Ed Miliband Prepares to Resume Wind Farm Rollout Across the English Countryside
Ten years after the rural backlash that forced David Cameron to ban onshore wind developments, Ed Miliband is planning to resume the rollout of wind farms across the English countryside. The Telegraph has the story.
If, as expected, Labour wins the election and he becomes Energy Secretary, one of [Miliband’s] first acts will be to rewrite the planning rules that have blocked wind farm developments in England.
“Our mission involves doubling onshore wind, trebling solar, quadrupling offshore wind and backing hydrogen CCS [carbon capture and storage], nuclear and other clean energy technologies,” he told a recent conference of wind farm developers.
“We need all of these technologies…That’s why we would get started in our first weeks in office by overturning the Conservative onshore wind ban in England.”
In a campaign marked by criticism that Labour has failed to be clear on its plans, Miliband’s directness could be seen as refreshing.
But for many of those living in countryside areas protected by Mr. Cameron’s onshore wind ban, Miliband’s pledge will sound more like a threat.
Sir Keir Starmer offered a taste of what is to come in last year’s Labour party conference speech. He called Britain’s planning system “one barrier so big, so imposing that it blocks out all light from the other side” and promised to “bulldoze through it”.
Planning rules are to be rewritten to promote development and growth in general – and onshore wind in particular.
Wind turbines are about to start marching across some of our most hallowed landscapes – along with electricity pylons, solar farms, battery farms and a host of other low carbon energy developments.
Some argue that it is about time. A recent Friends of the Earth analysis suggested that lifting the planning barriers to onshore wind and solar would prompt a 13-fold increase in generation from those sources. It identified 219,800 hectares of land suitable for onshore wind, arguing that this was tiny compared with the U.K.’s overall size.

How can you claim green credentials and also totally destroy the countryside?
It might actually make some sense if these things were any good and delivered what they claim.
Its got nothing to do with green credentials and everything to do with making money. Grifters gotta grift!
“bulldoze through it”
that’s exactly what you’ll be doing to vast areas of Britain’s most beautiful landscapes including woodlands, and that’s fine with you is it Ed?
Yes be concerned about beautiful landscapes, but it is also your beautiful freedom and prosperity that they really want to destroy. The landscape is just an unfortunate casualty.
Yes , I completely understand that, but just the physical effect on the flora and fauna makes beaker a totalitarian hypocrite, and he hasn’t even started yet!
Yep, well as someone once pointed out “The people get the governments they deserve”——-The effect on flora and fauna is well exemplified in Germany, the country with the most wind turbines in Europe where the Red Kite has been virtually wiped out. Germany is where in Europe the Red Kite mostly lives and breeds. ———–Green ideology is an attack on people and wildlife.
True, did you see how many trees are being cut down to make way for a German wind farm? Hansel and Gretel’s cottage is to be bulldozed too!
Let’s save the planet…by..destroying it!
Not to mention the recycling of the damn things.
Landfill, they cannot be recycled.
Assuming this article is correct then taxation has to rise in order to pay for all the subsidies that the wind farm companies will demand because in a properly open market wind farms cannot succeed.
Correct. ——–No one would ever build a turbine using their own money unless they are given 100% subsidy and guaranteed returns because they are totally uneconomical.
Here you go beaker!
(Ed Miliband)
And this isn’t an isolated incident of the damaged caused by man’s multifaceted excuses for these monstrosities

Miliband can hardly believe his luck. It is like he has just won the lottery. He must be thinking he is actually in the middle of a dream and that he will soon be waking up and the Tories will still have an 80 seat majority. —-But he isn’t dreaming. It is the rest of us that are, and boy what a nightmare it is. The Eco Socialists are going to be waking on the 5th of July to have control over every aspect of our lives in their hands, and despite the fact that Germany with the most wind turbines in Europe are destroying their economy and Industrial base with this absurd renewables lunacy and having got rid of Nuclear energy because of irrational fear after Fukushima, the UK is about to do exactly the same. It is no coincidence that the countries with the most wind turbines have the highest electricity prices, yet the bare faced Green Liars have the audacity to keep telling us “Renewables are now cheaper than Fossil Fuels”. The American Indians used to call this speaking with forked tongue, but bare faced liar will do nicely. —-You have been warned. This Labour government will… Read more »
From what I remember last year the Tories were planning to make Smart Metres compulsory, something denied by the ex Tory who joined Reform whose name has escaped me.
Yes it is true they are all in on the scam, it’s just that Labour will pretend to save the planet harder and faster than the Tories.—–And it is Labour that we now need to be concerned about since they are about to become virtual dictators with a massive majority.
