The Arctic Stays Frozen While Climate Science Melts
A mainstay of the climate alarmist movement is that the melting of the frozen Arctic Sea is a bellwether of anthropogenic climate change. It is a ‘canary in the coalmine’, warning of us of the peril of the impending catastrophe of our own creation. A few years into the new century, satellite measurements of the Arctic’s sea ice extent began to show what appeared to be a precipitous decline. If these trends continued, warned scientists, the Arctic would soon be free of sea ice in the summer. And that, warned population biologists, was a death warrant for the humble polar bear, whose hunting ground would disappear beneath her paws. Children across the planet wept as David Attenborough described the plight of these poor creatures on BBC natural history documentaries. But this week, it turns out to be that mainstay which is melting at a much faster rate than the ice. The climate debate is changing, and it is the unhumble climate scientists and activists that are in danger of extinction through embarrassment.
In the Guardian this week, environment editor Damian Carrington reports on a new scientific study published in Geophysical Research Letters. “The melting of sea ice in the Arctic has slowed dramatically in the past 20 years, scientists have reported, with no statistically significant decline in its extent since 2005,” he wrote.

Tropical flora and fauna have been discovered in the arctic from ages past. We have no idea about ‘climate’ or even weather. Not a clue. Assigning massive or incremental changes to plant food, 400 parts per million, of which human emissions are 20 parts per million is anti-science, anti-reality and is about money, power, coercion and the green Nazi religion. Idiocy all of it.
It’s all about Space Weather, particularly our Sun’s involvement, but we don’t know much about that either. 🙂
The climate catastrophists validate their models by relentlessly linking severe weather (which has always existed) to climate change. They don’t have evidence of the link, but the relentless insinuation is enough to convince most of the public.
But they also validate their models with completely confected metrics like global temperature which they alone define and control. The definition and measurement of “global temperature” is so completely subjective that they can make it whatever they want.
Not just global temperature but sea temperature. The average temperature in Britain. The average temperature of the Atlantic, of the Pacific, in the Arctic.
These are completely meaningless statistics because every aspect of them is subjective. The climate catastrophists who produce the statistics can literally make them whatever they want to make them.
‘Climate change’ is an observation, not an explanation.
Er, what? I think you need to explain what you mean a bit.
Excellent article and helpful video clips. The climate cult must be getting really fed up now:
GBR corals thriving in warm waters,
Polar bear numbers soaring,
Arctic Sea not doing what it’s told by politicians,
Rapid greening of the planet due to more CO2,
Hurricane numbers steadily coming down.
It almost as if the whole thing has been made up by psuedo-scientific grifters.
PS A couple of “Artic”(s) have sneeked in past spellcheck.

🙁 No place for Michael H.
Thanks HP (was beginning to wonder when we’d hear).
I agree, Michael Heaver would have been a much better operator than Dan Barker who’s only concern is to become an MP. Michael Heaver has a substantial YouTube channel which would have been a massive assist to Reform; perhaps that was an “issue.”
Seconded, thanks hux, keep trying Michael 👍
With trouble at the Arctic the climate science fiction bunch have moved to scary stories about Antarctica that are as usual fact free.
I was reminded recently how experts forecast hundreds of thousands dead in London within a few weeks of the start of WEII. Apparently they thought every German bomber would get through and accurately drop its bombs on ideal targets. All that despite knowing our bombers couldn’t reliably get within five miles of target on a good night.
What is being measured is sea ice extent (area), not sea ice mass.
The same mass of something, oil for example, floating on water can cover a larger or smaller area depending on current, air-flow.
Since currents on the surface and from the depths, and winds can either disperse ice, or pack it, this will alter sea ice extent.
It is a very unreliable proxy for global warming and the Pseudo-scientist Cilmatists know that.
More recently satellite observation of sea ice mass has started but not enough data yet.
Meanwhile the Trump government is attempting to set the record straight.

The current polar-ice stasis could of course become dynamic again, in either direction – but…so what? What the alarmists consistently fail to grasp is that everything – expansions & contractions – has happened before many many times, and will happen again, many many times. The only thing that might change permanently, as Ben Pile cogently points out, is our ability to protect ourselves from so-called ‘extreme events’, which decreases in direct proportion to the success of left/liberal forces in making us all poorer.
When one ‘Climate-Change-Crisis’ is proven wrong they then move to another ‘crisis’.
Anything to keep the money flowing to them.
