School Chaplain the Church of England Is Trying to Cancel Again… Six Years After He Said Pupils Needn’t Accept LGBT Ideology
In the Mail, Ian Gallagher reveals that the Church of England is still hounding Reverend Dr Bernard Randall – six years after he upheld its own teachings on LGBT issues. Here’s an excerpt:
For the past six years, Dr Randall, 52, has been on a Church of England blacklist, a casualty of the culture wars – a victim, as he sees it, of a grave injustice and “a perfect storm of failings”.
As it stands, were he to try to preach at a CofE church, he could face legal sanction. His crime? As the Mail On Sunday exclusively revealed in 2021, Dr Randall, school chaplain at Trent College in Derbyshire, simply gave a sermon to pupils, telling children they did not have to accept LGBT ideology – upholding, he says, the Churc’s own teachings on marriage.
Bizarrely, the independent school, which has a long Anglican tradition, secretly referred Dr Randall to the Government’s anti-radicalisation programme Prevent following the 2019 sermon – and later sacked him. Less bizarrely, Prevent saw no reason to take any action against him. Nor did several other official bodies which later considered his case. …
As chaplain, he told pupils that “you should no more be told you have to accept LGBT ideology than you should be told you must be in favour of Brexit, or must be Muslim”. He was, in part, reacting to campaign group Educate & Celebrate, invited by the school to teach staff to “embed gender, gender identity and sexual orientation into the fabric” of what they do.
After falling into a bitter dispute with the school’s bosses, he was sacked, then reinstated, only to be made redundant during Covid.
Despite being cleared of wrongdoing, Dr Randall, who is married with a daughter, was unable to get another job in the Church.
The Right Reverend Libby Lane, the Bishop of Derby – the Church’s first female bishop – refused to grant him a licence or permission to officiate because her safeguarding team decided he could pose a risk of harm to children. It raised concerns about how Dr Randall “would speak to and support someone who came to him if they were struggling with their sexuality”. …
He complained that the proceedings were flawed and Bishop Lane “discriminated against me on the grounds of my orthodox beliefs on gender and sexual orientation”.
But Archbishop Welby refused to allow Dr Randall to bring a misconduct case against Bishop Lane, despite being told by Gregory Jones KC the decision was “plainly wrong”. Mr Jones, reviewing the case on behalf of the clergy discipline tribunal, said Archbishop Welby had “misunderstood the scope of his powers”, adding that the Church’s “error” was “gross”.
The tribunal ruled that while there were “serious errors”, Bishop Lane personally did not have a case to answer. But it was decided that the Church “should look at this matter again and that it might well be appropriate” for an independent team to start from scratch.
And so, after waiting more than a year, Dr Randall found himself at a preliminary meeting last month with CofE safeguarding adviser Lee Elliot and Bishop of Repton, Rt Revd Malcolm Macnaughton, the Bishop of Derby’s deputy.
Bishop Malcolm read a statement which claimed the chaplain remained a risk based on what he might say in future sermons. Mr Elliott referred to Dr Randall’s Christian beliefs as “your views”.
Dr Randall responded by saying that his sermon reflected official CofE doctrine, not personal opinion. Mr Elliot went on to claim that saying “things that are controversial… could significantly lead to harm”, before abruptly ending the meeting. Dr Randall later told the MoS: “This has been six years of silence, shame and spiritual exile.”

