Tory-Hating Carol Vorderman Sells £450,000 Flat in Wales After Being Hit by Labour’s War on Second Homes

Carol Vorderman has ditched her Welsh “forever home” after a Labour council tax hike tripled her bill. The Mail on Sunday has the story.

She became the ultimate turncoat Tory, transforming herself from friendly TV presenter to Labour-supporting, social-media warrior.

But Carol Vorderman appears to have become the latest victim of Labour’s crackdown on second home owners – selling her luxury apartment in Wales after the local authority trebled her council tax.

Pembrokeshire Council opted for a 200% increase from April this year – which meant her annual bill for the property she once described as her “forever home” shot up from £1,700 to more than £5,000. …

The ex-Countdown presenter, who once fronted David Cameron’s maths taskforce and was even pictured having a playful snowball fight with him at Westminster in 2009, has become more famous in recent years for her alleged online ‘trolling’ of Tory ministers, as well as her vocal support for Sir Keir Starmer. …

Locals said there was an exodus of second home owners in the area after the 200% council tax premium came into force. There were 135 second homes for sale in July this year compared to just 38 last year.

One would have thought that a few grand would be pocket change for the fragrant Vorders.

Indeed.
I mean, call me ignorant, but how much does a haircut cost for a celebrity?

You forget the – ahem – shall we say “facial enhancements”. They don’t come cheap (even if the results look as if they did).

It’s very expensive making a 60 yr old try and look like a 25 yr old tart.

Our new chancelor’s tax plans are likely to mean that a great deal of well=off Lefties get hit in the pocket by their “friends” who are currently in government.

I don’t think Vorderman is actually that bright. All show and no substance. She certainly likes flashing her ample parts about trying to be a 25 year-old in a very old woman’s body

She’s obviously very insecure. To think the RAF made her an honorary Gp Capt. Not sure anyone comes out of that well.

The idiocy of councils that do this for a very short term money grab. The locals don’t buy the homes, so they remain on the market unsold, probably empty, the second home owners no longer visit, so tourist money is lost, quiet villages with no easy access to places of work, resturn to a deserted state. Finally the council loses both taxes and the benefits of revenue, plus businesses collapse. Idiots.

Nothing short-sighted about this. Nor is it the council that came up with this plan. It comes from Davos. All the livestock have to be moved into the cities, and sell their houses for a pittance to us, and be grateful if they get any money out of it at all. Start with the richer ones to set the precendent, so that the herd won’t get spooked. Then gradually expand.

“Labour’s war on second homes”?

The Conservatives in 2023 passed the Levelling Up and Regeneration Act, which among other things gave local authorities in England the power to double council tax on second homes.

Levelling-up and Regeneration Act 2023 (legislation.gov.uk)

It seems on this as on so much else, the Conservatives (sic) and Labour agree. This is a “Labour/Conservative” war on second homes.

Let’s not laugh too much at this. This is a pilot scheme for taxing everyone into sell their homes. Who do you think will buy Carol’s house? No sane person. Only a corporation, private or public; i.e. an agent of the Enemy. “You [individuals] will own nothing.”

Buy a caravan and burn your house down before you leave.

I can only hope that nobody buys it and she is forced to cough up for years.
