US Bombs Iran, Tehran Warns of “Everlasting Consequences”
Last night, America bombed three different nuclear sites in Iran, bringing the country directly into the Israel-Iran conflict. It is the most consequential decision of Donald Trump’s presidency to date.
Because this is a breaking news story, it’s probably easier to follow it on live, rolling blogs rather than link to a definitive account of the bombing.
The BBC’s live blog is here; the Telegraph’s is here; the Times’s is here; the Guardian’s is here; and the Mail’s is here. If you want a non-paywalled account of exactly what happened, how Iran has responded (made blood-curdling pledges to retaliate, obviously) and what line Sir Kier Starmer is taking (qualified support with a bit of guff about the need to return to the negotiating table) the Mail’s account is as good as any. Here’s how it begins:
Donald Trump stunned the world by launching a massive military strike intended to terminate Iran’s quest for a doomsday nuclear weapon.
Trump ordered the devastating attack on Saturday as six B-2 stealth bombers dropped a dozen 30,000-pound “bunker buster” bombs on Iran’s primary nuclear facility.
“The strikes were a spectacular military success,” Trump said in a late-night address to the nation from the White House.
Trump claimed the top secret uranium enrichment base hidden deep inside a mountain at Fordow, 80 miles south of Tehran, was flattened.
U.S. submarines also fired 30 Tomahawk missiles and wiped out two other Iranian nuclear sites at Natanz and Isfahan.
Iran’s foreign minister condemned the offensive as “extremely dangerous, lawless and criminal behavior”.
“The events this morning are outrageous and will have everlasting consequences,” Seyed Abbas Araghchi said. “Iran reserves all options to defend its sovereignty, interest, and people.”
By Sunday morning, Israel was being struck by a barrage of missiles as Iran launched a retaliatory attack.
A rescue worker could be seen helping children in Haifa and buildings in Tel Aviv suffered significant damage as a number of people were reported wounded.
The dramatic series of events caught everyone off guard when Trump acted swiftly after meeting with his national security council at the White House.
Just 48 hours earlier, the president had said he would decide ‘within two weeks’ whether to send in U.S. bombers to help Israel destroy Iran’s nuclear program.
After that statement the world let out the breath it had been collectively holding, and it seemed the immediate prospect of a strike had receded.
Trump’s own MAGA movement had been tearing itself apart over the prospect of another Middle East war, and the president himself suggested there was still a chance for a diplomatic solution.
But all that changed very quickly as Trump became convinced that Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei would never voluntarily give up his quest for a nuclear bomb.
On Friday afternoon, Trump flew on Air Force One to a fundraising event at his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey.
Already, his mind appeared to be firming up and, speaking on the runway, he described two weeks as a “maximum” deadline.
He was in constant communication with his advisers and came to rely on the judgment of four key people – Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the CIA Director John Ratcliffe, and perhaps most crucially, Dan ‘Razin’ Caine, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff – the man Trump credits with annihilating ISIS in his first term.
Ratcliffe and Caine, in particular, were briefing Trump on the intelligence of how close Iran was to getting a nuclear bomb – a matter of weeks – and the chances of military success if the commander in chief ordered a strike.

Yep, that’s about the size of it. And remember, Iran ( and proxies ) are firing at civilian areas in Israel but Israel are still in the wrong. A tale as old as time; ”So that I understand this correctly: Yemen fired missiles and drones indiscriminately at Israel without provocation. Hezbollah (part of the Lebanese government) fired thousands of rockets and missiles at Israel indiscriminately without provocation. All of these were armed and funded and controlled by Iran. And millions around the world plus a bunch of delusional podcasters were not only okay with that, but cheered it on and demanded more. Yet Israel destroys Hezbollah in Lebanon, hits the Houthis in Yemen and hits Iran military and nuclear installations, and the US hits just three sites in Iran, all of a sudden Israel and the US are condemned for breaching the sovereignty of these countries? There comes a time when hypocrisy and stupidity are so blatant and openly shown that it’s hard not to mock and laugh at these idiots. So many people since Oct 7 were shouting that Iran was the head of the snake, yet now that the head of the snake has been essentially decapitated, many… Read more »
All the problems in the Middle East have been directly caused by Israel’s supremacist attitude towards the world in general and Arabs in particular, its illegal occupation of Palestinian territory, its apartheid treatment of Palestinian Arabs and its ongoing genocide. With staunch US support, Israel has freely bombed every surrounding country since its inception in 1948. Its staunch US support comes, of course, at a price. Israel has used its impressive financial sources from primarily USA to influence US politics and politicians (keywords: the Israel lobby). Miriam Adelson, as an example, donated $100 million to Trump’s recent election campaign. Her late husband, Sheldon, had donated over half a billion dollars to Republican causes (https://www.newsweek.com/sheldon-adelson-donald-trump-republicans-donations-1560883): The couple’s total contributions for the Republican cause in the 2020 cycle were $218 million, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, whose figures show that the couple has given nearly $524 million since 2010—$424 million since the start of Trump’s election campaign in 2016. The couple also gave millions over the years to pro-Israel organizations. Nobody will claim that donations of such magnitude will not be rewarded. Instead of being MAGA’s President for Peace, Donald Trump has become yet another slave to Israeli demands for… Read more »
If the surrounding (mostly Arab) countries would leave the Israelis alone, and better still, be prepared to co-operate with and learn from them, then the whole ME would be a much better place. In general, Arabs just have proven so far to be useless at building successful modern states, unless they have hydrocarbons. And even then they needed Western brains to enable their move from camels to Mercedes.
