Starmer Endorses UN High-Tax Manifesto With Pledges to Increase Taxes on Fossil Fuels, Alcohol and the Wealthy
Sir Keir Starmer has endorsed a new high-tax United Nations manifesto, paving the way for higher taxes on the wealthy, alcohol and fossil fuels. The Telegraph has the story.
Ministers have endorsed the global agreement, which calls for greater environmental levies and “gender-responsive taxation”.
The UK’s participation represents another break with Donald Trump, who pulled the US out of the deal over concerns about its provisions on tax.
It comes after Rachel Reeves warned that taxes may have to be increased again in the autumn to plug the hole left by Labour’s welfare rebellion.
The Tories warned that Sir Keir Starmer was deliberately making it harder for a future government to reverse Labour’s tax rises.
Known as the Sevilla Commitment, the UN agreement was thrashed out between 192 countries at a five-day summit in Seville, Spain, last week.
While ostensibly focused on drumming up more development cash for poorer states, the final text of the deal contains 42 references to taxation.
There are specific mentions of taxes on “high net-worth individuals”, as well as tobacco and alcohol, natural resources and pollution.
Britain also signed up to a series of declarations on the side, including one that promotes higher taxes on unhealthy products such as sugary drinks.
Gareth Davies, the Shadow Treasury Minister, accused Labour of “outsourcing tax policy to organisations that don’t reflect the priorities of the British people”.
“People want to see their taxes reduced and simplified, not increased and complicated to fund vacuous virtue signalling by global elites,” he said.
“This will only make it harder for a future government to reverse Labour’s tax rises.”
The commitments in the deal are not legally binding, meaning that they could not be used to force through the adoption of domestic tax policies.
But critics warned that signing up to the pact showed the Government was locking Britain into a permanent course of ever higher taxation.

The UN should just rebrand itself as the International Communist Committee. It would be more honest.
Central planning, wealth theft and corruption (I mean development funds for poorer nations, sorry) at a global scale, all cloaked in fake, sanctimonious rhetoric of care for the welfare of humanity.
This comes as no surprise, it fits right in with Starmer selling out to the EU and his preference for Davos and The World Economic Forum over our own parliament.
It is clear that his desire to overthrow the authority of the electorate is the main priority of his and his obnoxious party.
The electorate has no authority which could be overthrown.
Thanks for putting me right!
Exactly. The main purpose of these international organisations is to corset national governments into policies drawn up by a global elite that knows what is best for everyone.
And to add insult to injury they tell you these technocratic behemoths are actually democratic and representative.
Managed decline right in front of our eyes.
The Tories would be doing broadly the same.
Trump did the rightthing
Of course he did as he is representing the people who voted for him.
Rachel must have known as it’s enough to make anybody weep.
Higher taxation – it’s what Labour do. It’s a thoughtless reflex.
“gender-responsive taxation”
Does anyone know what this means? Does it mean that if I borrow one of my wife’s skirts I’ll have my taxes reduced? Or is it just an attempt by the international parasite class to further their total-control state?
It will mean that you can pick your gender for the best tax outcome!
But not in the UK and USA though but.
It’s total bs, as you’ve spotted…
“This will only make it harder for a future government to reverse Labour’s tax rises.”
Code for “if we are elected we will not remove these taxes.”
Why?
There is nothing complicated about undoing tax increases. Feckin two-faced muppet. Lying barsteward.
Showing that a) they have learnt nothing from their 14 years of socialism and b) why people are willing to vote for Reform even if it is Nigel Farage Limited and not the Tories.
Another aspect of British government activity being outsourced to an unelected third party. Why exactly do we need the House of Commons and its lazy halfwits?
Exactly – I don’t think government, be it central or local, should be able to outsource anything. What’s the point in having the environment where you don’t have to make a profit for external shareholders, if you then outsource to someone who does? If you can’t do the job / don’t have the capability, step aside?
Absolutely.
