Three of Lucy Letby’s Victims Had Deaths “Explained by Medical Problems”, Leaked Report Concluded

Three baby deaths for which Lucy Letby was convicted had medical explanations and may have been preventable with better care, a leaked expert report not seen by the original jury concluded. The Telegraph has the story.

Dr. Jane Hawdon, a Consultant Neonatologist, of the Royal Free Hospital in London, was asked to review the spike in deaths and collapses at the Countess of Chester Hospital in 2016.

She found that the death of Babies C, D and E could be “explained” and “may have been prevented with different care”. Dr. Hawdon concluded that “learning” may improve outcomes for other babies.

Letby was convicted of killing all three infants by a fatal injection of air.

Dr. Hawdon also identified major or significant suboptimal clinical care in 14 out of 17 cases.

The consultant is due to give evidence on Tuesday at the Thirlwall Inquiry, which is looking into how babies could have been protected at the hospital.

Mark McDonald, Letby’s new barrister who is planning to take her case to the Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC), said: “Dr. Hawdon found explanations for many of the so-called ‘unexplained’ collapses of the babies but maybe more important was the concerns raised by Dr. Hawdon on suboptimal care on the unit and the questioning of the medical experience of some of the doctors.

“This along with other reports showed that this was a unit arguably in crisis.”

Letby was convicted of the murder of seven babies and the attempted murder of seven more, but since her conviction, many statisticians, doctors and scientists have come forward to question the evidence.

A leaked copy of Dr. Hawdon’s report – which was never seen by the jury in the original trial – showed she thought 13 of the 17 deaths and collapses could be explained.

The consultant made several recommendations, including that out-of-hours attendance by consultants should be reviewed, and that staff should be given further help with intubating babies and the timely administration of antibiotics.

In four cases – Baby A, Baby I, Baby O and Baby P – the consultant considered the deaths unexplained and said there should be a forensic review.

The above chart shows the spike in neonatal deaths where Lucy Letby worked was not an unusual occurrence.

The irony is hilarious but not for Lucy. Lady Justice Thirlwall is a senior Court of Appeal judge. So as she and her mates keep on refusing Lucy’s appeals she is hardly likely to want to contemplate the reality in the middle of “her inquiry” that Lucy was convicted by the same bent IMHO judicial system and English Bar of which Thirlwall is a most prominent part. So here we are with Lucy’s case. Here we can read about evidence which if put to a jury would have resulted in Lucy’s acquittal so it would never have gotten into the clutches of what is clearly IMHO a bent Court of Appeal. Surely Thirlwall is conflicted and should resign? Don’t forget other miscarriage of justice cases like the Post Office scandal in which the same judges would hear the same cases over and over again and the same barristers would be retained to prosecute totally innocent people. So the question DS readers should be asking themselves is – did no one on the judicial and bar’s gravy train not for just one moment think there was something odd about so many people all suddenly nicking money when not only did they… Read more »

As for irony, here is irony in Thirlwall’s terms of reference – she is inquiring into Lucy’s supposed murders of babies – so let us see how exactly that is set out:

“(i) whether suspicions should have been raised earlier, whether Lucy Letby should have been suspended earlier and whether the police and other external bodies should have been informed sooner of suspicions about her

(ii) the responses to concerns raised about Lucy Letby from those with management responsibilities within the trust

(iii) whether the trust’s culture, management and governance structures and processes contributed to the failure to protect babies from Lucy Letby”

Of course Thirlwall will not resign because IMHO like all the judges and barristers responsible for IMHO keeping their mouths shut about the Post Office miscarriages of justice scandal whilst happily continuing to get paid whilst doing so, resigning means tearing up the five year gravy train season ticket.

People like Thirlwall just disgust me. Take a look at her picture on the inquiry website

They’ll never admit they were wrong will they? Anyone with any power is the same. They don’t resign, they get gongs or other cushy jobs and then retire leaving ashes behind them.

I give you Justin Welby. Christian? Don’t make me laugh. No shame, no integrity, he should be summoned by the Head of the CoE, the King, who should DEMAND his resignation forthwith. But WEF Charlie won’t do that will he?

Agree, he has single-handedly done more harm to CoE than anyone.

The other day, one of the presenters on another channel categorised Smyth as being similar to Jimmy Savile. Historically, there is quite a list of similar characters that did well on the BBC (alright, it had a monopoly back then). The CofE’s attitude being like that of the BBC. Achieving a good reputation via popular media has long been the modus operandi of such people.

They cost less than the equivalent man and do at least as bad a job as a man if not better than as bad. So a very reliable choice for our corrupt Whitehall to recommend for such jobs.