If the surrounding (mostly Arab) countries would leave the Israelis alone, and better still, be prepared to co-operate with and learn from them, then the whole ME would be a much better place. There is no question that the populations of Israel’s surrounding countries are very much opposed to Israel’s slaughter of Palestinians – and are regularly bombed by Israel as a result – but their governments massively invest in and assist Israel’s industries, especially its defence industry. Affinity Partners is Jared Kushner’s investment company financed by Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar and others. (Jared Kushner is Donald Trump’s son-in-law.) Affinity Partners owns Israel’s largest ship building company, the Shlomo Group, which provides the majority of ships for Israel’s navy. Affinity Partners partly owns Phoenix Investment, with 2 million shares in Israel’s largest arms company, Elbit Systems, which itself supplies 85% of the drones used in Gaza and the West Bank to monitor and kill Palestinians. In 2021, a deal was signed between the UAE state company, Edge Group, and Israel Aerospace Industries to also jointly develop drones. Edge Group owns 30% of Israel’s defence contractor, Third Eye Systems, providing software to the IDF in Gaza. And so on, and so… Read more »
Don’t the Persians want their country back from the colonialists?
Don’t the Persians want their country back from the colonialists, the ‘dumb Arabs’?
It seems they do:

This is an interesting suggestion from Ben Swann a US journalist.
“The US told Iran that the American strikes on nuclear facilities were a one-off operation and were not intended to overthrow the enraged Iranian government” the WSJ reported.
What if this is “part of the deal” Iran agreed to?
The US warned, and the sites were empty. Iran might even be allowed to “retaliate” without causing American casualties. Then agree to a peace deal.
Everyone saves face because Israel in the US have just declared victory essentially saying they don’t need to do anymore.
Iran has made similar deals with the US before.
All good points.
That’s exactly what I’m assuming has happened.
Trumps didn’t want this, got blindsided, but couldn’t back the US out. So he embraces the totally bogus “Iran is about to get a bomb” story, bombs the supposed nuclear facilities, claims it’s all destroyed now, and get backs to his actual agenda.
The Iran nuclear bomb story is just total BS. It’s a story with some element of truth blown out of total proportion to scare and manipulate the population into something.
The only question in my mind is whether Trumps has been captured by the neo-con globalists or whether he’s dealing with them as best as he can to carry on with his agenda.
I’m betting the latter.
America Has an Israeli Puppet and a Moron for its president:
“The world must not forget that it was the United States — during an ongoing diplomatic process — that betrayed diplomacy by supporting the aggressive actions of the genocidal and lawless Israeli regime. Now, by completing the chain of violations and crimes committed by the Zionist regime, the US has itself launched a dangerous war against Iran. The Islamic Republic of Iran reserves its right to resist with full force against US military aggression and the crimes committed by this rogue regime, and to defend Iran’s security and national interests.”
Paul Craig Roberts
It’s just not clear to me whether Trump and his people are aligned with the Israeli attack or not.
I don’t see the US as a monolithic entity. I see at least a couple of factions, one of which is the neo-cons who seem aligned with UK and European globalists.
To assume that the US establishment acts according to and only according to Trump’s instructions and his agenda is a big mistake.
