Record Number of Over-60s Referred to Prevent Amid Explosion in ‘Extreme Right Wing’ Views, eg Liking The Dambusters
Record numbers of over-60s are being referred to the Government’s troubled anti-terrorism scheme, as the definition of ‘far-Right’ is stretched to breaking point. The Mail has more.
Home Office figures show 127 adults in their 60s or beyond were put on Prevent’s radar in 2023/24 – the most since records began in 2016.
Of them, 43 had sparked alarm for expressing ‘extreme RExtreme right wing ideologies ‘can be broadly characterised as cultural nationalism, white nationalism and white supremacism’, officials say. Guidance published online states they also use violence to further their aims.
Yet free speech campaigners fear that anyone critical of mass immigration might be being wrongly labelled an ‘extremist’.
Last month, it was revealed how Prevent training documents listed sharing the view that Western culture was “under threat from mass migration and a lack of integration” was a “terrorist ideology”.

And in 2023, it emerged that popular British sitcoms, including comedies Yes Minister and The Thick Of It, were marked as ‘key texts’ for white nationalists, ‘Right wing’ views.
Even the 1955 epic war film The Dambusters and The Complete Works Of William Shakespeare were flagged as possible red flags of extremism by Prevent’s Research Information and Communications Unit.
Across all age groups, more than 1,300 people were referred to Prevent last year for ‘extreme Right wing’ behaviour, including 27 kids under the age of 10.
While ‘extreme Right wing’ referrals have been stable since records began in 2016, the reports for over-60s in all categories has more than doubled – rising from 59 in 2016, to 127 in 2023.
Over the same period, the overall number of referrals under the Islamist umbrella has plunged by 75%, from 3,706 to 913 – or 13% of the total.
Islamist terrorism relates to “the threat or use of violence as a means to establish a strict interpretation of an Islamic society”.
A damning public report warned in 2023 that Prevent had been experiencing a “loss of focus” as it had become distracted by far-Right cases, rather than concentrating on Islamists.
In his long-awaited 188-page report, William Shawcross claimed too many resources were being focused on Right-wing terrorism rather than its Islamist equivalent, which has been responsible for far more deadly attacks.
Since 2015, the law has placed public bodies, such as schools and the police, under a legal duty to identify people in danger of turning to extremism.
But the £49 million-a-year Prevent scheme has faced huge criticism over its failures in spotting Islamist terror sympathisers, including those with links to notorious hate preacher Anjem Choudary.
Southport murderer Axel Rudakubana was also missed, despite being referred to the deradicalisation body three times before he went on to knife three children to death in July 2024.

How can I get referred to Prevent. I would wear it as a badge of pride.
I’m just wondering how many are being shopped by those close to them. I think DS subscribers best be careful who they mention their involvement in this site to, just in case some people are not on the same page and want to play silly buggers or report you if they’re feeling vindictive; ”You’re best placed to spot when something’s not right with someone close. So trust your instincts and tell us your concerns in confidence. More important than any one sign is the feeling that something is not right. Friends and family are often the first to spot worrying changes taking place. These can be big or small changes that take place very quickly or over a longer period. Trust your instincts and if you’re concerned seek advice. The earlier you tell us your worries, the quicker we can get the person you care about the help they need to protect them from being groomed and radicalised. We’re here to help. You won’t be wasting our time. Often there’s no need for ongoing police involvement and the right support could be provided by teachers, health or social workers, or specialist mentors. FFS!
They’re basically encouraging people to snitch on family and friends, aren’t they? That’s how it comes across to me, anyway. Sneaky gits.
Why let the successful tactics of the Stasi and the DDR go to waste? Never mind that they are tainted at source.
I wonder how many of those over 60s mentioned were Reform voters. 😮
All of them
Hope they don’t think Farage will stand shoulder to shoulder with them.
They first taught it during the Plandemic.
Talking about the Stasi and the DDR reminded me of that great film “The lives of others”. I’ll have to look out the DVD and see if I can watch it again.
FFS ! Doubled.
Pathetic bastards.
Classic Stasi tactics
Let’s not give in to fear Mogs. Let the bastards do their worst. They can’t investigate and lock us all up
The Met can’t deal with even 10% of the crimes committed in the capital so they have to go after pensioner patriots. I know which cohort needs help and it’s certainly NOT the pensioners.
But do they give you a badge? Do they even tell you if you’ve been referred? How do you find out?
Me, me, me, I want one.
Your bank account gets frozen
Damnbusters! I knew there was a reason I shouldn’t have emigrated to France! It would be such fun!
