Parents Can Remove Children From Classes With LGBT Books, US Supreme Court Rules

Parents can take their children out of classes if they are reading books with LGBT characters and storylines in them, the US Supreme Court has ruled, as the US upholds a parental right denied in the UK. The Telegraph has the story.

Christian and Muslim parents in Maryland sued to keep their elementary school children out of certain lessons when storybooks with LGBT+ characters were read, claiming it violated their constitutional rights. …

The LGBT+ ruling overturned a lower court’s refusal to force public schools in Montgomery County to allow some children to opt out of the classes if desired.

The lower court had rejected the argument made by a group of parents who sued the school district, claiming it violated the Constitution’s First Amendment protections for the free exercise of religion.

The court’s conservative justices were in the majority and its liberal justices dissented from the ruling.

The plaintiffs in the LGBT+ case – who are Muslim, Roman Catholic and Ukrainian Orthodox – said in their lawsuit that the storybooks “promote one-sided transgender ideology, encourage gender transitioning and focus excessively on romantic infatuation – with no parental notification or opportunity to opt out”.

Montgomery County said it ended the opt-outs in 2023 when the mounting number of requests to excuse students from these classes became logistically unworkable and raised concerns of “social stigma and isolation” among students who believe the books represent them and their families.

Opt-outs are still allowed by the district for sex education units of health classes.

The district ended opt-outs because too many parents wanted out – but the officials didn’t think, maybe we shouldn’t be forcing this unwanted indoctrination on little kids. They thought, too many don’t want it, so we’re going have to double down and make them take the LGBT medicine. Sounds like woke Left-wing logic to me.

Worth reading in full.

Leave the Christian/Muslim stuff out of it. I don’t want my kids getting confused by that evil crap, religion or none. Life has enough real challenges, without having to add this unnatural bullish*t.

All too often it’s only people with strong religious convictions who stand up to trans nonsense. For example when was the last time you read about a non religious teacher being sacked for refusing to teach kids that there are 42 different genders, or for not using a pupil’s preferred pronouns/name?

As an atheist I’m incredibly disappointed that there don’t seem to have been any non religious teachers who have realised that what’s being forced on kids is extremely damaging for some of them, and stood up for their pupils by refusing to teach it.

Why in the world any decent, sane parent would want to remove their kids from this specific type of education is beyond me. They need to learn to accept what is considered ‘normal’ nowadays;

This is all well and good but what about the parents that are fully paid-up members of this particularly dangerous cult? Those poor kids are royally screwed, aren’t they? A little boy so much as tries on his sister’s dresses or plays with her Barbies, that’s it. You’re in the wrong body and you’re really a girl. Puberty blockers for your birthday. Awful…

The fundamental question is this: how did we get to the point where the state can override the parents’ rights?
On paper we have freedom of religion and surely that freedom should include the parents’ right to decide what moral values are acceptable?

In the marxo-fascist regimes of the 20th century the state owned the children, and parents became the state’s agents in the family. Our contemporary madleft is attempting the same thing because, in their own estimation, they are our “moral superiors”, and they think they possess Wise And Numinous Knowledge.

Indeed. Hitler and NSDAP Mothers. But don’t dare tell the Champagne Socialists and the Woke Brigade that they have infinitely more in common with Nazism than us Literally Hitler Right Wing Conspiracy Theorist Science Deniers.

The Nazis in particular talked a great talk about independent free women, but reality was somewhat different, of course…

‘The district ended opt-outs because too many parents wanted out.’ Yeah, that makes sense! What kind of twisted logic is that?

Stories for primary school children should be devoid of anything to do with relationships, stick to wholesome themes such as war (Biggles) and outdoor adventures (Famous Five). The purpose is to learn how to read, not to learn about relationships.

Secondary school children? My view is that English Lit is entertainment, not worthy of being an academic subject, and certainly not worthy of being a degree. Do it at home, not at school or university.
