A belated recognition that Russia has already attacked us multiple times, including killing a British citizen and badly injuring an English policeman on British soil in 2018.

I will repeat what Art Simtotic wrote above:

Yet further evidence of the need to increase defence spending. The first duty of government is defence of the realm, most particularly its borders.

It seems to me that the Royal Navy, given strong enough terms of reference, could usefully develop autonomous systems designed to return migrants, intercepted on the high seas, to their point of departure.

The key, of course, would be the legal framework within which the RN could operate and a significantly enhanced defence budget. Britain, in any case, urgently needs to improve its unmanned military capabilities on land, sea and air.

Everyone knows what must be done in that regard, which will require strong political leadership (doubtless from a politician who is not a stuffing lawyer!).

If the genuine political will is there (which I suspect it will never be) we will find out whether our current capabilities are sufficient. We’ll talk then.

Monro

If some politician discovers a backbone but then discovers that we lack key capabilities (which take years to develop, technically and in terms of scale production, not to mention training, operational experience to develop standard operating procedures), that would be a bit silly, would it not……

While this review will serve as the foundation for government decisions, some experts remain concerned that it may not lead to sufficiently rapid and concrete measures. As Western armed forces reassess their strategies and equipment to address the realities of modern warfare, the UK’s ability to adapt to emerging threats will largely depend on political resolve and the efficiency of its defense industry. The modernization of military equipment, large-scale integration of drones into combat strategies, and expansion of stockpiles remain critical priorities to ensure the operational effectiveness of British forces in the years ahead.’

I doubt the key capabilities will include defending our borders. Anyway, millions have arrived and will arrive legally, and they are just as much of a problem.

Monro

Why are highly educated, motivated immigrants from Hong Kong a ‘problem’.

Other educated, motivated immigrants from, for example, Uganda, have, in the past, been a great success.

We can always cherry pick specific examples where it has worked. If we’d not had tens of millions of variable quality I would not be bothered. But we have, and enough is enough. We don’t “need” anyone. We need to preserve our country and our race.

‘Six members of a Russian proxy spy ring dubbed “the Minions” are facing years behind bars for one of the “largest and most complex” enemy operations to be uncovered on UK soil.

Bulgarians Katrin Ivanova (33), Vanya Gaberova (30) and Tihomir Ivanov Ivanchev (39) were found guilty at the England’s Central Criminal Court of spying on an “industrial scale”, putting lives and national security at risk.’

Indeed. There is the little matter of crossing the rest of Europe first with his “million man army”. I am quite sure that our formers Europen partners will quite happily let them cross Germany, France, Belgium and Holland using the principle of free movement.
I am afraid that our politicians and their military advisers lack even basic common sense.

‘That Vladimir Putin wants to target the Baltic States next is evident from the Russian rhetoric about restoring the Russian empire, the Minister said.’

‘The Suwalki corridor is a particularly vulnerable point in Lithuania and may be the first target of attack. The narrow passage between Poland and the Baltic States, with the Russian exclave Kaliningrad on one side and the Russian vassal state of Belarus on the other, could be a way for Russia to connect the Kaliningrad outpost of military installations to the mother country. It is also a good point to pinch off the artery between Poland and the NATO members Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia.’

Any of those options would involve this country in a war with Russia.

“It is the view of our services that if there is a ceasefire in Ukraine, the threat to the rest of NATO could become much greater within a year,” Brekelmans said.

Starmer prepares for attack by Russia

A bit late:

Iranian terror suspect ‘has close links to regime’

And which country is Iran’s closest ally, has already killed a British citizen, badly injured an English policeman, on British soil?

Someone gets it:

‘Dutch Minister of Defence Ruben Brekelmans has warned that Russia could be ready to execute a “large-scale” troop movement approximately one year after any ceasefire or peace agreement in Ukraine, according to Dutch military intelligence.

Brekelmans’ statements, delivered at a security conference in Baarn, further reinforce these concerns, painting a worrying picture of future Russian military actions.

In a speech, Brekelmans painted a scenario where Russian President Vladimir Putin might station “hundreds of thousands of troops on the border with the Baltic countries for a large-scale exercise,” noting that Ukraine’s experience shows “we know only one week in advance” whether such movements are merely exercises or preparations for an attack.’

