Bid to Build Britain’s Biggest Muslim Cemetery
The billionaire Issa brothers have sparked uproar with plans for Britain’s biggest Muslim cemetery, a massive 45-acre site in Lancashire. The Mail has more.
Images show the huge scale of the proposed Memorial Garden site which would contain 12,250 burial plots, a funeral parlour and prayer halls.
The cemetery plan has been submitted by the billionaire Issa brothers on land near Oswaldtwistle, west of Blackburn, Lancashire, which has a population of just 10,815.
It would be bigger than Britain’s current biggest Muslim cemetery, the Gardens of Peace in East London which has 10,000 plots on 21.5 acres.
Thousands of residents have objected to the new cemetery which would be funded by siblings Zuber and Mohsin Issa, who own Cooplands and Leon. Mohsin also owns Asda, but his brother sold his stake.
They cite concerns over congestion and wildlife on greenland where the cemetery would be built.
An earlier application to build an 85-acre cemetery on the site was fiercely opposed by residents and withdrawn earlier this year before being replaced with a smaller one.
A group called ‘Say No to the Cemetery’ has thousands of members and they even have a fundraising page for experts to help them challenge the application.
It’s not the first time the wealthy siblings have caused a row. Earlier this year they faced anger from locals in their hometown of Blackburn over plans to build five luxury mansions so their families could live together. …
The brothers originally proposed to build 35,000 burial plots, prayer pavilions and caretaker accommodation and 752 car parking spaces on 84 acres of land.
They scaled back plans after a backlash to 12,250 burial plots, a single pavilion complex of funeral parlour, prayer halls, condolence rooms and ablutions facilities and 356 parking spaces.
The application has been registered and is due to go to the planning committee in the new year.

Don’t really get the issue.
If you let lots od Muslims into the country, eventually they’ll need to be buried somewhere. What’s the alternative?
There is not an alternative short of making them all leave the country or be cremated.
If I lived there I might object too, just out of being a nimby. I wonder how many of the objectors have voted consistently for parties that promise to reduce immigration. Reform got 20% of the vote there in the last election so 80% of those who voted either support mass immigration or its not a big issue for them.

Slots for ashes in Italian cemeteries are not forever, though longer than 3 years. Can’t remember time limits on UK graves – maybe 100 years?
Send your departed ones back to the land of their ancestors.
Oswaldtwistle has a 60% Christian population, and a 2% or 3% Muslim population. So I can see how having this cemetery on their doorstep, would rankle.
Blackburn is a different kettle of fish. It is a heavily populated Muslim area.
It’s the natural consequence of Islamification, is it not? Just like how they’re snapping up churches to convert to mosques. It’s inevitable when you just keep on increasing the numbers in the country. Of course they’ll get planning permission, it’s a given.