On a serious note, after now almost two years of living in France full time, we are finding that strong debate amongst friends is still very much part of the French culture. It is understood that people are not supposed to smile and agree with each other all the time.
You probably have been, just for reading and posting here!
Me too!
Lke an ASBO! When naughty boys delighted in such an honour!
Someone should commission a badge to say “I should be referred to PREVENT”.
The avatar featuring ‘fist’ and a particular currency is probably enough.
I suppose the subversive organisation called “Prevent” is called so because the aim is to prevent people from exercising their right to free speech.
But in many ways it wreaks of hypocrisy in that the commies are always talking about “rights” when it suits them but resort to their authoritarian tyrannical ways when it does not go their way.
Reeks Bill, reeks
I use it as a transitive verb. So I stick with wreak in the sense of “inflict”. But I take your point. It smells too!
The Central Scrutinizer is watching you.
😀😀
Maybe all the DS readers could refer each other!?
I was curious to read the current AI and Googled definition of Extreme Far Right = EFT and it has one peculiar inclusion – a belief in authoritarianism. So OK if you’re a far right anarchist? Count me in
I liked the Dambusters and many other patriotic war films. I enjoy a good pint of British cider and a cheddar cheese and pickled onion sandwich. I can quote obscure Shakespeare texts, having studied it at school fifty years ago and occasionally performing it in amateur dramatics, when I possessed a copy of the complete works. I own books by Douglas Murray and fear for the future of my country. I resent that I worked from the age of eighteen but can’t get a NHS dentist and, because they have pushed the age that people start to fully contribute to society from sixteen to twenty one or more, will not get my pension at sixty five as I was promised. I think our city centres are now cess pools and avoid them at all costs. Are you digital spies in Whitehall listening to me yet and have I got my referral for this post. If not, why not?
Don’t forget, “The Heroes of Telemark”, and, “633 Squadron”. The first will also get you on a ‘nucular’* bomb making watch list.
*Heard a politician say that a few years ago. Can’t remember who or which flavour. Not that it matters. Ignorant Muppets, but not as cute or funny.
And the great escape.
I expect the Italian job is pretty suspect as well, you’re only supposed to blow the bloody doors off.
And of course zulu…
I’m only ‘extreme right wing’ because the left has moved so far leftwards.
It’s all relative.
They are on my extreme left, but I haven’t moved.
I don’t identify as ‘right wing’ at all. I have my views, I speak my mind and it’s up to others who feel the need to stick the label on me should they be narrow-minded enough to do so, because I’m sure as hell not going to make it easy for them. I hate labels. It’s like the women opposing the trans madness who have embraced the term ‘TERF’, which I think is very silly because you’re using the language of the enemy and it plays into their hands and empowers them. Why on earth do that? You’re just a woman standing up for your sex-based rights and emphasising biological reality. No need to call yourself anything in particular.
Much like members of the public in Epping were saying when they were interviewed while out protesting: I’m not right-wing, I’m just concerned about our kids’ safety and the way the country is going. It’s entirely possible to oppose immigration ( or any government pushed agenda ) and not class yourself as ‘right wing’. Left or Right doesn’t interest me, I’m just pro-common sense/freedom/democracy and anti-authoritarianism.
I fully agree, however we know they have to get people into the right ‘box’ so they can show what bad people they are – the ‘far right’ seems to be the preferred one, however the ‘far left’ don’t exactly have a strong track record themselves… apparently that’s ok
Yes it’s all about categorizing people so they can conveniently all be tarred with the same brush and then invalidated. It’s basically the denial that we are all individuals with our own legitimate and personal views on various issues. We must be all lumped together in a sort of ”If you’re not with us you’re against us” type of philosophy. They probably view us more as cattle, that need herding and controlling ( and culling from time to time ), than actual people with rights and self-determination. That’s exactly how they played it during the scamdemic, anyway, because the mask certainly slipped then.
Seconded 👍
I recognise that “right wing” will be the term used for the people and party I support but I have always rejected it. To me, the term referred to Greek Colonels and Argentine Generals. People who were xenophobic, economically illiterate, anti-democratic and politically naive; often violent thugs too. I do not think I meet those conditions.
The main right wing fascists, were socialists, namely Mussolini and Hitler. As far as I know the Right was used to categorise the left, centre and right of the socialist spectrum. In reality it was a fusion of left wing control of the means of production by rewarding those who control the means of production with lucrative contracts to produce what was required to wage war and suppress the general population. So it was easy to label these as right wing after the war, in reality it was to cover up the crimes of the left. Sadly most people fell for it.
This is why Stasi Starmer and the globalists prefer the WEF over democracy. It’s a rerun of what happened 100 years ago and it looks like it will probably end up the same way but with much more devastating consequences.