Yes it’s the plan. I have resisted so far, but last week my energy supplier emailed to say my electricity meter required a calibration and safety inspection. I’m fully expecting another email in a couple of weeks to say a new meter is required and, natch, it must be a SMART one.
Another point beaker
Fossil fuel supplies enough energy to self replicate., coal and oil can be used to build another coal power plant.
A wind turbine will never produce enough energy to build another wind turbine!
Wind turbines, solar panels, wave motion and all other green machines do not!
That means green machines can never be built, transported, placed, maintained and recycled under their own power, they will always require the use of vast amounts of Fossil fuels!
Wind Turbines, Solar Panels, Tidal etc are only any good if the energy from them can be stored. That technology is not available currently and there really are no indications that it ever will be and at a cost that makes any kind of economic sense. They are part time energy always requiring back up from full time energy like Coal Gas or Nuclear. Yet our Politicians waved Net Zero through parliament in 2019 anyway and it is now enshrined in law with no regard to cost or if any of the required technologies could ever be invented, and they want it all done by 2050. Who in their right mind does anything so absurd as this?
A fake democracy does!
I think we all know how Keir Starmer is going to finance the inevitable shortfall in energy when you try to rely on 100% “renewables”. We can all have a good guess as where the funds will come from to store the output from wind turbines and solar cells, i.e. the “rainy-day” fund.
I, for one, am certain where this will come from… “Sure as death and _ _ _ _ _!”
I currently can’t come from anywhere, as the technology does not exist. But you need to understand the goal of getting rid of fossil fuels and replacing them with part time wind. The goal is to be rid of fossil fuels because at UN level it has been decided that the western world has used up more than our fair share of those fuels in becoming prosperous, and as the Head of National Grid (Steve Holiday) pointed out some years ago “We are going to have to get used to using electricity as and when it is available” —-In other words when the wind is blowing. The smart meter will play it’s role in limiting energy use by what is called “dynamic pricing” —-Energy is to be rationed, because it is the driver of Industrial Capitalism. —-ie Eco Socialism
The lunatics really have taken over the asylum. Not only does more onshore and offshore wind and solar monstrosities mean more imports of vital oil and gas from countries still willing to produce it (in fact increasing CO2 output on average), it will also lead to increasing food imports, because an increasing population, and less room for new agricultural land conversions = less domestic food production… Again increasing human CO2 output (not that this is much of an issue for the atmosphere or the weather or ecology, but if less carbon = “cleaner” in the mind of Ed Milliband, then why support an overall rise in carbon output?)
All this must be endured to let the people’s anger build.
Here in Powys Mid Wales I see Lib-Dem posters everywhere. Not sure what their Green policies are but they’re big into Agenda 2030 from what I’ve heard from them over the years. All a bunch of captured Globalists.
They would come in handy when we get around to lynching the traitorous bar stewards.
Millipede is insane. We will have to fight against every single site. It cannot be allowed, green communism has no place here.
No he isn’t. He’s looking after his self-interest. Alok Sharma has just bagged a highly lucrative position with the Rockefeller Foundation …. a reward for his Net Zero lunacy and blowing up our coal-fired power stations.
Miliband thinks he too will personally clean up if he delivers the Agenda.
How do all these truly creepy, odious characters like Millipede keep being appointed to high office? Who would ever vote for him? Has he got £millions to buy his way in like Sunak the Smarmy?
As I understand it a 5 mega-watt wind turbine requires about 3000 litres of lubricant per annum. If they cover the UK with wind turbines that is a lot of lubricant, where is it all going to come from?
Meanwhile, in Germany, wind turbines have proved a major hazard for Red Kites, but there you are, we must not let the environment get in the way of saving the environment! In the oceans, whales have been disturbed by offshore wind turbines but they have all got to do their bit and save the world from?????????????????? remind what is all this *?*? about?
Don’t forget all the lubricant needed for the machinery to create the turbines in the first place, and to continually replace them when they outlive their very short shelf life. All fossil-fuel based. In Germany, also, millions of bats have been chopped into little pieces by wind turbines, as per a study that found those millions of bat carcasses on the ground in the near vicinity of German wind farms. To say that the eradication of fossil fuels is not practical just doesn’t quite cut it.
Tool up people.
My sister – a raving LibDem who is all in favour of Nut Zero – furiously objects to wind and solar sites in her special part of Hampshire (near “Downton Abbey”) in the north Wessex Downs area: the ultimate NIMBY.
She also is at pains to explain why HER house isn’t suitable for a heat pump so she can’t have one.
I’m so looking forward to her coming up against the cold, hard, reality of what she claims to support.
