New China Virus Outbreak “Overwhelming Hospitals” Sparks Panic Online – But Experts Urge Calm
A virus outbreak reported on social media to be “overwhelming hospitals” in China has sparked a panic online, but experts have urged calm while calling on Beijing to provide more information. The Mail has more.
Top British virus experts have called on Chinese authorities to disclose vital information about a worrying outbreak of the respiratory infection hMPV, which is reported to be overwhelming its hospitals.
The U.K. authorities “need more information on the specific strain circulating” in order to accurately assess the threat to the British public, warned virus expert Dr. Andrew Catchpole.
It comes as cases of the infection — which features cold-like symptoms — rise across the U.K., with graphs showing doubling in numbers over the last month.
Currently, as many as one in 20 cases of respiratory infections could be due to the infection, which is known as human metapneumovirus (hMPV), according to the latest U.K. surveillance data.
“hMPV is usually detected in the winter periods but it does seem that the rates of serious infection may be higher in China than what we would expect in a normal year,” said Dr. Catchpole, who is Chief Scientific Officer at infectious disease testing firm hVIVO.
“We need more information on the specific strain that is circulating to start to understand if this is the usual circulating strains or if the virus causing high infection rates in China has some differences.”
He added: “It is unclear just how high the numbers are or if issues are arising purely due to coinciding with high flu and Covid levels.”
Promisingly, Dr. Catchpole noted that while hMPV “does mutate and change over time with new strains emerging”, it is “not a virus considered to have pandemic potential”.
Speaking to MailOnline, multiple experts urged Brits not to panic, as the vast majority of infections cause “mild, cold-like symptoms”.
However, for those with compromised immune systems — very young children, the elderly and those with certain underlying conditions — the infection could lead to more serious disease.
“In young children, the elderly and those who are immune compromised, hMPV can lead to severe cases and can move to the lower respiratory tract and may lead to pneumonia,” warned Jaya Dantas, a Professor of International Health at Curtin University in Australia.
“We need to use a cautious and measured approach, as we know so much more since the Covid pandemic.”
Beijing has downplayed footage of overcrowded waiting rooms and wards posted on social media, saying respiratory infections are “less severe” and “smaller in scale” compared to last year.
That has led some to fear there are similarities with the current situation and the Covid outbreak in 2019, which was initially minimised by China.
Although British experts have remarked that the scenes in Chinese hospitals appear little different to that of U.K. healthcare at this time of year.

As long as we’re told when to panic, we should be okay.
🤣
“Virus experts”
Jog on.
As fox hunting is illegal, hunting virus experts instead might be a good idea. They’re certainly dangerous pests.
Tally ho!
Fox Ho, Tally Ho.
Collective noun for whom: A phlegm?
Gobshites!

So… it’s a cold, then.
Well yes but “Covid” was a cold and that caused the Deadliest Pandemic Evah.
So the numbers are unclear yet the panic button has already been pushed.
I think this China crisis is just wishful thinking. 😶
🎶
how many times have they tried to convince us of a new pandemic in the coming? What’s that again about doing the same thing and expecting a different outcome?
Grift alert.
Top British virus experts have called on Chinese authorities to disclose vital information about a worrying outbreak of the respiratory infection hMPV, which is reported to be overwhelming its hospitals. . . Currently, as many as one in 20 cases of respiratory infections could be due to the infection,
Which ‘top British experts’ are so concerned about a (possible – estimates again) 5% increase in a respiratory virus infection that apparently threatens to ‘overwhelm’ Chinese hospitals? Just how close to breaking point are these hospitals already, then, if they can’t cope with a small increase in respiratory cases in the middle of an otherwise unremarkable (‘normal’) winter?
Hospitals always operate close to their full capacity, because if they aren’t, surplus-to-requirements beds are being remove to “save costs”. The German health system actually continued this throughout of the so-called pandemic, ie, German hospital capacity was lower at the end of the COVID scam than at the start. It’s meanwhile certainly lower still.
and was laying off staff as well.
Anything with “expert” after is an oxymoron. Anyone with “expert” after is a Moron.
Alll so-called influenca-like-illnessesse have since ever had had pneumonia as complication in rare cases which can be lethal in even rarer cases.