From what I’ve read from war historians it’s now virtually unstoppable. Lookup Betz.
Here’ a video of Betz talking. It seems that it doesn’t really matter what suppressive means the government use, It will either make no difference to the outcome or as I suspect make matters worse. We have a very bad government and they simply don’t have the brains to deal with this in an intelligent way, so the only route they have is intimidation and suppression. It doesn’t really matter any longer whether they lock us up or not. Reality has dawned on the population and it’s not looking good.

The sex-crazed Russian emigrant housewive who wrote some seriously bad novels wasn’t one of the greatest politicial thinkers of the 20th century and the NSDAP, just like Mussolini’s fascists, was a far-right/ right-wing political movement. The difference is that left-wingers want some kind of republic where the people rule through institutions carefully designed for this purpose while right-wingers prefer freestyle rule by born/ gifted leaders. In the 1920s, everybody called himself a socialist of sorts (even hardcore monarchistic nationalists like Ernst Jünger did) because the problem of the (relatively) impoverished masses of factory workers was a very real one and the real socialists had managed to exploit that for their own political advantage with great success. The difference between Hitler’s party and the more traditional right-wingers from DNVP was that Hitler wasn’t an elitist. While he was obviously in favour of rule by a hierarchically organized leader elite with a strictly top-down command structure and little or no legal limits to what leaders might command, he had realized that the success of any political movement in the real-world depended on getting the masses of workers on board by addressing their concerns. In the language of the day, this was socialism,… Read more »
If you listen to many commentators such as “Heretics” on YouTube they mostly say that insults and suppression do not come from the so called right, but invariably comes from the left.
in fact if you look at the whole question of immigration, it is without doubt a bunch of leftwing zealots forcing their views on immigration on other people. Unfortunately the left wing fools are being used by rich globalists such as those in the WEF to do exactly the opposite to what they really want, communism. It’s clear that the world is now being used by these tyrants to move people and labour around the world in order to create a modern day form of serfdom.
The problem in Central Europe is the direct result of these tactics. They simply don’t care how many people die, it’s their agenda and they will not stop voluntarily.
“I’m just pro-common sense/freedom/democracy and anti-authoritarianism.”
Same here Mogs. I must admit though that when I am amongst the intelligent idiots – sadly too often – I do like to wind them up with provocative comments such as “the country is full,” “covid was a scam,” “nut zero” is a scam. It provides me with a nice warm feeling.
I now have no idea what I am. Apart from right. Right so far, that is.
Right about most things.
Geriatric, right wing terrorist mows down Christmas Market crowds with Zimmer frame and folding walking stick. Bodies sent flying, injured lying everywhere.
Police and rescue workers left severely traumatised after dealing with the carnage. Starmer and Rayner visit and leave in tears. “Lessons will be learned”, they promise.
Sad but true, this government see pensioners as a bigger threat than terrorists. Lefties really are a bunch of expletives.
I have watched The Dam Busters many times and I love Yes Minister.
But which version of The Dambusters do you watch? Now what would you call a black Labrador? I had a black guinea pig called Sootie.
How long before the Daily Sceptic reaches the dizzying heights of being THE journalistic outlet most favoured by the most dangerous extremists?! Come on, Toby and Team, you can do it!
So the morons in control consider 60 ish year olds who have paid their taxes, brought their kids up , never broken the law , equal or more dangerous than various foreigners , most of which have dubious reasons for being on our soil who would genuinely cause more mayhem than any of our indigenous good souls !
Of course we are more dangerous to THEM and their WEF Great Reset Agenda. We have far less to lose than younger age groups and we’ve been round the block a few times and already lived through some dark times. Nice to know we have so much power and they fear us so much
You are right. I’m a despicable boomer, unfortunately a witness to the post war desolation in our country. So that spurs me on and I hope the number they imprison and intimidate is multiplied by 10,000. They will either get their original wish of older Brexit voters dying out quicker than they wanted or perhaps open up special geriatric wings in prison to keep us dangerous pensioners. Or maybe the sight of thousands of pensioners wandering around clinging to their zimmer frames with a police tag on their ankles which they can wear as a signal that they will not stand (or perhaps lean) by while the country is wrecked.
I wonder what they mean by “white supremacist”.
Aren’t they racist for saying that? Hey Prevent, come and get whoever said that
I suspect that they want to evoke images of white people whipping black slaves. There may be some white people who would like to do that, but not many
At the risk of being labelled kinky, I would prefer to apply, with vigour and enthusiasm, a nice rattan to 2TK’s flabby, white, and quivering arse.
