SNP Says There Are 24 Genders
Scotland’s SNP Government has said there are 24 genders in a list of options attached to official guidance for data collection bodies. The Mail has more.
Scotland’s SNP Government has been branded “disconnected from the real world” after allowing people to choose their gender from a list with 24 options.
Trans people in the country can choose from options including some more mainstream options like “trans man”, “trans woman”, “genderfluid” and “androgynous”.
But among the two dozen options are other terms like “questioning”, where they do not yet know what gender they are, and “autigender” which is described as “an autistic person (who) thinks about and relates to their gender label… in the context of autism”.
The list was attached last week to guidance for public bodies in Scotland who collect data on sex and gender. It allows them to classify freehand answers given to questions about trans status.
But it comes after First Minister John Swinney in July confirmed there were only two genders.

So, Scotland has many more genders than it has ferries that work! And of course they have more genders than the number of senior SNP people who’ve been arrested in the hunt for the missing £600k! Very encouraging to know that the SNP are getting their priorities right, and being good custodians of English taxpayers’ largesse….

I’m not really sure what people by mean by “gender” and I am not sure they do either, but whatever “gender” is, it’s not really for government ministers to “confirm” how many there are. Perhaps he means “legal genders”, conferring access to toilets, which prison you go to – presumably based on your biological sex as hopefully recorded at birth and optionally overridden by some kind of “sex change” legal process they presumably have. If there are now 24, they either need to build some more prisons and toilets or categorise all 24 as either male or female (or both maybe?) which makes a nonsense of saying there are 24…

Perhaps it is just a Scottish thing? Back in the 1950s, when I was first being taught about the natural world, I was told that there are two sexes, male and female and that they are necessary for the propagation of the species (although some plants can be self-fertile). When it comes to gender, there are three genders, male, female, and neuter, and that gender is a grammatical construct. I was also taught not to confuse sex and gender; always to keep the distinction between natural, biological sex, and the abstract grammatical use of gender. What has happened? Is it that we now have so much relative wealth that more and more people do not have to worry about finding shelter and food and are able to let their febrile minds wander into areas where they are poorly educated and come up with ridiculous ideas?
I totally agree with you that gender is a grammatical thing, but it is masculine, feminine and neuter. Male and female are exclusively descriptions of someone’s sex.

I am thinking maybe ‘prefer not to say’? The minute they introduce the ‘other’ category they have lost me.
Or should I just tick the ‘female’ box?

What we can be sure of is there are 24 levels of insanity in the SNP.
SNP are clearly not being inclusive, by reducing the number of genders to just 24. Don’t they even attempt to keep up? According to http://www.medicinenet.com there are 72 genders – other than male and female. Nobody knows what they are of course but never mind, just humour them.
