Why Do Sceptics Abandon Scepticism When Faced With Claims the Government Could Block Out the Sun?
According to the Telegraph, the Government is now taking seriously the possibility that Britain’s ever-growing list of mortal enemies might be considering denying our island the sunlight given to us by God himself. “Third-party actors could include countries taking drastic action to lower their carbon emissions,” explains the newspaper. Or worse, experts warn that latter-day Bond villains and “hostile nations such as Russia” might be planning to use “solar geoengineering to orchestrate an environmental disaster against their enemies”. Climate change mitigation, then, could be a pretext for interventions that destroy our food and plunge us into a cold and dark future. That being the same premise as the humans’ strike against the machines in The Matrix is not this story’s only resonance with daft sci-fi plots.
“We don’t know who struck first – us or them,” Morpheus tells Neo in the Desert of the Real. “But we know that it was us that scorched the sky.” This was humanity’s strike against the machine world, which (having no need for agriculture) depended on solar power. The “Desert of the Real” is French postmodern philosopher Jean Baudrillard’s description of a society in which reality (the “real”) is obscured by simulation – a state of “hyperreality”, thus inspiring the Wachowski brothers’ (now sisters) plot. Baudrillard’s hypothesis has leant itself to critiques of war, the violent reality (the “real”) from which most of the populations of Western nations have been protected, their understanding mediated by TV screens and the agendas of TV executives and their masters in turn.

Here in Scotland where we are lucky to get 15 really great sunny days per year. I don’t think people will appreciate our silly Politicians BLOCKING that sun. As Billy Connolly once joked. “In Scotland we only have two seasons, winter and July”. —–Is it going to end up being “one season”? —-We are governed by the most ridiculous bunch of twerps ever all over the western world, and their exploitation of climate for Political purposes is the greatest pseudo scientific FRAUD
Most of our politicians aren’t silly: they have an agenda. You might say having the agenda that they have is silly, but it does conceal that they have a destructive agenda, and we are left in a state of stasis.
What has been shown is how little the public understand the basics behind much of Science: that is the Physics and Chemistry underlying our Energy and Chemical Industries, industries that can generate so much wealth, and how Science is supposed to work. Decision makers, deficient in STEM knowledge and business experience, ensures dysfunctionality, and the Legacy Media’s incompetence at understanding what’s going on makes the situation harder to correct.
It’s pointless building the best windmills that have ever been built when windmills can’t provide a modern, industrial economy with a credible Energy source without spending vast sums on supporting infrastructure. Closing down the North Sea Oil and Gas industries, that will increase imports, is another own goal.
At the end of the day though what they are doing is “silly”. But then that all depends on what the purpose of doing something is. To ordinary people trying to afford their energy bills, being coerced into EV’s, and splashing out on heat pumps that cannot do what gas central heating does it is “silly”. To the globalist technocrat trying to control all of the worlds wealth, resources and people it is not “silly” at all. ——So me calling them “silly” was way too polite. They are phony planet saving imposters and they are imposing their One World Government Agenda on us all, using irrational fear of a climate crisis for which no empirical evidence really exists. It is not “science”. It is POLITICS ….called “Sustainable Development”
One thing the Russians are not is stupid. We are. Really stupid. We in the West have voted in the worst politicians in several generations, and then do what they say: Macron, Ardern, Trudeau, Carney, Biden, Starmer, Cameron, May, Sturgeon, Swinney, Tusk, Kallas,Shultz, Metz, Merkel. Then of course there’s the unelected EU dictators like Junkers, Von der Layen..

We already know that weather modification ‘works’. Huge volcanic eruptions may generate clouds that circle around the globe and reduce the amount of sunlight reaching the ground. We already know that one of the consequences of removing high sulphur fuel oil from shipping is the reduction of particulates that encourage the formation of clouds, thus increasing the amount of sunlight reaching the ground. More locally the Clean Air act and the requirement to burn smokeless fuel in cities reduced the formation of smog and mists.
Yet we are still here despite ‘weather modification’. Just government fear porn.

Climate change is a slow, natural process and is nothing to worry about. There is no need to reduce CO2 emissions.
The Labour government is spending money in an attempt to block the sun over our country with more clouds. If there’s one problem in Britain it’s too much sun and not enough cloud!

Well at the risk of stating the obvious,
”sceptics” do not think as a single entity. I find some of the views expressed on “weather modification” and the spraying of the atmosphere with toxic substances to be fairly implausible. But a few years ago I would have found the idea of a fake pandemic implausible, ditto the MK Ultra program.
I am not overly concerned about attempts at weather modification but would rather it was not done at all and I remain open to the possibility that there is more going on than is obvious.

Weather modification can only occur locally and of short duration. For example: cloud seeding to cause rainfall isn’t new, but once the cloud has gone… that’s it. Clouds move too.
During the 1960s when ever it rained, my mother used to blame NASA, particularly when she’d just put washing out on the line – it’s those bloody rockets they keep sending up.
Causing large fires can block out the Sun for short intervals – depending on wind direction.
The Earth’s atmospheric system contains a vast amount of energy,with chaotic, real-time interactions… it is not possible to change just one thing in isolation. Counter effects – unpredictable – will occur.
This fact is what torpedoes the carbon dioxide/climate change nonsense. The notion that changing just one factor in a dynamic system will bring about a predictable change without any counter response within the system as a whole, is not reasoned thinking. The Earth’s atmosphere is not static, inert.
Changing weather patterns at will and for duration is in a particular geolocation, well… let’s ask King Canute.

Yes chemtrails is rubbish as a conspiracy theory. If you wanted to get some unspecified ‘chemical’ into people’s bodies you’d put it in the public water supply, obviously. Then drink bottled water yourself.

Ben, I know you are good on climate but you need to
keep an eye on what’s going on elsewhere. Cloud seeding is not my subject but your comments on immigration are, well, silly:

Actually, sending refugees to burden opponents is part of the Russian playbook, exemplified by Finland closing its border with Russia for that reason two years ago. Putin’s Wagner group specialised in shepherding people from Africa across the Med (making a packet in the process) and, I suspect, that was part of the reason for their destabilisation work in Africa.
Blocking out the sun is existing technology though not exactly controllable. Ever heard of volcanos? Global cooling follows large eruptions. The plot of my next novel introduced a manmade stimulus to cause an eruption, though the Israeli attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities has necessitated a major rewrite.
As for Russian interference they already have. I am still waiting for someone to determine the global effect on climate of the drying out of the Aral Sea, largely the result of diverting water for the irrigation of cotton. Someone please do this.

The paradox here is that by accepting that inserting aerosols like SO2 into the atmosphere will cause cooling they refuse to quantify how much of the last 50 years of warming was triggered by the Clean Air Acts and not CO2. Along with Urban Heat Island effects the role of CO2 is dramatically reduced in recent and future warming. Another recent example was the accepted warming effect of removing SO2 from marine diesel.
Western Europe’s cultural suicide is entirely self inflicted. The UK willingly admitted millions and millions of members of the Islamic death cult referred to in your second article. What do any of you think will happen when UK becomes majority moslem?
