France and U.K. Need “Showdown” Over Channel Crossings Because of Britain’s Lax Labour Laws, Calais Mayor Demands

France and Britain need a showdown over Channel migrants because of Britain’s lax approach to black market work, the mayor of Calais has said, after at least 12 migrants died on Tuesday when their crammed dinghy sank. The Telegraph has the story.

Natacha Bouchart accused Britain of being “hypocritical” over the surge in crossings when illegal migrants were being drawn to Britain because it was seen as an “El Dorado” due to its lax approach to black market work.

She said France would have to confront Britain over it if they were to stop Channel crossings which saw at least 12 migrants die on Tuesday when their dinghy, crammed with some 65 people, broke up and sank three miles off the French coast.

Ten of the 12 dead were women including one who was pregnant and six were “minors”. Most are thought to be from Eritrea. Only eight of the 65 were wearing lifejackets.

Gerald Darmanin, the French Interior Minister, who has also criticised the U.K.’s lax labour laws for fuelling the crossings, called for a new treaty that would allow migrants to claim asylum in the U.K. from the EU.

“We’re suffering from this hypocrisy,” said Ms. Bouchart, referring to labour legislation in England and the existence of numerous British smugglers.

“At some point, we’re going to have to have a showdown with this Government” to avoid “in 50 years’ time (being) still at the same level, with people wanting to go to England because it continues to be an El Dorado,” she added.

Didier Leschi, Director of the French Office of Immigration and Integration (Ofii), said: “The issue for England is to have an internal system that appears to be an El Dorado – and probably wrongly so – since it’s a country where you can work very easily without having a residence permit.”

I’ve just posted this elsewhere but why is it that whenever we hear of migrants drowning crossing the Channel they always get reported as ”women and children” and yet you never ever see footage of women and children either on the boats or disembarking from the boats? Always men. Also, why on earth would they even make that final, treacherous leg of the journey anyway when they’re already on mainland Europe? And this especially applies to any pregnant women or parents travelling with kids. It just doesn’t make any sense to take such a risky trip across the water when it’s not even necessary. I actually don’t know why any of the migrants want to make the effort to travel across the water on an overloaded rubber dinghy. I can only guess it’s because the UK is touted as the ‘Land of Milk and Honey’ and for some reason it’s worthwhile and seen as desirable for migrants to head for as their final destination, although I would’ve said Germany is as cushy if not cushier a country for migrants to end up. Here’s a clip of Adam Brookes on GBN talking complete sense, but he’s sat next to that bloody… Read more »

Many migrants will have a little English but not other languages (except perhaps, French). This is part of what makes the UK a preferred destination. Obviously migrants from Francophone Africa may expect to find it easier to get along in France rather than stay in Italy or Spain – or Germany.

My guess is Francophone migrants find spoken French in France rather different to what they’re used to. Similarly I think migrants seeking to settle in an English speaking country might find Liverpool, Newcastle, Glasgow or Belfast (and many other places) a bit of a shock.

I think the point about the ease of finding black market work in the UK is credible. However, I doubt migrants would be able to live ‘well’ on such an income.

Could be a combination of factors but the point is surely to make a country less desirable, not more, and I can see that what the migrants get when they arrive on British shores is very appealing and I can foresee it only getting worse with Labour in charge. In contrast, over here we have these ‘bead-bath-bread’ shelters for undocumented migrants, but now the government has declared it will stop funding these as of Jan next year. I welcome this decision but I’m in one of the five cities mentioned and the authorities here are not happy with this decision as their argument is these migrants will end up on the streets and might turn to crime and public safety will take an inevitable hit. I don’t know why, if they can’t be put to work for whatever reason, they can’t just be taken to an airport and plonked on a plane home. It’s only as complicated as people want to make it. No doubt they’ll find alternative ways of funding these shelters anyway, the amount of ”refugees welcome” people there are around. ”Groningen and Eindhoven are still considering how to finance the National Aliens Facility (LVV) now that Asylum… Read more »

I don’t think risking your life on a dodgy dingey a plausible reason to get here just because they speak English.

It was reported that for every one migrant that entered Canada 40 members of their extended family would eventually follow. The first entrant may be prepared to make sacrifices to establish their family presence.

Yes i saw that last night, and during the mandates Nina wondered why she had so many death threats. For a woman to risk her child crammed into a raft like that is irresponsible to say the least. Does she also get tanked up on alcohol while pregnant too!

