and fire come to mind!
But its not the people, its their “elected” representatives, politicians are the problem, not the solution, just not enough people recognise this fatal mistake the electorates keep making!
It remains to be seen if Trump is really any different!
He is only carrying on the work of the treachery of the Tories as they did, in turn, the work of Blair.
Torsten bell is not an economic expert.
He’s a marxist stooge tax maniac happy to destroy what little is left.
No wonder borrowing costs are through the roof.
It’s ironic that Starmer, Reeves and their henchmen bleated at length over a supposed black hole of £2bn when they were elected, yet the second Hermer started waving his magic UNHR flag, these same individuals raced to give away the Chagos islands in which Mauritius has never had any interest whatsoever, historically.
And as if that alone wasn’t good enough, there was a sweetener of some £35bn for them to spend on anything they like. Big bonuses for their politicians, very likely and possibly even lengthy holidays for peanuts for our bunch of scoundrels.
So now they are wringing their hands on how to save some cash! What an incompetent rabble. I wouldn’t dare use the word ‘Traitors’!
be sure to check out and read carefully a petition on the uk government and parliament petition page…call an immediate general election..it currently has 873,935, signatures it urgently needs many more and you can help in getting them first be sure to sign it and most importantly be sure to reshare it widely all over the uk wales/northern ireland/scotland/england with as many like minded people as you possibly can and be sure to ask each one of them to do exactly the same as im asking you to do