Yep —-They don’t work for us . They work for the UN and WEF. Our petty little problems a re nothing to them as they have bigger fish to fry. They are busy helping to reorganise the global economy away from the Capitalist System with phony Climate Change Policies, and Mass Immigration to soften us up for Global Government.—–Imposing their Cultural Marxism on us to destroy the traditional family with gender crap and the war on Masculinity.
Starmer is assisting with Klaus Schwab’s 2030 Great Reset as increased taxation to pay for big government is key. Here are some excerpts from Herr Schwab’s book and on the first page of the book ‘Covid-19: The Great Reset’ it begins: “Since it made its entry on the world stage, COVID-19 has dramatically torn up the existing script of how to govern countries, live with others and take part in the global economy.” Page 33 – Just to provide a broad and oversimplified example, the containment of the coronavirus pandemic will necessitate a global surveillance network capable of identifying new outbreaks as soon a s they arise… Page 94 – As advocated by Joseph Stiglitz: The first priority is to (…) provide more funding for the public sector, especially for those parts of it that are designed to protect against the multitude of risks that a complex society faces, and to fund the advances in science and higher education, on which our future prosperity depends. A vacuous imbecile has endorsed a thing. How nice.
Britain also signed up to a series of declarations on the side, including one that promotes higher taxes on unhealthy products such as sugary drinks.
These products aren’t being taxed because they’re unhealthy, whatever that’s supposed to mean, they’re being taxed because they’re popular and it’s claimed that they’re unhealthy to justify that. The sole aim of taxation is raise money and the most effective way to accomplish that is ever increasing VAT under a myriad of different names for camouflage.
I think sugar taxes like tobacco and alcohol taxes are nominally about raising taxes.
What really belies them is a very ugly human trait of wanting to exert power over someone else.
The kind of people who draw up these schemes love to lord it over others and use the fake virtue of pursuing the better health of others as an excuse. It’s the perfect excuse. They can be tyrants while appearing virtuous.
Beware anyone who tells you they think these taxes are a good idea. Behind the words lurks a nasty petty tyrant.
Whenever someone decides that he’s entitled to more of my money, I’m not willing to believe that he’s interested in anything but this money because him getting it is the only outcome his decision is guaranteed to have. Anything beyond that are second-order effects which may or may not manifest themselves.
It also doesn’t matter if the people making such decisions are nasty petty tyrants or stupid enough to believe they’ll accomplish what they’re said to aim for. The outcome is the same in both cases: Make live marginally more expensive for a large mass of relatively poor people to collect a real lot of money to give to fairly few obscenely rich people.
You think it’s abou the money. I don’t.
People who back these things get none of the money. It goes to the bottomless pit of state coffers.
What they do get is the instant gratification of telling others how to live their lives while appearing to be virtuous and caring.
In this case, it’s probably the even bottomlesser pit of the international would-be superstate UN which really wants to dictate everything to anyone, up to the point of regulating how and when people may breathe or how they may greet each other¹.
I don’t care about the hidden motivations of the people implementing such policies because they don’t really matter. The outcome matters, which is more money for political agendas of the UN.
¹ At the height of the Corona-craze, I read some sort of Missions accomplished so far statement which claimed (paraphrase) that the habit of greeting people with handshakes would be “gone for good” now.
The taxation of alcohol will seek to enhance the destruction of the pub and hospitality industry. Deliberately.
Which blubbing Rachel from Accounts is already doing a good job at destroying. Wouldn’t it be great if businesses refused to sell her anything.
👍👍👍
Presumably she’d start crying.
Beat me to it! I imagine that the alcohol tax will be much lower for tinned lager in supermarkets, and extremely high for pubs, because they want people to get blind drunk & watch porn at home alone, so they hopefully top themselves, instead of socializing and talking about politics in pubs, or getting together for any kind of social bonding like a darts match or quiz or pub footie team.
They also want the pubs to turn into mosques, like in London’s East End, where genuine Cockneys once roamed.
Have China, Russia and the rest of the BRICS states signed up for it?
If they haven’t then the rest just risk hamstringing themselves compeitively.
The BRICS states are earmarked for being plundered after there’s nothing more to extort from us.
