Labour’s Poll Lead Wiped Out

More schadenfreude for those Tories who simply can’t get enough of this feeling after 100 days of Keir Starmer’s premiership – Labour’s poll lead has vanished. The party is now neck and neck with the Conservatives. The Spectator’s Steerpike has more.

Happy 100 days of Labour being in power! To mark this auspicious occasion, the British electorate have decided to give Keir Starmer a present that he really did not want – the end of Labour’s lead in the polls after a whopping 934 days. Yes, that’s right: the Starmer army have led in every single survey since March 2022 when Boris Johnson was gripped by his partygate woes. The subsequent Liz Truss debacle saw Labour’s lead climb to 30 points, with Rishi Sunak regularly suffering 20 point deficits. Yet after less than four months in office, that trend has now been completely reversed. Guess governing is harder than it looks eh Keir…

Worth reading in full.

The Express also has the story:

Sir Keir Starmer has had a nightmare start to his new government with a bombshell new poll revealing Labour’s recent huge lead over the Conservative Party has totally collapsed.

Historically new governments that have swept to victory in a General Election are afforded somewhat of a honeymoon period before the going gets tough.

But a new poll has revealed that goodwill for Labour has already crashed – just 100 days after taking office – with results likely to leave Sir Keir red-faced.

Polling by the More in Common think tank has delivered a devastating assessment of Labour’s first 100 days in power, reports the Times.

According to the survey of more than 2,000 people, Labour’s poll lead has crashed as the party is now tied with the Tories on 27% each. Reform UK is on 21%.

Tomorrow’s ‘global investment summit’ was supposed to be the beginning of a ‘reset’, in which Sir Keir shows how serious he is about attracting foreign investment into the British economy. But that’s turned out to be another clusterf***, thanks to the impolitic remarks of Louise Haigh, the Transport Secretary, who described P&O as a “rogue employer”, prompting a row with P&O’s parent company, DP World, who then threatened to boycott the summit. Jonathan Reynolds, the Business Secretary, did the rounds of Westminster television studios this morning, trying to smooth things over. Predictably, it did not go well. The Mail has more in a story headlined: ‘Another Day, Another Labour Meltdown.’

What high energy prices doesn’t chase away, employment regulation will.

I ain’t no economist like Rachel ‘get-the-coffees-at-the-BoE’ Reeves. But I struggle to understand how any serious business would want to chuck its money into a country with the world’s highest energy prices. Especially as Mad Minibrain will be doubling energy prices and implementing energy rationing within the next few years due to his crazed Net Zero lunacy

Well exactly, Lee. It’s been like watching a particularly inept slo-mo car crash for the last 100 days, so what will the next 100 days bring?

”THIS IS INSANE!

Elon Musk, the richest man in the world, WANTS to invest in the UK. But because this thin-skinned, childish Labour gov’t didn’t like a sodding social media post, they’ve snubbed him.

This is what happens when student politics meets reality. Absolute madness!”

Meanwhile, Elon was a bit preoccupied with this today, so I’m sure he’ll get over Labour’s snub;

Here’s another one. I’m not even that into space stuff ( the robotics stuff is more my bag, which is super cool ) and I’m impressed. I wonder if Starmer agrees;

”SpaceX catching a Rocket successfully. This is absolutely mind-blowing. Thanks Elon Musk and SpaceX”

Catching rockets was done successfully many years ago. But it was scrapped then because it wasn’t ecomonic. It’s still a terribly wasteful way of sending stuff into space. SpaceX would rather not do it, either, but Elon says it looks cool and therefore it must be done, because people then believe him to be an engineer, and because getting the state to throw other people’s money at you for crazy projects is just soooo cool too. So there.

I’m very impressed with his robots though. I’d say, honestly, they’re 90% cool 10% creepy. I’ve watched enough Sci-Fi now to not forget how these things and this level of tech advancement can go horribly wrong, but nobody can deny this is very impressive;

They aren’t his robots. The guys and gals at Boston Dynamics who built it up from nowhere flogged it to Tesla recently.

Tesla wasn’t his either. He demands to be referred to as the founder, but he is no such thing.

Same with Paypal. But the board chucked him out because he was wrecking the place.

The guy is a total con and has zero engineering credentials. Zero credentials full stop.