Strewth, what a prat! But he’s married to an SNP Minister, so no surprises for having this viewpoint. Yes, behold all the ”weirdos”, who want female spaces and sports to remain exclusively for females, for some unfathomable reason. How could such a thing NOT be seen as ”advancing equality” for men with fetishes/sexual perverts, as opposed to these degenerate, porn-addicted freaks being clearly obsessed with impinging on our right to privacy, dignity and respect?; ”An SNP Minister’s husband has branded critics who raise concerns about trans people and changing rooms as “weirdo”. SNP Councillor Robert Innes, who is married to Children’s Minister Natalie Don-Innes, hit out at people who are “obsessed” with “genitalia”. “If you are obsessed with, or focused on caring about, somebody else’s genitalia in a changing room, then you’re the weirdo, not the person who is trying to get changed. “If you are in a public restroom and everybody is behaving as you would expect – going to the toilet, washing their hands, checking their reflection – then what does it matter if they are a male or a female? “It’s the abusers that should be the concern and the focus here, not the people in the toilet. This ruling here,… Read more »

The SNP have properly lost the plot. A fierce supporter of independence that I know used to go on about how great they were and how they would deliver a “Free Scotland”, but now absolutely detests everything about them. They are good for a laugh, but honestly, what a collection of people elevated far, far above their competency and intelligence levels. The Holyrood “Parliament”is just a complete embarrassment at this point.

Mogwai

Reply to  huxleypiggles

They make up this blatant BS as they go along. If you didn’t see the BBC article I posted yesterday about lesbians, apparently having a ”genital preference” is ‘fascist/transphobic/discriminatory’ according to these misogynist ( very much a unisex word nowadays ) nutbars. But isn’t it interesting we never hear it from the opposite perspective, and gay men who refuse to sleep with FtM trans folk ( who are still in possession of their vaginas ) are labelled with these slurs? Only the lesbians. Anyone would think it’s only the men posing as women that are acting in a predatory fashion. That’s why much of the LGB community are distancing themselves from the TQ+ people, because they’re obviously deranged as well as homophobic, but also the risk they pose to kids cannot be underestimated. *Something to add which doesn’t get acknowledged that much: most women who trans to ‘men/non-binary’ are same-sex attracted, so lesbians, in other words. But most men who identify as women are heterosexual men. This is where the difference is most obvious and how we can tell that the predation and violation of rights and boundaries is coming from only the one side. In what way are FtM… Read more »

Quite rightly the Trump administration continues to condemn the anti-democratic authoritarian regime that’s in charge of Germany. Christopher Landau’s turn to give them a good roasting; ”The war of words continues to escalate between the Trump administration and the parting left-Green German government over the secret police attack on the largest opposition party in Germany, the Alternative for Germany (AfD). Responding to an X post from the German foreign ministry, Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau issued a scathing smack-down to the self-righteous finger-waggers in Berlin. The slugfest began with an X post by SecState Marco Rubio – Landau’s boss and confidante – skewering the German government’s attack on the AfD; “Germany just gave its spy agency new powers to surveil the opposition. That’s not democracy—it’s tyranny in disguise. What is truly extremist is not the popular AfD—which took second in the recent election—but rather the establishment’s deadly open border immigration policies that the AfD opposes.” And a later response from Landau; “Speaking for myself, words can’t even begin to express the outrage and resentment I feel at having an official account of the GERMAN government purport to lecture the US Secretary of State on the need to spy on… Read more »

For a fist full of roubles

The shame about the Lucy Powell affair is not so much her attitude but the response of almost the entire Labour commentariat that she has apologised for mis-speaking and that is the end of the affair. The dishonour she has brought on her self is now shared with the rest of her colleagues and other supporters.

Is this now just so commonplace in British cities that nobody reacts? All of these people walking past doing the ”If I just pretend I didn’t witness that I won’t have to demonstrate an iota of courage and intervene” thing, that not a single person even goes to see if this disabled man is alright. Actually, I’m not sure the perps are migrants. They just looks like dirtbag chavs to me;

”UK: In Manchester, a North African migrant violently attacks a disabled man, knocking him out of his wheelchair, simply because he begged for some change.

A disabled native British man, living in poverty, attacked by a migrant who’s likely living rent-free in a hotel!”

“The moderate centre-Right party used to be the big beast of politics, but it has failed to address an alienated electorate, says Wolfgang Munchau in UnHerd.”

If he is talking about UK politics, I would love to know which “big beast” party he is referring to that is “moderate centre-Right”. Surely not the Fake Conservatives, who brought you “covid” lockdowns, Nut Zero, high taxes, wokery, restrictions on freedom of speech and mass immigration.

It may be being used to prop up EV sales currently but it was initially introduced in 1977. It’s nearly fifty years old so an awful lot of taxpayers money has been laundered through it in those years.