Dr Randall, you are a decent man and clearly your faith is more important for you than your career.
You may want to consider the possibility that you are in the wrong church.
As far as I can see, St Paul is pretty clear: 1 Corinthians 6:9:
”Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.”
So there are only two options, as far as I can see.
1.) You reject the Bible and don’t think practicing homosexuality is wrong. (You are free to do this. Not only will you receive no penalties, the world will reward you for it.)
2.) You accept the Bible and also accept that practicing homosexuality is sinful.
But you can’t have it both ways.
2.) You accept the Bible and also accept that practicing homosexuality is sinful.
The Biblical position is actually a bit more subtle: It demands that individuals who seek to inherit the kingdom of God should refrain from certain kinds of sex acts. It says nothing about people who don’t: There’s no Christian justification for worldly persecution of homosexuals.
Only two or three Biblical commandment violations are crimes. Adultery (any sexual intercourse outside heterosexual Christian marriage) is not one of them. Unless you are a psychopath a guilty conscience rather than the law is quite a useful guide for those wishing to inherit the Kingdom of God. Has the CoE commented on Islamic views of homosexuality and transgender issues or did I miss that?
Well I would say that if you are not accepted into the kingdom of god there is only one other place for you. So it’s implicit in the statement that the penalties are severe, in fact could not be more severe.
That’s besides the point which was that the Christian/ Biblical position on male same-sex ‘relationships’ is that God demands that individuals avoid them but doesn’t demand that something particular is done to those who don’t.
Well f you are not admitted to the kingdom of heaven there is only one place left, the last time I looked it was called hell.
Edit: If however the sinner has repented then Corinthians 16:9 appears to forgive the sinner. So unless you repent you are denied entry.
These are the words of the Bible, not mine.
They key point is that God will judge this (probably at least) and God will not ask Bill Bailey do to it on his behalf while Bill Bailey is still alive on this earth.
Exactly right which is why I quoted the Bible. Please don’t try to twist my words to fit your position. Perhaps you should try to interpret the words I said, “These are the words of the Bible”.
I read my Bible daily, have done for over 40 years.
What Dr Randall is experiencing is the normal Christian life. The good news is the Body of Christ grows under pressure, always has.
The CoE was founded on sexual immorality by Henry VIII and has finished now because of it, reaping and sowing.
I left my local Anglican Church when we had a transgender ‘woman’ (bloke with lipstick) leading services. When I spoke I was warned not to mention Israel nor full immersion baptism.
God looks after His children, so Randall need not worry. Other doors will open.
The CoE abandoned the official product years ago. Stick to the straight and narrow Dr Randall and all will be well for you. The bullies will receive their own reward.
Indeed. John 15:20, for example.
My wife used to be CofE too but left a few years ago. She could see which way things were heading and couldn’t be part of it.
As you say, other doors will open.
God’s Church cannot be destroyed, only human institutions.
The CofE was established because the Roman Catholic Church was a political force seeking to influence who governed England, in fact the historical context on this is clear and all you have to do is read up on Wycliffe, Tyndall and many others. Of course Wycliffe is mentioned on the monument to Jan Hus which is in Old Town Square in Prague. Hus was executed in the 15th century for daring to question the validity of the corrupt RC church. Unfortunately, like most things these days the truth is hidden in plain sight.

The NHS is beyond embarrassing and is a national disgrace. But we knew that already;
“Only people who have internal reproductive organs have the ability to become pregnant”.
”Because of the gender ideology that has infected our healthcare system, NHS Trusts put up posters like this to avoid men thinking they might be pregnant.
Utter madness.”

A bit more madness…Are they really phasing out this due to it being seen as politically incorrect? Would, say, a Muslim be offended if they were asked this?
”Almost every public-sector DEI training I come across claims that it’s a ‘microaggression’ to ask someone their ‘Christian name’ when enquiring about their first name.
Setting aside the fact that the UK is a Christian country, on what planet is this an act of aggression?” James Esses
Demented 🤣
It does seem that the entire health system is designed to make people with psychiatric disorders even worse than they already are. The system is infested with people who are either scared of their own shadows or are political activists intent on societal collapse.
Of course the cheerleaders for this monstrous system are resident in the Palace of Westminster.
This is certainly coherent behaviour for an organization which has absolutely no problem with so-disposed church officials sexually abusing boys.
No wonder the C of E is dying.
We are still awaiting the appointment of The Archbishop of Canterbury, the way things are going with Starmer and Charlie it’s likely to be someone who is not of the Anglican faith.
It’s not surprising this kind of thing is happening since the entire establishment have been infiltrated by a whole bunch of very dubious people who are working towards the eradication of our society and cultural norms.
The country is lurching towards a very uncertain future which has been thrust upon us by these people and the best they can come up with is more surveillance when in fact the ones that should be monitored are the very people that have been inserted into the system over the past 25 years.
So the country is spiritually and temporally finished, a major reset is required and I don’t see that there is much chance of a peaceful future with these dreadful people in power.
