Pride in Britain’s History Plummets to Record Low After Decade of Woke Self-Hatred

Pride in Britain’s history has plummeted to a record low since 2013, a major survey has found, as woke self-loathing takes its toll and the wartime generation dies out. The Telegraph has more.

Just 64% of the public said they were “proud” or “very proud” of Britain’s history in the British Social Attitudes Survey 2023, down from 86% in 2013 and the lowest proportion since the question was first asked in 1995.

Alex Scholes, the Senior Researcher at the National Centre for Social Research (NatCen), which conducted the survey, said there was a connection between changing attitudes and the fact that there are fewer people alive today who lived through or fought in the Second World War.

“It definitely has an impact,” Mr. Scholes said. “History is possibly the standout area because that’s where we’ve seen the greatest drop over the past decade.

“It was consistently over 80% between 1995 and 2013 and now it’s 64% and that’s quite a sizeable drop in the last decade.”

Even the youngest people who can remember living through the Second World War are now in their mid to late 80s.

Polling has consistently shown that those who fought in or lived through the war, and their children, are more patriotic than younger generations.

A YouGov poll of 4,611 people in April found that 81% of those aged 65 or above were “very” or “fairly” patriotic, compared to just 39% of 18 to 24-year-olds and 45% of those aged between 25 and 49.

Prof. Robert Tombs, Professor Emeritus of French history at the University of Cambridge, said increasingly prominent criticism of slavery and the British Empire has also contributed to the decline in pride in our history.

“I expect that not only the passing of the generation who lived through the war, but also of those who knew people who lived through the war is significant,” Prof Tombs said.

“But the generally negative portrayal of British history in the media, fiction, TV, films and schools must surely have had an effect. This is true across the Anglophone world.”

To be honest fuck the lot of them. Ignorant bastards. The country I was born and grew up in has been deliberately trashed and wilfully destroyed.

I’m out of there and trying (and failing) not to care.

Well done the Tories (and LibDems when Clegg was there).

The majority of those people in this country who have no pride in our history are either those who have gone through the state education system in the last twenty years and have been subjected to state mandated anti British propoganda or those who have not been born here or are from families that have refused to integrate.

Anybody with a modicum of knowledge of British history over the last 1500 years could not fail to be extraordinarily impressed with what the people of these few islands have achieved in that time.

The British people are singularly unique in the sheer extent of their achievements and most particularly in the way we modernised the world. There is not another country on this planet that even came within sniffing distance of what Britain and its people have accomplished. To their complete and utter shame our treasonous establishment now seeks to rubbish entirely the nation which brought so much good to the world. For me this is unpardonable.

English first, British second and proud to admit as much.

Rule Britannia.

UK Column did a good episode on Monday talking about this and warning how we could end up in another Khmer Rouge. We are not there yet but the language used to justify the killings were eerily similar.

Yes saw that Ben Rubin put it very well and yes it was scarily familiar with some of the language used today.

Hear hear. Yes, it absolutely starts with the schools, and just look at the state of students leaving university, fully indoctrinated into the woke cult and ready to take on the world. Meanwhile, you know how the government reassured the public that violent criminals or sex offenders would not be released early from prison? Looks like there’s a loophole so they’re possibly going to be hitting the streets now; ”Serious sex offenders and other violent criminals are set to be released under Labour’s prisoner early release scheme despite earlier government assurances that such serious criminals would be excluded from the policy. Known as the “SDS40” scheme, it is due to commence next week as part of Lord Chancellor Shabana Mahmood’s proposals to crack down on prison overcrowding. Channel 4 News reports tonight of Probation Service whistleblowers detailing cases of a “loophole” that means prisoners with violent or sex offences, who are serving consecutive sentences where the end date takes into account a sentence for a less serious offence, could be released early. This means they will qualify under SDS40 to be released sooner than had been set at the point of conviction, reducing the time available to plan for them… Read more »

Yet President Zelensky quotes Churchill in his address to MPs in Westminster. Press reports frame the flights of Russian military aircraft rather like the Battle of Britain. Britain’s history is still useful when required.

And that’s not to mention the insertion of the Suffragettes into every possible television drama. On top of that there are the politicians and generals who want to assert that we live in a pre-war world. This assertion depends for any credence on people understanding something about Britain’s history in the Second World War, even if it at the level of myth.

If anyone has known people who lived through the Second World War, or especially the Great War, they will know how these people detest the idea of war.

For a fist full of roubles

I blame it all on the EU.

This is why women in sport must resist what is happening with men allowed to compete against them. Once you allow this you are capitulating to the wokery and giving legitimacy to it.

Sadly all gone. The British army is struggling to recruit people even from the poor areas of the country that are poorer than ever and where joining the armed forces was seen as a way out. They destroyed it and dismantled it bit by bit and they put on a good show to keep us distracted. Very hard for a people to maintain their health and reason for living once they lose this sense of belonging. You see it in broken conquered people all over the world. Despair, alcoholism, nihilism, self destruction. That is all that is left now.

Meanwhile, over at Guido’s blog they are pointing out that not only will Rachel Reeves be the first female Chancellor she will be the first female Chancellor to call in the IMF. As I predicted when Fishy was in charge 😀 our governments are hell bent on bankrupting the country in order that we can be sold off to the banks and the likes of Blackrock. This will of course precipitate uprisings which will necessarily be dealt with by excruciating lockdowns and the tyrannical abuse of power.

No wonder national pride is disappearing.

The internment camps won’t just involve rather long stays and crocodile clips being attached to your gonads. Bear in mind just how lucrative the organ harvesting trade is. You’re talking £5 million for an intact kiddy cadaver and not much less for a young healthy adult. Profit margins like that are very difficult to resist. Perhaps peeople don’t like to think about the organ harvesting business because they find it unpleasant but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t so.

You won’t fight them. I imagine you will be pulled from your duvet all upset and asking ‘what have I done?’. If you are at that point then you destroyed yourself long ago and they are just mopping up your corpse.

Don’t go totally to the toilet. Try to look at yourself in the mirror and see the excrement all over your face. You’ve just had it for so long that you can’t see it.

I hear people say that these attitudes come and go and that there was similar feelings in Victorian times. Maybe so but what is happening now is largely driven by the importing of sectarian clutter on a massive scale, and bringing people here who allegedly want to flee some hell hole for a better life in a civilised country, only to want to turn this country into the hell hole they left once they get here.

Well no actually it’s got more to do with the complete leftard takeover of education, museums, the national Trust, all major institutions of any type have been teaching the younger generations now for at least 3 decades that Britain is a vile racist classist cesspit and they should be ashamed.

A convenient jump off point is the bliar election in 97 although it had probably already begun earlier.

Mass immigration of people many of whom apparently hate us is unwelcome, deeply destructive but not the root cause of this issue.

Yes but if there was no mass immigration and no multi-cultural clutter there would be no need for the self loathing wokery. There would be no diversity to pander to.

Its hardly suprising pride in britain is falling, given the brainwashing done in schools, ugov polls arn’t worth even reporting as the way they are put forward is to support the answer they hope for, and given how the indigenous population is being overtaken by immigrants who have no loyalty to the country or its culture, and a PM who only cares about anyone but the british, well there is your answer.

If there is war, we get serious and our values become realistic. When peace reigns for long enough we lose that sense of proportion. To be subject to that trend is to conform to probability, but how do you do what you probably will not ?

Yes, as someone said,

“Hard Times make Strong Men,

Strong Men make Good Times,

Good Times make Weak Men,

Weak Men make Hard Times.”