Ron, I’m doubtful there even was a woman, let alone a pregnant one, purely because I’m yet to see a single female arrive on the boats, and that’s going by seeing masses of footage now. I’m sure there must be women somewhere but where they are is anyone’s guess, so I’m remaining 100% sceptical about this particular assertion. They’re always after creating a narrative, remember. We’re meant to feel sympathy for these migrants and actually *want* to welcome them in. Well we saw their level of integrity and accurate, factual reporting during the Scamdemic, plus it’s the bloody Telegraph! As far as I’m concerned it’s all men coming across on those boats, until proven otherwise.

Both the fake Tories and Labour want mass immigration. The only difference between Labour and the fake Tories is that Labour are more honest about the issue.

Barnier being appointed PM of France. Who won the election?
Tusk in Poland. Rutte at NATO. Short odds on von der Lyen getting hauled back Betlin to head up an anyone but AfD government. Pretty soon the entire band will be back together.

to avoid “in 50 years’ time (being) still at the same level”

It will be a basket case way before then at this rate, and even they would not want to come here!

It obviously beggars belief that our wonderful govt, so adept at locking up people for hurty farcebook posts ( less adept at catching murderers and paki paedos) cannot lock up all these people traffickers and scuttle their boats.

Simples.

Locating people who post stuff on facebook is easy. Locating people in (fairly) small boats on the open sea isn’t. Plus, even if the could be located, there’s nothing which can be done about it. UK law doesn’t apply to most of it and even insofar it does apply, people only turn into illegal immigrants once they’ve actually crossed the border without leave to remain or some other good reason, eg, an emergency on a holiday trip or something like that.

Sorry pal but that’s nonsense. Follow the boats with drones catch them once they enter british waters, arrest the crew sink the boats return the migrants to France job done.

As civilian vessels, they’re free to enter British waters and it’s only known that the people on them meant to immigrate illegaly after they have actually done so. Until then, the boat is private property belonging to someone else who’s free to transport as many people on it as he sees fit.

But that’s a rather theoretical concern because nobody’s going to find these boats, except by being unusually lucky, as the sea is vast and entirely without landmarks and something that’s small enough to avoid detection by radar (and is built out of materials which don’t reflect radar well) will avoid detection.

What’s this guy smoking? Since the invention of the hostile environment by Theresa May, employers, landlords and bank employees are required to check that someone has a right to rent, work or open a bank account and not doing so is a criminal offence which may lead to a prison sentence.

It is men you can see that by walking around any British city. These aren’t the best and the brightest. They look like dregs even by Thild World standards and that isn’t by accident. The immigrant trade is very lucrative. The Brits operate on a complete open door basis. Doesn’t matter if you are a member of the criminal class who has raped fifteen chidren we welcome you because you facilitate cheap labour. People in other countries laugh about it. I have relatives who used to come to this country for two months in the summer and now they feel that they have to leave after a few days. They laugh about how unlikely it is to get a white taxi driver for example.

There is no solution to this problem. The reasons that migrants flock to Britain are, in no particular order:

1. English, the lingua franca

2. We have an historical reputation of being the most welcoming country.

3. We don’t have identity cards, which I’m in favour of, but sadly that makes it far easier to live here illegally.

We’re a magnet to immigrants for those reasons. And let’s face it, whatever we think of Macron et al, none of them are being persecuted in France..

3. We don’t have identity cards, which I’m in favour of, but sadly that makes it far easier to live here illegally. Not really. I have two German identity documents registered with the home office, a passport and a German ID card (Personalausweis). In order to be allowed to sign a rent contract, take up employment or open a bank account, I have to log into a home office web site, prove that I do actually own one of these identity documents by providing a photo of the so-called machine-readable section and generate a code. I then have to give this code to the person handling this on the other side who can use it to check that I’m actually legally resident in the UK by using another home office online service. Until this has happened, no one is legally allowed to enage in such a business transaction with me and people who do so nevertheless can be fined up to £3000 or be sent to prison. The only way people can live illegally in the UK is if they stay out of the legal economy alltogether, ie, work illegally for someone willing to break the law to save some… Read more »

The British government is advertising day and night inviting these people in soyou shouldn’t blame the chancers and those wanting to find a better life. They do tjhis in virtually every poor country in the world. In the poorer areas of the country almost all of the gains in employment have been jobs filled with recent immigrants. Employment amongst white British people has fallen against a backdrop of lower general unemployment. Just deomonstrate this to the masses because it has been kept well hidden. Of course they are malnourished and malcultured at this point but there is still a way back.

Mayor of Calais complains Britain isn’t quite yet a Fascist State like France.

However.

Any Country with strict employment laws, high taxation and regulation particularly affecting small businesses, will have a substantial black market in labour – and France does, notwithstanding what M Le Maire says.

Legal cash transaction in France were reduced from10 000€ three years ago to 1 000€ – pretext was to prevent terrorism (?), but the reality, too much work being done off the books.