During the heyday of the Covscam, a friend of my mother who was in her late 70s got hospitalized because of pneumonia twice in six months, once because of COVID and the second time because of some other cause nobody bothered to find out as it wasn’t COVID and hence, politically uninteresting. She was never particularly sick and the life-changing event in between was that she got married to her partner of some years so that he’d in future be allowed to visit her in hospital. They’re still a happily married couple.
Top British virus experts, that is, experienced British covscammer itching to covscam again, are hereby asked to foxtrott oscar. It’s winter and nothing out of the ordinary is happening. If the NHS spent less money on DEI initiatives and affirmative mutilation of teenager’s bodies, it would have more resources to deal with actual health issues which would be a good idea. That’s why it’s not going to be done.
Is there such a thing as a top ‘virus expert’, British or otherwise?
Quite possibly. It’s just when there isn’t a problem they won’t be speaking out because there isn’t a problem.
Makes a change from all that fake footage of people dying in the street
There is money to be made
If there is an infectious disease testing firm, I wouldn’t go near it.
French far-right politician Jean-Marie Le Pen dies at 96 says the BBC.
Was it hMPV or Covid? Or just being 96 in winter?
climate change I expect, combined with misogyny and post colonial disorder.
I’m very grateful Trump is being sworn in in 13 days and hopefully RFK in place shortly after. He no doubt remembers how “Covid” was used to rob him of the Presidency. Although he wasn’t consistently good through the process, he did say ‘we mustn’t let the cure be worse than the disease’ (he meant lockdowns, not the “vaccines”).
I’m struggling to see anything reported that is in anyway different to the sort of winter colds and flus we have experienced since time immemorial.
You forget that we know so much more since the Covid pandemic: A lot of people have learnt to what wonderful uses such everyday occurrences can be put to with just a little nudging, fear-mongering and liberal use of ominous subjunctives since Ferguson mistakenly believed they couldn’t get away with copying Chinese population control policies.
To put it into their own words: “it does seem that the rates of serious infection may be higher in China than what we would expect in a normal year.” Literally, this means nothing. But it’s seriously high on still somewhat subdued, dark undertones. That’s exactly the kind of statement which were used to drive COVID panic.
Ah but “Jaya Dantas, a Professor of International Health at Curtin University in Australia” says “…we know so much more since the Covid pandemic.”
They don’t even know where “covid” came from or what it is other than a list of symptoms as long as your arm!
If you want to know what “Professor of International Health” is, read this and weep:
Professor Jaya A R Dantas | Curtin University Staff Profile
A word salad of bullshit studies, unclear as to whether this woman actually has any proper medical qualifications at all.
Quote from these which (IMHO) sums it up (from Research Interests)
(2005): Earnest, J.; & Gillieatt, S. Adolescent refugee perspectives on psychosocial well-being. [Funded by Healthway Starter Grant] (AUD $ 20,000)
Earnest being her surname before Dantas. Whether that’s due to marriage, divorce or self-identification isn’t stated.
Sums it up, yes.
Thousands or maybe tens of thousands like her all over the world taking public money to do nothing useful
Sure, they know much more since the pandemic. They know that the majority of world leaders have no backbone and will protect their little games.
Jaya Dantas, a Professor of International Health at Curtin University in Australia.
Someone should have stepped in the moment all these faculties of nothing like a department of international health started being created.
I am reminded of this wonderful Monty Python sketch. It’s about the cosy, incestuous freeloading world of BBC panel games but applies here: Quiz show set-up. Two contestants either side, compère in the middle. On the back wall in large letters it says ‘It’s a Living’. Music plays brightly. Track quickly into compère, losing contestants, as he starts his quick spiel. CAPTION: ‘IT’S A LIVING’ Compère Hello, good evening, and welcome to ‘It’s A Living’. The rules are very simple: each week we get a large fee; at the end of that week we get another large fee; if there’s been no interruption at the end of the year we get a repeat fee which can be added on for tax purposes to the previous year or the following year if there’s no new series. Every contestant, in addition to getting a large fee is entitled to three drinks at the BBC or if the show is over, seven drinks – unless he is an MP, in which case he can have seven drinks before the show, or a bishop only three drinks in toto. The winners will receive an additional fee, a prize which they can flog back and… Read more »
HMPV. Yeah, had that one in 2023. It’s a coughy sort of thing. Averagely annoying. As succinctly put by another contributor here – jog on.