Wow! You were way ahead of the rest of us, because I just found this link on the Alex Jones Infowars website. There’s even a video of Trump explaining how he & Iran used this tactic before. Notice it all happened on the night of the SUMMER SOLSTICE! The https://t.co/enfV70VHO1” / X “1) Iran’s nuclear facilities were evacuated and equipment moved out days in advance. 2) US publicly announced and made the upcoming strikes visible. We all saw the bombers moving in place and the news coverage predicting the strike. 3) The U.S. hence struck an empty Iranian nuclear facility, since the Iranians knew and evacuated it. 4) US satellites showed the evacuation of the facilities by the Iranians, hence the Americans knew the facility is are empty and not operational. 5) US and Iran held secret talks in Oman days before, no one knows what was agreed upon. 6) Trump essentially explained that such a deal was done previously. -> The attached video! 7) The only logical conclusion is that Iran and USA made a secret deal to end the war. – USA strikes empty facilities – Iran will retaliate but miss (like in the video explained) -> Just… Read more »
I think it’s one of those situations where nobody had any idea what else could have been done.
Leave Iran to develop nuclear weapons?
You’re assuming they were developing nuclear weapons. It’s certainly possible but who knows? We were told that Iraq had “weapons of mass destruction” – I think even the people who peddled that story admitted they were “wrong”.
You might be right.
Maybe they just built an underground uranium enrichment facility tens of meters below a rocky landscape for the fun of it.
Maybe they didn’t allow access to these sites for investigators because they are a bit shy.
Maybe they only chant “death to Israel” because it has a catchy tune.
Maybe they only financed Hamas and Hezbollah because they like men in uniforms.
Maybe.
Maybe they knew their peaceful facilities would get bombed anyway
As for their meddling, they are not the only ones
Israel has a lot of nuclear weapons apparently- but people in the “west” don’t seem to mind
I don’t have much of an axe to grind- as I posted elsewhere “Europe” is finished anyway
Thanks to the DS for all those links to the latest information.
And just as the UK is about to evacuate its citizens from Israel, two of the RAF planes normally used to evacuate British citizens from emergencies abroad are OUT OF ACTION, after the Terror Attack at Brize Norton by Palestine Action Terrorists:
UK diplomats quit Tehran and evacuation flights for Brits in Israel announced amid war with Iran | The Standard
Costs of damage from Palestine Action attacks at RAF Brize Norton will total ‘at least… – LBC
“The attacks have cost the defence industry at least £30 MILLION pounds. It is feared that the damage caused to the engine of one plane may render the aircraft unsafe to be used again and could cost £25 million to replace.”
“While the extent of the damage is still being investigated, it is thought that red paint sprayed into the turbine of the engine has caused IRREPARABLE DAMAGE.”
“Other costs are believed to be attributed to repairs to warehouses, research facilities and factories, lost working time from the disruption, and the extra security firms have been forced to invest in to prevent further attacks by Palestine Action.”
So, if Iran does decide to retaliate, all it needs to do to cripple UK armed forces is to equip a few people with paint guns and wire cutters?
Judging from that astonishing photo of the six-foot wooden fence next to the public road in yesterday’s DS article, they didn’t even need wire cutters! They could just hop over it, lift their electric scooters over, and walk on the grass to the planes on the tarmac. It’s just mind-boggling.
But this wouldn’t have been a problem without Mass Third World Immigration.
Remember what the Bible says: “Never let the Enemy into the camp!”

“Donald Trump stunned the world by launching a massive military strike…”
Hardly. We (except the Daily Mail) knew it was coming, just a question of when.
“Trump claimed the top secret uranium enrichment base…”
Top secret? The World and its mother knew it was there.
Daily Mail… must try harder.
If you want less-biased reporting on the Middle East than UK government sources (Telegraph, Times, Guardian …), I recommend the websites Antiwar, Middle East Eye, Electronic Intifada, +972 Magazine and Grayzone.
Please take a minute to read Lord Bebo’s post linked from the Alex Jones Infowars website, explaining how it might all be a secret deal between Trump & Iran, with an actual video interview where Trump explains exactly how they did that before!!!

Remember “The Who” sang: “We Won’t Get Fooled Again”…
I have to say that if this is an example of wars where nobody gets killed, but they have fun blowing stuff up, then it’s a good thing.
I don’t even understand you people. I mean in terms of being willing to examine the actual reality. Trump knows that he messed up big time and is hoping for a semi-rational response. It doesn’t work like that. If the idea was to launch the attack in order to reduce the impacts on markets then you miscalculated big time. Honestly this is a catastrophic mistake from every perspective. You people are imbeciles of the highest order. Not normally a problem but it is when you jeopardise the future of the human race.
Just don’t talk to me about anything you seem like shells of human beings.