Women, when they get going can be vicious.

NB. This is not sexist to women. Just being fair and acknowledging how they can often outperform the equivalent man when needed.

I think the realisation that the letby conviction was unsound is spreading even in the corridors of power, and I think she will eventually get an appeal.

I certainly hope so. It really does seem that the original trial was little better than a kangaroo court.

Here is my reply and support. From day one my friends thought I was gaga, defending a vile murderer. Then when I tried to point out the unreliable ‘evidence’, they started making excuses, eg the jury unanimously convicted her; the judge was fair; the ‘evidence’ was overwhelming; the families deserve justice….. At the time, I was convinced that the jurors and the public had watched a film called The Good Nurse, starring Eddie Redmayne and Jessica Chastain, two A listers, so no one can claim not to have watched that. The doctors or experts must have watched that too! The plot is similar – a nurse injected insulin into patients, causing death. The actor is a serial killer. He killed before and moved from one victim to another. He was caught. Now, without evidence of insulin in the body of those babies, how could the ‘expert’ make it up? Well, he must have watched this movie. And how could the judge and the prosecution, and the defence, sadly, not counter argue this point? There are so many holes in the prosecution’s case, the judge should have halted the proceedings after one day. The jury was misdirected (according to reports) by… Read more »

I agree with your pessimism. Time and again we hear of all kinds of injustice carried out by our state and institutions. Too many so-called professional people are caught up in a corrupt system, are unwilling to break free and go with their conscience – or have no morals at all. Ordinary people are outraged but most are afraid of the revolution it needs to put things right. I still hope for justice for Lucy Letby, freedom for Tommy Robinson and all our political prisoners.

LizT has already mentioned here that bent bastard Justin Welby.

Welby should go to gaol for life for letting his mate Barrister Smyth carry on his evil deeds. I wonder if Welby has any disgusting pictures on his phone or computer courtesy of Smyth? Has anyone looked?

That Welby is a dark satanic force for evil in this world IMHO is clear from his ridiculous constantly repeated supposed moralistic outpourings on woke issues which have nothing to do with God.

Why does he take the public political positions he does? It is all part of destabilising our social structures and values.

The guy is IMHO one of the greatest frauds and crooks who has ever set foot on this planet.

He takes all these public positions pretending to be a man of high morals when he is worse than bent as a nine pound note.

Excellent comment, but you are unjust to castigate DS commenters for not responding as quickly as you did, four hours ago, when it was only about 5:00 o’clock in the morning here in this Green and Pleasant Land !!!

You must either be living abroad, or get up at 4:00 in the morning to have your breakfast before commenting on here by 5:00…

While we are on the subject of miscarriages of justice, spare a thought for the political prisoner languishing in the hellhole that is the badly run HMP Woodhill. If you feel moved to do so, please send him a birthday card

And still lurking in the shadows behind all this is the Ethnic Indian Dr. Ravi Jayaram, who gave conflicting evidence, and would have been blamed for the babies’ deaths as head of the unit, if he had not succeeded in shifting all blame to Lucy.

Just saw this completely new twist on the case. Remember when the prosecutors and media were insinuating that Lucy was having an affair with a senior doctor? They failed to mention this: Lucy Letby was victim of a ‘witch hunt’ because she rejected a senior doctor’s advances, inquiry into the baby-killing nurse hears | Daily Mail Online Here are some interesting public comments: — “I have a gut feeling that there is more to this we aren’t hearing. All these little bits of info are coming out like the bacteria in the pipes/taps, her writing those notes because her therapist told her to, the original reports that most of the babies died of natural causes. Now this? Everytime we hear something now, it casts doubt on her being guilty. I think she needs a retrial, but the NHS will always cover Thier own ar$ es cos that’s what they do. And shift the blame onto anyone who is naive. I work for the NHS and the amount of time I get the blame for stuff others have done, just so the higher ups can write on the report that it’s been ‘dealt with’ even though they have spoke to the… Read more »

Another eye-opening public comment:

“Speak to an average Nurse or Midwife, and they will tell you how often male, arrogant Consultants try to bully them into accepting Consultants decisions as sacrosanct. Recently a Nurse I knew had to go and get a Consultant urgently for a Baby who had deteriorated and the Consultant wasn’t answering his pager. His first comment to her was – ‘Who the @@@@ are you ?’ “

We need an inquiry not into Lucy but into the English Bar and the Judiciary and the extent of corruption in both that lead to these scandalous injustices for ordinary innocent people whilst they get paid gazillions and sup champagne on it.