Check out this leaked new Home Office anti-terror document. It’s terrifying.
Is it a spoof?
Very good!
😅 😂 🤣 That’s funny AF.👍
Excellent, I’m going to pinch that!
Love it, especially the JRM & Michael Portillo references. Portillo, the greatest PM we never had
By “cultural nationaliosm” they mean we do not agree with multi-culturalism.
Guy Gibson would definitely ‘flag up’ on Prevent. His insensitively named hound deserves to be exhumed to be given an exorcism.
And there’s that shockingly nationalist and religiously extremist film, Cromwell, from 1970. Not to mention that 1935 film, The Scarlet Pimpernel, in which the hero quotes Shakespeare to the agent of the republican regime.
This film should certainly ‘flag up’ as a marker of extremism, with the Prince of Wales declaring that if a country chooses to go mad it has the right to do so within its own borders. The very word ‘borders’ uttered in such a context would be triggering of extremism.
Zulu caught the imagination of kids in the mid ’60s. Are we all for arrest.
History is riddled with far right activity….

How long before we have to pay reparations for bombing Germany?
Darren Grimes posted this on FB today….
I firmly support categories one and two, and agree with the first sentence of category 3.
The race that gave birth to Newton, Shakespeare and Bach is straightforwardly better than all the others.
I couldn’t care less about “lack of integration” I don’t want ANY integration from non-white, non Christian people.
I might refer myself; I would like to see Prevent from the inside, to find out why they are so generally useless at the task they were designed to do.
Since the purpose of any organisation is its own perpetuation, Prevent will accept all referrals no matter whether made vexatiously or in good faith. Even if you refer yourself.
So basically anything relating to our native culture and history. Not right wing, just right
The Liberal Progressive insists that leftist ideology is all sweetness and light and that all of polite society should subscribe to it, but right of centre world views are dangerous and those people need to be monitored, silenced, banned and jailed. —If that isn’t tyranny then I don’t know what is.
On a positive note, we’re seeing the end for good of the Labour Party
I guess I can expect a knock on the door from Plod at some stage then.
If they can rustle any up down here in rural Dorset, that is. Usually they’re all desperately trying to contain the imported violence in oh-so-enriched Bournemouth.
The Dambusters is a great film, I don’t care who knows it.
Don’t you just LOVE to hate Prevent?
It’s the twin brother of the fake news BBC’s ‘Verify’!
Next it will be readers of the Beano who’ll be closely watched.
BTW, don’t be caught watching the film ‘Zulu’! And NEVER mention Rorke’s Drift, even if you’re Welsh!
What? You’re an old soldier? Then you’re top of Prevent’s list, you disgusting creature!
Don’t forget the Royal Engineer in command. John Chard. VC.
In the hypothetical situation in which someone asked me in the pub whether I would rather live next door to a white British family or an immigrant family from a very different culture with a different language, culture history, homeland and mores, what answer could I give ?
That’s a tough one.
I don’t care where the next door neighbours are from or what their culture is, as long as they respect Britain and it’s culture. But you’re right, I guess you have to be careful around the publican banter-bouncers.
This government and the previous one, along with their proxies, have shown such hypocrisy with the term ‘terrorism’ that the whole PREVENT thing is non-sensical. Look at the association of our government ministers, current and past, with Jolani in Syria – a member of a proscribed terrorist organisation (which the US are only now removing from their list).
Our own administrations deliberately used fear to coerce us into lock ups and injections of unknown contents – that is terrorism.
All this chaos and confusion is to lead us to the global technocracy, for which all our current legislation is preparing the country for – nearly every piece of primary legislation has reams of enabling clauses in it. The Local Government Reorganisation is going to devolve dictatorial power from central government to Regional mayors(dictators). Read the White Paper and look at the Bill.
Have a look at this piece of work from a think tank type of organisation – Dark Matter Labs – see the kind of thought processes that are leading to their Matrix:
https://darkmatterlabs.org/
Psychological terrorism of the masses needed to adopt these ideas? – what do you think?
So with “cultural nationalism” now encompassed within the definition of far-right extremism, surely the BBC should have been referred to Prevent for showing the Last Night of The Proms?
And anyone displaying a Union Jack outside their house during Remembrance Sunday?
Proud to be British? What an extremist!
Interesting isn’t it, that to be fit the definition of an Islamic radical you have to engage in or threaten violence, but to be bracketed within the far-right equivalent you merely have to express some vague form of nationalism!
I have a full set of The Famous Five books and a Winston Churchill Toby jug.
I will get a bag ready and wait fort the knock at the door from plod
Stick this in Prevent’s ears .
should give them a nice little meltdown:
