The Green Agenda is Collapsing
Is Net Zero dead? In this Sceptic Short, host Laurie Wastell is joined by Dr Tilak Doshi, economist, former contributor to Forbes and now the Daily Sceptic’s Energy Editor, to discuss how Donald Trump’s “Drill, baby, drill!” energy revolution is upending the global green agenda, why the climate censorship regime is collapsing and whether the writing is on the wall for Ed Miliband.

Too many people still captured and brainwashed I am afraid. They really believe the planet needs saving. 0.04% of C02 in the earth’s atmosphere is hardly an emergency. The environment and pollution needs looking after but fossil fuels are not dangerous. It is how we all live reasonable lives with food, clothing, energy, money and assets to survive.
It shows how poor Science is taught in schools.
It’s not just the important bits of Physics, Chemistry, Biology (and even Geology 🙂 ) that we obliviously rely on that need to be taught, it’s the fact that Science isn’t a set of facts handed down by experts.
It’s a mode of enquiry that each of has to undertake in order to understand how everything behaves, and that a theory has limits. For example, a theory doesn’t prove anything, it can only help an explanation and it can be demolished by experimental results. This makes the freedom to conduct Informed Discussion, without restriction, a necessity.
I’m not sure that this is even taught in universities, as Ed Miliband studied PPE, and look at the result.
Miliband did, however, read physics at A level, so he ought to know how science works. Actually, I’m convinced that he does, he’s just got too fragile an ego to admit that he’s been wrong all along
More likely Milliband is having his offshore accounts stuffed.
He did get rather ordinary grades though B in Physics and B in Further maths. A in English. So perhaps was wise to swich to the dire PPE Oxon course that has done so much harm to so many!
0.04 % CO2 is not an emergency but 0.03 % might be.
Should never have been born in the first place. “Weather attribution” is voodoo pseudoscience – flood, drought, fire and brimstone have been going on since time immemorial…
…Published in 1871, by George Fleming (1833 – 1901), Victorian military veterinarian and scholar: Animal Plagues – From B.C. 1490 to A.D. 1800. Accessible online in the Wellcome Collection:

Page 94: “A.D. 1325. A great drought in England. Here, in this and the following summer, there was so great a drought…
…In consequence of the drought, the great rivers of England were dried up, the springs failed, and in may places water had entirely disappeared. In consequence of this misfortune, great multitudes of animals, wild as well as domestic, perished of thirst.”
Source: Thomas Walsingham (1360-1422), Historia Anglicana.
No modern dams, no reservoirs, no electricity, no pumped water – just humanity and animals pitted against merciless nature for two summers in a row.
Green neophytes, grifters and billionaires just don’t know they’ve been born.
A.D. 1325
Mediaeval Warming Period… you know, the one that Mann “disappeared” (along with the LIA)
Yep, Medieval Warming’s Indian Summer. Mann’s a crook and a crock.
Small mercy but at least Mark Steyn got his punitive damages reduced from a mind boggling $1m to $5k. Steyn had been sued by Mann for defamation. Still another travesty of justice, e.g. “Judge Strikes All of Michael Mann’s Expert Witnesses from Libel Suit”.
Just read the in-depth Telegraph article on Lucy Connolly. Another travesty of justice.
It takes a special sort of blind narcissism to believe that the amount of carbon dioxide in the air is the prime driver of climate change and that anthropogenic carbon dioxide is a major component of that.
Climate change is far more complicated than that and no models capture the complexity of the various causes. Some of those causes (e.g. volcanic eruptions, earthquakes) are unpredictable and chaotic and so models will fail to predict the future.
Rather more practical, and much cheaper, to spend money and effort in making adaptations to climate change effects on humanity.
“You think man can destroy the planet? What intoxicating vanity.”
Michael Crichton (1944 – 2008)
Aside from an increasing number of studies that show rising CO2 is caused by rising temperature, not the other way around. Maybe look at that big thing in the sky and volcanos for the real reasons. Plus CO2 is absorbed by natural processes in 3-5 years, not the 100+ years the IPCC suggests.
Even AI has got in on the act with Grok producing the first paper where AI is listed as the primary author. The climate disaster crew were quick to jump on board saying “AI can get it wrong”. But it’s peer-reviewed… At this point, you can see their heads starting to spin because they want to say “But peer reviews aren’t perfect” which would lead to “So… that means that the pro-climate disaster peer reviewed papers could also be wrong”…
Googling the summary of the Grok paper, I came across somebody also asking Grok how to fix excess CO2. A trillion trees was suggested. There used to be a lot more forests in the UK. Planting trillions of trees is an idea I could get behind. I like trees and they’re a lot cheaper to plant than Milliband’s £££ CO2 scrubbers.
Megalomaniac narcissists are far from blind.
Hmm, if only. I live in Dorset and there have been multiple heathland fires over the last few days. At least two of them appear to have started overnight, yet the media are still claiming that it’s because of the “warm, dry weather” and the Independent today has started calling them “wildfires” and blaming the “extreme” weather conditions. The maximum daytime temperature we’ve had so far is 17C (for less than a week) and overnight it still drops close to zero. If these conditions are now classed as “extreme” then I despair. They’ve stopped just short of blaming actual climate change but the implication is definitely there; instead they claim that the cause is “unknown” when we all know, in the middle of the night, that it’s almost certainly teenagers with a lighted match…
Similar conditions in the Peak District. Had a nap cushioned in dry heather on a walk out yesterday.
Stand by for incendiary media, flaming June and national boiling adjacent to airport runways.
I know, I want to enjoy the lovely weather but sometimes my heart sinks as I wait for the “hottest whatever since whenever CLIMATE CATASTROPHE” headlines that will inevitably appear.
Although I seriously doubt it, can anybody confirm whether or not the IPCC models are published for review?
I remember back in 2020 Ferguson’s ridiculous model had to be prised out of his (Imperial) hands. I remember that it was trashed by US analysts. Of course, we soon found out for ourselves as the stats emerged.
Links to models might be buried in 1000-page tomes of IPCC reviews.
You’re right about the Imperial model – paper used word assume (or derivative thereof) over 40 times, thereby giving game away in wording.
I have a ‘I love CO2’ bumper sticker on my car. Occasionally people challenge me on it. My standard response is ‘ Carbon dioxide is the critical rate limiting factor in photosynthesis’. Most people say’ I don’t know what that means, and I go on to explain with more CO2 in the atmosphere plants grow bigger and stronger, are more drought tolerant and disease resistant.
As a biologist I have a list of references from botanical journals to support my statements
The instant I posted this a down thumb appeared. before anyone had time to read it
???
Moderator here. Interesting. Many Comments dont get any downvotes, so it’s probably not a system error. I’ll try and find out if its particular to you
The elites will not give up just because of the emerging effect on economies. They see NetZero as a way of controllinbg the people and making them totally dependant on the rulers.
The Climate Change Act is more insistent than the speaker suggests. It is not a possible cause of judges decisions but one they will have to use and they will do it with alactrity.
No voting buttons.
Keeping warm in Scotland tonight, with a huge battery storage facility on fire……
They are flaky charcters they will be knocked out of the way. It will be drill baby drill from now on. Europe is moving into a very cold period just at the time when it is becoming very impoverished and deprived of natural resources. Cold and nasty brings out the realists.