Here is a list of developing countries according to the UN. Notice that China and India are considered developing and I’ve highlighted Pakistan as they have nuclear weapons. The UN must consider developed countries must give money to developing countries. Nothing dodgy about this at al, and our representatives don’t argue back.
Our representatives aren’t actually our representatives. They are representatives of the bureaucratic, technocratic, governing class.
This is all clearly great for them. More funds to manage, more jobs to give out, more power.
These people are working for themselves – an out of control bureaucratic, technocratic governing elite.
By what right has this lawyer on the make got to sign an already overburdened working population with greater taxes in order to fulfil his personal ambition to join the UN
Providing yet more votes for Reform if only they can find a new leader to create some policies. Even the We Love Hamas Terrorists Party has talked of policies. But then if you go back to the EU Referendum, the great Nigel refused to have an exit plan – despite being offered the only credible one in existence – as he was afraid people would pick on it and criticise. It has always beggared belief that a party dedicated to leaving the EU would have no exit plan leaving the lying oaf Johnson to deliver our shambolic exit.
Spot on (sadly).
Farage is great at stirring up the population. But formulating a coherent plan to take on and defeat the establishment, that’s a whole different level.
Trump is having a go. And has only really started to make progress when he has received the backing of powerful segments of society. NY banking, Silicon Valley tech and some others.
Without a strong coalition its impossible. And it’s hard to see where that coalition comes from in Britain. Every institution, every powerful interest looks to me to be captured by the establishment.
But Johnson’s plan was just Teresa May’s Plan in disguise.
By the natural right given to him by the system we all operate under: anarchy.
Anyone who doesn’t realise that we live in anarchy where power determines everything is asleep and not paying attention. Or is being fooled by the fantasy that we live in a democratic system of self-determination.
I’m sure that’s true about his ambition – perhaps we need to create a new rule, no British politician can become an employee of the UN for 10 years after their government work finishes? Hugely unlikely I know, but there needs to be some block on this ‘nest feathering’ for the future
Yes, without the consent of Parliament or People. Just like ex-PM Teresa May took it upon herself to sign the Global Migration Pact, against the will of the British People, and without consulting their elected representatives in Parliament.
I don’t recall giving consent to being ruled by a global committee of 193 countries.
The democracy we have has been in the making for at least 800 years and yet it is being dismantled without a fight, at least from us, while there are not a few fighting to remove our freedoms, or rather freedoms for the most.
In 1647 during the Putney Debates Col. Thomas Rainsborough said the following:
“The poorest he that is in England hath a life to live as the greatest he … I think it’s clear, that every man that is to live under a government ought first by his own consent to put himself under that government; and I do think that the poorest man in England is not at all bound in a strict sense to that government that he hath not had a voice to put himself under.”
The UN is a tyranny run by tyrants and I and my fellow countrymen/women have no say in how our destiny unfolds. This is not acceptable.
The communists are poisoning the roots of the money tree and one day even they will only be left with its bitter inedible fruit. As things stand following parliaments cannot be bound by UN authoritarianism.
At some point, “eff off” will be the only possible response.
At present it’s just us, but I think it it is spreading.
It’s only a question of time, and possibly not that much time.
The UN, the enemy of the people.
“It comes after Rachel Reeves warned that taxes may have to be increased again in the autumn to plug the hole left by Labour’s welfare rebellion.”
Erratum
“It comes after Rachel Reeves warned that taxes may have to be increased again in the autumn to plug the hole left by Labour’s election.”
That’s what socialists/communists do, tax and spend tax and spend. As M Thatcher said they are very good at spending other people’s money. Why do we never learn? I wouldn’t let them run my bath.
What a big surprise—-Mr (I prefer Davos) Starmer licking the arses off his bosses at the UN and impoverishing us all with more pretend to save the planet skimming of our prosperity and lowering of our standard of living in line with the Globalists wealth redistribution agenda that uses climate change fear as the excuse.
““People want to see their taxes reduced and simplified, not increased and complicated to fund vacuous virtue signalling by global elites,” he said.”
It’s not virtue signaling – it is bringing down the western governments into corrupt third world territory – usual socialist plan to seek the lowest common denominator except for the top swines.
