German Greens Demand Price Controls on Ice Cream Because Their Own Policies Have Made it Unaffordable
In 2004, Germany’s then-Federal Environment Minister Jürgen Trittin famously claimed in an interview that the renewable energy surcharge under the country’s vaunted Energiewende (‘energy transition’) would cost households “only around one euro per month, the price of a scoop of ice cream”. Fast forward to 2025, and the bitter irony is unmistakable: the Green Party, architects of Germany’s catastrophic climate policies, on Monday demanded price controls on ice cream.
For the virtue-signallers rife within the Green Party, this is so that poor children can afford the very treat that has become a luxury due to the soaring energy costs the party’s policies have inflicted. This absurd twist encapsulates the ideological fervour and economic illiteracy of Europe’s climate cultists, whose obsession with Net Zero has plunged the continent into an energy and cost-of-living crisis.

“The relentless and highly concentrated stupidity of our rulers is a very great weight to bear. Every day they devise some fantastic new and heretofore inconceivable retardation”
A very fair summary of what anybody with eyes to see could have worked out for themselves.
Our nations and our economies are being wrecked.
At what point do we conclude that this is deliberate sabotage instead of simply unimaginable incompetence and bumbling?
It’s difficult to distinguish between the two and not really necessary. It doesn’t matter why people do Bad Stuff™, what matters is to stop them from doing it.
Probably though knowing why may help you stop them. Hard to find out for sure though.
If it’s hard to find out, you may find taking steps to stop them gives you some clues. You could even question them in the House.
Yes, though I suspect they have very few unguarded moments and are better than average at lying to themselves
Britain is next to collapse due to energy poverty and over immigration from unassimmilable countries. Civil war will be the end result.
Ask the Venezuelans how well price controls work.
How did the woman pictured get anywhere near politics? She seems to encapsulate the mess Western Europe has got itself into in the 21st century. People with no practical knowledge on anything, just a lot of ’emotion and empathy’. It’s not working out well is it?
But you can imagine the importance of ice cream to her.
No doubt that if it comes in she will identify as a poor child. Then inhale the lot.
It’s interesting, isn’t it. I scrolled down before reading, saw her picture and immediately thought “I know *exactly* what your politics are”.
Like they all do in Germany (or most): Get A levels, go to university, join a party student’s organization there and then work your way up through so-called organs of student self-administration (AStA, general student commission and StuPa, student’s parliament) into real politics.
Few comments.
The Green Party and its demand to price control Ice cream, when they are clearly unaware that their policies are preventing people being able to afford basic foods, is very much akin to Marie Antoinette “Let them eat cake” statement. Hopefully there will be a similar uprising resulting in the removal of these decadent politicians.
The woman depicted is very typical of her Party, Fat, an expression betraying the dullness of her brain, and dressed like she just got out of bed and picked up the nearest dirty rag on the floor, and the German people vote for that!
I wonder when these Medieival puritans will be satisfied their job is done and will take credit for it, will it be when there are children begging on the streets? when there are no crops growing and no one willing to harvest them? when there is no money coming in because the country makes nothing that can be sold.
Note that the UK energy prices are higher than Germany;s so everything going on there is much worse here, only the MSM pretends it isn’t
Face like a psychotic sow.
The answer to your question about when they will be satisfied may lie in looking at various totalitarian regimes of the past and of today. It seems to me the answer is “never” – they only stop when things get so bad that they are kicked out.
It’s part of the endless pattern of government intervention which screws things up which is blamed on something else which triggers more government intervention.
This is the hell we have been condemned to live through. I’m not sure what our sins were and when but they must have been pretty bad to have to endure this gasligjtong hell.
The quickest way to ensure a shortage of something is to cap the price below that determined by the market.
Increased prices signals consumers to buy less to save money, and signals suppliers to supply more to make money. Cap prices low, signals consumers to buy more and signals suppliers not to bother or lose money. (Why “affordable” houses don’t get built, no money in it. )
It’s the key mechanism of the free market machine – jam the mechanism and the machine stops working properly.

Just to compound their stupidity, the EU and Usually fond of Lying are planning to impose an EU tax on any company with a turnover of 50m euro upwards which will help no end with the desertion of the EU as a business location.
Germany has a big problem with its grid that we do not have as they have unrestrained rooftop solar which delivers maximum output at the time of minimum demand. There is no control over it and it makes their grid vulnerable. Yes, the moron Miliband is pushing to ruin our farmland with solar panels but these will be under grid control.
How is it possible to refer to someone as non-elected in the same sentence that states that that someone barely politically surived a no confidence motion? I guess this must be the same kind of casual non-thinking than the one which keeps trashing the European fiefdoms of the American Democrats for remaining firmly in thrall with them without once realizing that these supposedly ‘European’ policies are implemented by their American adherents in about half of the USA completetly regardless of Donald “Call me Israel!” Trump.
Judging by the picture of her, Marianne should try having fewer scoops of ice cream!
how very communist of Germany!