How do you know it was “HMPV”?
There was a dog and a gramaphone on the label?
Arf arf!
Pandemic, panic, pandemonium!
We won’t be fooled again.
(Not that most of us here were last time round).
Continuing the Who theme… ‘here’s the new scare, just like the old scare’
Here we go again.
Time to shut the people up and lock them away. the great reset has hit a block, best remove it through the old terror and tyranny get out.
You didn’t fool me last time so its not likely you will again. But those folks who were scared who bowed their heads, took the death shot, remember the old adage. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.
Trump and the change in focus from the socialist left in the EU has meant that our would be overlords are once more resorting to their playbook. Don’t let them.
It’s Winter Cold & ‘Flu season so time to get giddy about snotty noses, coughs and sneezes. NHS “overwhelmed” – well that is what happens when you reduce the available resources to reduce costs and have lazy staff.
Remember: there were more hospitals before 1948 then now.
And less people!
In the meantime, the local surgery I’m registered with is advertising ‘flu jabs; it emailed me today. Not keen on that offer – I rejected the C19 ones after all. Historically, just before C19 broke out, the NHS had widened the age range for free ‘flu jabs, but advertised it quite late in the season, and probably had a load of it in stock with short shelf lives.
I think I’ve already had it. I don’t think I’ll be queuing up for a vaccine…
I’ve no idea what I have had in this area. I have had many dozens of episodes in my life where I have had symptoms broadly consistent with “colds and flu” but have no clue what any of them were. They vary but it’s all so vague that I don’t see how anyone could tell what they have “had” – sometimes I have a headache, sometimes not, sometimes I’m snotty, queasy, etc etc.
There are so many strains that a vaccine may not be up to date anyway. Not sure they’re effective. They don’t seem to have the baggage of the mRNAs but many have Aluminum and various other contaminating factors. I topped up the typhoid jab a decade ago, not sure i’d even have that again now.
I’m not at all convinced that being “vaccinated” against cold type illnesses is a good idea. Do we know for sure that in the long term for most people that it’s not actually beneficial to be exposed to colds and have your body deal with them?
Not to fret! Bill Gates will come to everyone’s rescue with a “vaccine”, injected by insects, whether you want it or not:
Bill Gates is funding research to use mosquitoes as “flying vaccinators” – The Expose
OH MY GHOD NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. its flu. we’re all doooooomed
A virus with “cold like symptoms” in winter. Who’d have thought it?
Think you’ll find if anything it’s called a cold.
Worth reading in full? You sure? Looks like the usual panicking crap to me so I don’t think I’ll bother, thanks all the same.
This is just a cold, as the detail in the article makes clear. All colds can cause pneumonia in people with weak immune systems.
Mainstream media journalists are clearly nostalgic for the power they had during the COVID scamdemic. Journalists are the real threat to us, not viruses (or even virus “experts”).
I bet the Democrats are gutted they couldn’t transport it into the US prior to the elections 😂
I don’t care if there’s bodies in the Tesco aisles, I’m never complying again
“Panic online” FFS! Sound familiar? Why is this even being given a sentence, never mind a whole series of sentences and pretty graphs? Are we living in some kind of loop? Groundhog day?
Its bloody cold and flu season. The generic term ‘cold’; as in a common winter respiratory infection which has afflicted the human species for millennia without causing any serious threat to its existence, seems to have disappeared from the English language and been replaced by Covid.
Except… CONVID is a killer innit.
We’re still waiting for the killer bird flu to launch… not long now. There’s money to be made and the plebeians need a new crisis to keep them in line and its a whole new year!
We knew this was coming, its old news, still it gets media attention.
Quick, we need to save the NHS. WTF!
Just seen a headline in one of the daily BS rags… A&E in crisis as flu and respiratory virus rages….hmm where have I heard that before?
Like I said… groundhog day.
There is a lot of talk of something called Fogvid. The UK is due to get a dose next week. We have had its presence since September. It is a heavy fog and people going out in it report feeling very unwell even with very short exposures. Google it. Prepare to fight the fog. There are no methods or protocols you just have to make it up as you go along.