But whatever. I know he has gathered a lot of fans for “supporting free speech” on Twitter. But when the wind changes direction, he’ll turn it back into another tool of censorship and tyranny, mark my words.

transmissionofflame

He has “supported free speech” a great deal more than whoever was running Twitter before him, and a great deal more than other major social media platforms. I am not a “fan” of him or anyone else, just give credit where it is due. I don’t much care about his other ventures.

He gives vocal support to other causes and opinions that I agree with, so I am glad to have him on “my side” at least in those things, for now. Goodness knows I am in enough of a minority already.

Marcus Aurelius knew

He is currently supporting a narrative which currently suits him. It happens to be a narrative which aligns with yours. For now.

No offence meant. I am not bitter or anything, I know that there have always been people like him and always will be. Just telling you what I know.

transmissionofflame

I don’t quite know why it would suit him to make himself unpopular with the establishment, unless he is doing all this to get on the right side of Trump and hoping he wins the election.

As always, I will try to keep an open mind.

No beef. Just telling you what I know.

His net worth is totally tied up in TSLA. A stock which is a house of cards, totally dependent upon the Net Zero scam.

I think you miss the point of all great pioneers; they have the ability to recognise what can be done even when nobody else can see it. What makes them truly great is that they make it happen. It matters not whether they originate the idea, very few inventors of anything have gone on to be successful businessmen on their own. I can only think of one to be honest in the modern era; Dyson.
Musk is brilliant at making things happen and looking far further than anyone else does. He also has an uncanny ability to put together teams that achieve, indeed exceed, the aims time after time in different areas.

On X there is a video of the successful launch and recovery of the latest SpaceX rocket.

The rocket returns, tail first, flames pouring from the bottom, steers into the two waiting arms of a tower which grab the rocket as it touches down to secure it.

It is a remarkable feat. The man responsible for this, Elon Musk, is not invited to the global investment summit, because… reasons.

Labour received 9,708,716 votes in the last election.
The total registered electorate was 48.2 million.
This means 38,491,284 electors did not vote for Labour.
Only 20% of the electorate voted for Labour, and 80% didn’t.
And now Labour are behaving as if they have a mandate to lord over everyone. Doesn’t look like a fair system to me.

It’s beyond me why anyone is tipping up for Free Gears Conference, unless, of course, they have been offered bungs to do so. Who in their right mind would invest in this country, given that any profit you do manage to make will be taken off you before you get to say “Armani”? I can only conclude they should have gone to Specsavers.

I remember a game in the Bundesliga in the seventies where Bochum were leading Bayern 5-0 at half time. In the second half Bayern scored 6 to win the game 6-5. Football like Politics as Jimmy greaves said “Is a funny old game Saint”——-Reform and the Conservatives when they get this leader thing sorted must do a Bayern on this dreadful Government.

I agree, the funny thing is that the first 100 days of a new Conservative leader is more crucial than Free Gears: it is the one chance in the next 5 years for the leader to be listened to. We need to see the new leader announcing precisely what they will be doing in their 100 days in charge in 2029. First up has to be leaving the ECHR, anything short of that simply means the split vote could put Labour back in power.
I want to see Leave The ECHR, a new law which states no illegal immigrant will ever stay here, rolling of the fuel allowance into the state pension, removal of all EU Laws in the first week, not just the first 100 days.

Having worked in corporate finance all my life both as a lender and borrower, this conference is all smoke and mirrors. If you could see the management information and projections, the investment would have been in place for years not three months. As for the Go Ahead announcement (originally weeks ago) for a fleet of urban incendiary devices, sorry I mean electric buses, I doubt there will be a single extra vehicle on the road. These will be replacing end of life vehicles that have come to the end of their leasing agreement and are ready for replacement.

The thing these idiots cannot understand is so-called “Employment Rights” aren’t worth spit if there’s no employment, particularly if it’s because of “Employment Rights”. France is a great example.

“Employment Rights” increase costs and those costs end up in selling prices, being paid for by consumers.

Free markets prosper, regulated markets don’t. The unlearnable lesson for Lefty-loons.

Companies are managed by people and financed by shareholders and they will relocate/locate in the most conducive regulatory climate for employment and other areas, and taxation.

These days that means the BRICS Countries.
