This is the most recent report I could find, seeing as there’s nothing in the Round-up, and it appears they’re now saying it was the driver they arrested who is white British. He was beeping his horn and didn’t appear to be going as fast as your typical jihadi attack so I think in this instance they might be right and it’s not a terrorist attack. Still many injured and taken to hospital, including kids, so he’s done a huge amount of damage; ”Police said a 53-year-old man, who they described as white British and from the Merseryside area, has been arrested. The man arrested is believed to be the driver of the car that crashed into the crowd, and the incident is not thought be terrorism, Merseyside Police Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims said in a press conference on Sunday evening. She said: “Extensive inquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances leading up to the collision, and it is vital that people do not speculate or spread misinformation on social media. “I know that people will understandably be concerned by what has happened tonight. “What I can tell you is that we believe this to be an isolated incident,… Read more »
Interested to hear comments from the seemingly fairly staunch Reform supporters here regarding the points about welfare. I’m a bit of a softy but I think too much welfare (and I am pretty sure we have too much) is bad for society.
FWIW I would prioritise cutting inward immigration to near zero over welfare reform because too much welfare is reversible and changing our country through immigration is not.
Very disappointed in Sumption saying Connolly should be in prison. Lost all respect for him.
I lost respect for him when he endorsed the jabs, including jab passports, as the best way out of lockdowns.
He’s an idiot.
Yes, that’s true about the “vaccinations” and especially the “passports”. I had somewhat forgotten that.
I look forward to the day when all corrupt, Satanic Globalist judges and lawyers are publicly flogged, and the entire judicial system abolished.
His comments seek to shows how out of touch the establishment is to the lives or ordinary people. Throughout my lifetime my experience is that people have always made comments like the one made by Lucy Connolly and all the others it is just that in the past these comments were just made over the garden fence or down the pub,. Indeed I have heard spoken comments that make Lucy Connolly’s look like balanced liberal opinion it is just that these comments are not made on line.
TPTB are terrified of the internet and social media, the hoi-polloi have been given the means to publish themselves unedited and uncontrolled and TPTB are determined to put us all back in our box. To my mind her crime and the crime of all the others was not what she said but that they all posted it on the internet/social media and in doing so made their views as widely known as Lord Sumption’s and that will never do!
That is very much it.
There is no other reasonable explanation as to why something so utterly devoid of a victim would be punished so viciously.
All I have read is the headline. The Telegraph is paywalled. I know there are ways round paywalls but I don’t want to use them because they deserve the opportunity to make a living. We need more original material in DS – why not ask Sumption to write a piece for DS?
Turn off JavaScript (e.g. noscript plugin) and the DT is wide open for reading.
Thanks. I don’t want to cheat the Telegraph, much as I generally am not keen on them.
Britain named work from home capital of Europe
Unsurprising in a country with a deteriorating infrastructure and slavish adherence to dreadful mindless ‘open plan’ office workplaces.
The evidence shows that working from home improves productivity.
How could it not?
Only a complete lunatic could think that individuals fighting their way through crowds, traffic jams, appalling train services, would be bright eyed and ready for the fray upon arrival.
Thank heavens there seem to be plenty of enlightened managers, team leaders who understand this……
‘This study offers powerful evidence for why 80% of U.S. companies now offer some form of remote work,” Bloom says, “and for why the remaining 20% of firms that don’t are likely paying a price.’
https://news.stanford.edu/stories/2024/06/hybrid-work-is-a-win-win-win-for-companies-workers
‘77% of those who work remotely at least a few times per month show increased productivity, with 30% doing more work in less time and 24% doing more work in the same period of time according to a survey by ConnectSolutions. Statistics on AI in the workplace show that new tools can aid in this increased productivity.’

Not everyone has to fight their way through crowds to get to work. The vast majority of workers involved with manufacturing companies don’t head for the city centres; their factories tend to be in suburban locations.
Trump calls Putin ‘absolutely crazy’ after Russia’s largest air attack on Ukraine Putin is crazy ‘Since January, despite a claimed upsurge in its offensive, Russian forces have taken the equivalent of around only 0.15% of Ukraine’s territory. The data show its pace of advance is less than a third of that achieved at the end of 2024 falling from about 125 square kilometers (48 square miles) to 41 square kilometers (16 square miles) a week. Bloomberg sources, said to be close to Russia’s Ministry of Defense, say that even Moscow’s military consider the goals that have been set by the Kremlin to be unachievable. They say that they have only enjoyed “minor tactical success” despite the claims made by their leadership. Ukraine’s widespread use of multi-level defensive positions supplemented by drones are not only making large-scale offensive operations increasingly difficult but are also proving costly in terms of personnel and equipment losses. Russia is currently occupying less than 20% of Ukraine’s territory, a figure that also includes occupied Crimea and the so-call Luhansk and Donetsk People’s Republics. That is now considerably less than the almost 30% it had captured in the first couple of months of its 2022 full-scale invasion.’… Read more »
I believe he wasn’t very complimentary about Zelensky either.
President Trump”backed down on his [tariff threat] after a very nice call”
Er, isn’t that the purpose of a threat?
It’s clear to those not suffering from TDS that the tariffs are not policy but a gambit to force countries to the table. “Nice economy you’ve got there, it’d be a shame if something happened to it…”
His MO is pretty obvious by now to everyone you’d think…
This government would have all the cash it needed if it was to abandon its green obsession, and we would all become better off at the same time.
A friend drew my attention to this video about how the new US Government is tackling the profligacy of the Biden’s Department of Energy in the time between Trump’s election and Biden’s final departure.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yC4goW2tVvU. An example of splurging $90Bn plus in 2 months with no due diligence.
That’s looting.
I don’t think there should be a handover period. You lost; you’re done making decisions and you’re immediately accountable to the new regime.
“Lord Sumption defends Lucy Connolly’s imprisonment for inciting violence”.
Which particular act of violence and what is the evidence that Lucy Connolly incited it?
It is an incredibly low bar to just speculate that someone’s words incited some unspecified violence somewhere or other, offer no evidence to support the speculation and then throw a person in jail on the basis of it.
I would love to debate this with Sumption. From the headline, he’s talking utter rubbish which I find surprising.
