Asylum Seekers Handed Almost One Million NHS ‘Free Passes’
New figures reveal that almost one million NHS HC2 certificates, giving free healthcare benefits, have been handed to asylum seekers over the past five years. The Telegraph has the story.
The HC2 certificates give low-income residents the right to freebies not afforded to most of the public, including free prescriptions, dental care, eye tests, wigs and discounts for glasses, contact lenses and travelling to and from appointments.
But new data released by the NHS Business Services Authority under freedom of information laws, reveal that the majority – 59% – of the 1.56 million issued across the UK in the last five years, 920,199 were awarded to asylum seekers. …
Anyone can apply for the NHS low-income scheme to get a HC2 certificate regardless of their immigration status, as long as they can demonstrate they have low or no income.
Asylum seekers are automatically given a HC2 certificate if they are eligible for “section 95 support” under the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999, which means they are entitled to claim financial and housing assistance.
Other migrants claiming asylum are able to apply for it, depending on the levels of support they are receiving.
The certificate provides “full help with health costs”, such as unlimited dental care and prescriptions, vouchers worth up to £233 to spend on glasses, as well as refunds on any travel costs to hospital appointments.
Asylum seekers must renew their certificates every six months, rather than the 12 months that applies to other UK residents, making it hard to know the exact number of people claiming. …
There have been 317,000 claims for asylum from migrants within the UK over the same period, which is double the number in the previous five years, between 2015 and 2019. …
Anyone with an HC2 form can also get free care for their partner and children or dependents up to the age of 18.
Even if circumstances change, people are able to continue using the certificates to get all costs covered until it expires.

He appeared at Coventry Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Monday 28 July) after the Crown Prosecution Service authorised charges and has been remanded in custody. He will next appear at Warwick Crown Court on 26 August 2025.”
He’s just one monumentally vile oikophobe. There aren’t enough words to describe how utterly repulsive and traitorous I find this specimen. He needs to have a load of them dumped in his immediate vicinity so his loved ones can be harassed or attacked;

It raises awareness of where public money is being spent on favourable treatment of undocumented, unvetted mostly single young men who are being foisted upon this country, ostensibly in the name of “being kind” to “asylum seekers”.
For what purpose we can only speculate.
You can bet that the government would rather this information was not promulgated.
The whole thing feels like deliberate provocation. The government knows this unfairness will all come out somehow. I no longer take anything at face value. With no end in sight there must be a breaking point in the social contract, then what?
This is another story the lazy Telegraph journalists have taken from Lewis Brackpool and not given him any credit for, btw. They pass it off as their own investigative work but it’s actually him putting in all the FOI requests and uncovering this info. I think that’s really low and unprofessional, actually. I suppose nowadays being a MSM hack means just popping on Twitter for a few minutes to see what the citizen journalists have uncovered so you can use it for yourself. Top comment;

It’s not a National Health Service.
It’s an International one …. we’re paying for the world, his wife and umpteen “dependants” to get “free” healthcare.
The only upside is that this – along with the strikes by Marxist medics – will destroy the electorate’s love of “our” NHS.

Ironically, a migrant in possession of a HC2 certificate will be in the same boat* as nearly all English residents in that they won’t be able to find find a dentist prepared to register them as an NHS patient.
As a retired general dental practitioner I know that ‘high needs patients’ ie those needing lots of work/neglected mouths etc are the very last type of patients you want to take on.
All thanks to the disastrous 2006 contact forced on the dental profession bye the previous Labour gubberment, where, for example, the dentist gets paid the same amount for doing one filling or ten fillings.
