Leaked TfL Documents Reveal Sadiq Khan’s New ‘War on Motorists’

Sadiq Khan has been accused of making life a nightmare for London drivers after a leaked TfL document revealed plans for higher parking charges, fewer spaces and more 20mph zones. The Mail has the story.

In an extraordinary leak, a local government official was photographed on the Tube reading a confidential Transport for London (TfL) document that listed a string of anti-car proposals.

They included expanding cash-raising controlled parking zones, hiking the cost of parking permits, increasing the use of double yellow lines and slashing car parking spaces. …

A page entitled “Jack’s list of policies” listed multiple parking rules and costs to impose on motorists.

The MoS has confirmed the Jack in question is Jack Maizels, the “spatial policy lead” on TfL’s “London Plan” team. The London Plan sets out developments for the capital over the next 20 to 25 years. …

The policies in the confidential document include “new/expanded/strengthened parking zones”, “higher permit charges”, “emission based charges” and “double yellow line expansion”.

One of the most controversial proposals is the “reallocation of car parking to other modes”.

It follows calls last year by a green charity for councils to scrap 25% of London’s roadside parking spaces and turn them into “parklets”, rain gardens and cycle storage.

The document’s policies also included the “reallocation of general traffic lanes to other modes”, which it said would result in “quicker buses”, and “bus and cycle only streets”.

It also listed “destination parking charges”, suggesting cost hikes in the most popular areas of the capital, and “speed limits – safer speeds”, hinting at an expansion of 20mph zones with cameras.

Worth reading in full.

‘Tackling inequality crises’ presumably means making everyone equally miserable.

Romford Road in East London was two lanes east bound, one of which was a bus lane. Khan is spending a large amount of cash to install a cycle lane which will reduce the width. Buses, illegal parking, three point turns etc will reduce traffic glow to a crawl.

His preferred voters who are in abundance around there won’t be pleased because they currently park on the bus lane after 5pm but when it disappears they can’t.

It is clear that Labour’s intention is to reduce London to an unworkable mess. I suggest a new non-Labour government should insist on priority through routes.

Here in Essex the Tory councillors are approving housing development with associated new roundabouts and higher traffic flow. These will severely hamper traffic movement within and through the district.

They seem to think the future is public transport, bicycles and shanks’s pony, supplemented by Zil limos for the elites.

There is no surprise here. It all follows C20 Cities policy. This is just the tip of the iceberg.

I think the main danger here isn’t to London and Londoners – if you drive in London, you are brave, but you must have already noticed that they are coming for you. No, the biggest potential problem is to those of us in other cities, when these policies are reported as resounding successes (as they will be, even if they’re comprehensive failures) and they are therefore rolled out to your compliant Labour councils up and down the land – despite rubbish bus services, lack of underground or reliable frequent above-ground rail, etc. everywhere else.

I understand a common tactic is to include subtle changes in versions of documents in order to identify who leaks information. Clever move to shift the blame onto some scally taking pictures on the Tube. There’s signs everywhere saying we shouldn’t so that makes whoever took the picture a bad person.

Not sure what the fuss is about 20mph zones in London. The last few times I did the journey the last 5 miles took nearly as long as the first 95… the place is an absolute shambles.

Fuck London, just keep away. I probably only have a couple of years left, so I won’t need to go there.

The WEF’s “Great Reset” requires car-free cities.

They can’t do it all in one go. They are systematically turning the screw to force most people to conclude that owning a car is (a) impractical and (b) unaffordable.

Obviously “the Governing Elite” and the very wealthy will be exempted.

London transport buses are unreliable. The bus apps don’t show real time any more. It takes twice as long to get anywhere it’s OK for people on the tube line but south london trains are.infrequent by comparison
